Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
It was COLD today and very rainy, so I hardly went out except to run electrolysis on the other radiator bracket. A slow process but at least it's cheap and pretty effective.

I replaced the alternator and the little fuses near the headlights and now the amp gage works!
Last weekend, I sectioned my bench seat foam and re-topped it with high density 3" foam and trimmed/sanded it to look as it should. Way firmer and not sitting in the crater. My arse is thankful. Tom |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Picked up the RH/LH upper tailgate moldings and they're mint. Wasn't cheap, $170 with shipping. I "kinda" only needed the RH, but the LH I already had isn't quite perfect.
As appearances go (exterior, interior, under the hood), all that's left is to figure out the rear window frame, and the paint separator molding under the cab. Of five pieces, two pass. Hopefully not looking at repro. for those, because all else will be mint OEM. That said, I've picked up a few items that are repro, like small rubber bumpers, battery tray (well worth it), wire gutters, bolts etc......The wiring, mounts, and seat cover will be repro. for certain. Expensive hobby. I've even delayed my retirement by 6 months (out 12/2016). Long story, but a 6-month delay puts an additional 15K in my pocket. This project may reach 25K. Incidentally, excellent engine and interior up above. Nice work. |

Today I finally put my new tires and wheels on. 325/65/18 Firestone Destination A/T's, Helo He886 18" wheels. Wasn't sure about going with the 18's but I got the tires for an awesome deal from My brother so I decided to go for it. Still not sure if it was the way to go but it'll do for now. 72 Cheyenne Super 4" Rancho lift.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I got the fan shroud cleaned up (well a little anyway). I couldn't do electrolysis on it and keep the original sticker and I couldn't reach it all with the wire brush. I did what I could and found this neat little guy, all covered up by the 2nd rate 1990 paint and bondo job.
http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...psz8yuaxlw.jpg http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4nunacnp.jpg I taped off the sticker and gave the shroud (it's not really a "shroud" but I call it that) and 1 radiator bracket a coat of NAPA Rust Treatment. http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...pszu5vs66j.jpg |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
2nd day of installing new wiring harness from American autowire, I was crimping the terminals that goes on the connector thats plugs into the dash. Well I crimped then wrong. I striped the wire & sled the wire to far in. the cooper is under the bow part of the terminal. The bow on the terminal is design to relax when connecting to the dash. Went to NAPA, no old style terminals in their book. Have to wait til Tuesday (Monday a holiday) & call Autowire. Day three today Engine bay.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Finished installing a new starter. The wife pulled her 67 out and the. Then it would not start. Just a solid click. Few whacks with a hammer and it started. So we went and got a new starter and its bolt holes were not as deep as the old one so be to get shorter starter bolts. But it starts good now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Put the seatbelts back in, only to remove those as I just had to soak the bolts in Evaporust. I also degreased the attachment tabs.
Zip tied the cushion around the fuel shutoff valve. Put the new floor mat in. It fits nearly perfect and I think it'll be fine. It came from Classic Parts. Holding off on the seat until the mat can "take a set" to the floor contours. Primed the fan cover and 1 radiator bracket. Hit the other bracket with Rust Treatment (NAPA). Also cleaned out the garage a bit.....getting more room for the next steps. http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ug0bano.jpg http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...pszws3wzfx.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
That floor mat looks *perfect* ~ the seat bolt holes don't appear to line up correctly tho' .
What's the Vendor again ? maybe a link ? I'd like to buy that exact mat for my '60 C/10 low hump cab . I hope they have the longer version that goes back under the seat as that'll quiet it down much more . Don , I'm shocked and amazed ~ after all the hard work you put in , Ol Dollar is gone ! . |

My original mat looked exactly like this one, with the "tails" on either side. The only other version Classic Parts had was without the tails, so it covered even less. I was going to put down some floor insulation but I have that gaping rust hole under the fuel tank---I didn't think any insulation would be a benefit until I can get that fixed. Let me try and find you a link. Remember to look for low or high hump. http://www.classicparts.com/1967-72-.../#.VWFRp09Viko |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
New to the boards. Picked up a '71 C10 on Wednesday. She's a work in progress. Little rust, little more rust preventer, more than a little house paint in the interior. White with blue. Today, she got new shoes. Not sure how old the ones she was wearing were, but they were awfully cracked.
Oh, the specs. LWB, leafs and disks, 350, TH350. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
All I have done today is clean up the seat belt bolts with Evaporust and the wire wheel. I now have a coat of NAPA Rust Treatment on those. I also painted a couple more coats of Gloss Black onto 1 radiator bracket and the fan cover.
I found the other original rear cab bolt and cleaned it up also.......I have no use for it but I want to keep all of the truck's original hardware. |
