Yes, and thank you LowElco! I was quite happy to get past that point. Projects that take a long time, after a while, tend to wear me down, and I catch myself wanting to take shortcuts.
That whole face was a prime example.

Well Done Sir...
Time for me to research Metal Massaging...:uhmk: The boy is going to need help with his Miata fenders and I need to get after a couple of spots on the bed that will require a hammer and dolly...

Glad you like it Don !! You pump me up man !!
I took a few YouTube classes on the subject. I think it was when Alan was doing his cab corners (well...some major body part anyways) when he mentioned it needing some more "massaging" and I asked about the reference.
I have found that the basic 7pc hammer and dolly set is "nice" but in actuality you need more and different dollys. I have even gone so far as to using another hammer as a dolly or/and as an extention.
One thing to keep in mind, it is not muscle man work!!
Tap tap tap....check it....tap tap tap....check it.... that sort of thing LoL

Making and sharing the videos is more fun than posting pics I think....
Some day I may even do a talkie !! :metal:

Awesome head light mad. I really liked the lights behind the "CHEVROLET" letting on grill. That is wild.

Love the video. Thanks for sharing. Being one of those guys that prides himself in recognizing vehicles at least older ones by their headlights at night. You are going to have some people stumped. LOL.

Know exactly what you mean regarding both front and rear light recognition.

Good to see you posting again, I think many of us have missed you around here during the Holidays!
Hope your were exceptionally good.
Your truck model turned out pretty cool too... I wish I could take the time to do some stuff like that again, but right now I cannot.

Well then I am going to be confusing you both coming and going... my tail lights are going to be an odd job too.

****************************************************************************************

I really dig the GMC hood, but in my opinion being a GTO fan, the turn signals detract from the awesome body lines in that hood valence. So I decided to shave mine.
This is my story:

First I started with an infamous pizza box template (hooray for PIZZA !!) and drew these babys out on a piece of sheet metal.
Attachment 1195630

Some cutting and the first bend...
Attachment 1195631

These are the two fill plate facing each other to show the taper of the well...
Attachment 1195632

And clamped into place...
Attachment 1195633

Then some welding, grinding, and self etching primer later:
Attachment 1195634

Later when you see this married up to the hood, some of those photos will show just what I was talking about as far as the "nose" on this hood.

I dont usually do previews, but....
I have 1968 Coupe DeVille tail lights.
I was orginally going to mount them in the outside edges of the rear fenderwells, until Stoddard made the comment about visibility with that location. Then I was going mount them on the tailgate edges like he did, until a buddy was over one day, looked at them and said "What about on their side, under the tail gate?"

Since then I have not been able to get that idea out of my head.

Here is what they look like as they ride stock on the Caddilac:
Attachment 1196530

Flip the photo 45degrees and you get an idea of the "cats eye" look of them.
And of course nothing would be quiet right about this build if I didnt have some sort of mod ideas to go along with this as well....
Attachment 1196532

So for any more, you are just going to have to wait until I am at that stage to tackle this.
Sorry.

Cool. So one of the white lenses is the backup lights. Is the other a turn signal or just a reflector! Love that Caddy!

Bret

The bottom white lens is back up lights, center is brake and turn signal, and top is just dead space. I have a red lens light I am thinking about mounting in the top section to make it turn signal only so it will light up in conjunction with the center section. I will have to play with it a bit first.

I am too humbled to imagine what to say to that...
I guess, Welcome Aboard, and please take the time to check out some of the other builds, there are guys here with TONS more skills doing things far more imaginative and better engineered than my tinker toy here !!

No doubt.
The wells in those turn signal lanterns have lots of room to work with.

***********************************************************************************

Now for some photos !!!

Next step on my hood was to marry up the valence to the hood.
I had long ago admired the filled seam look that others have done so decided I would try my hand at it too !!
Attachment 1197960

This is my d-side corner. Oddly both hoods, the donor GMC and my stock Chevy hoods had taken damage on this corner and no amount of massaging could get them to align up 100% (I had much better luck on the p-side) So this was as good as it was going to get:
Attachment 1197962

I used a welding rod as filler for the gap:
Attachment 1197964

This is after a lot of welding and grinding, shot with some filler primer and sanded down to ID the high-low/trouble spots.
I am not 100% jazzed with the outcome, but I am happy I got it looking this good at least:
Attachment 1197966

Top shot of that corner:::
Attachment 1197969

More tomorrow...hopefully !!

Ok guys it is tomorrow, and here is more:

All the primary welding is done, and this is how the p-side looked after some filler primer and sanding to ID the trouble spots...
Attachment 1198356

In this photo you can see the "beak" look I was talking about earlier that I like so much about the GMC style hoods.
Attachment 1198358

Here is an edge-on of my fill job...not too shabby I guess eh?
Attachment 1198359

And just one for the glamor of it:
Attachment 1198362

Got a busy weekend with duty, and possibly skiing so it may be a few days before I get the filler and sanding photos up, and also the profile mod I did....

Thanks for looking everyone !!
