Re: Daverods project 66
Feeding the Horses is the easy part. I hated picking up the manure. Especially when it's wet. PU :waah:

Re: Daverods project 66
Why would you pick it up? If you picked it up what would the dogs eat?:mm:

Re: Daverods project 66
$$$$ Just waiting on some cash. Those drop front members don't come cheap. Nate never gave my one for christmas so I guess I'll have to buy one. I'm done putting money in my 64 so now I can start saving for my drop member again. My sled has a habit of soaking up money over the winter. I hope to have my member by early summer.

Re: Daverods project 66

Re: Daverods project 66
I scored a HEI distributor from a nova 250 for my 64 ... What are you planning for timing and plug gap?
The info from the manual for 77 nova 250 spark plug gap says .60--- every other year says .35 or .45.. I'm think I will just go at .45 Check your timing before you pull out the points. let me know how it works for you I need to get a decent carb on mine before I mess with the timing.. |
Re: Daverods project 66
It kicked my butt.:waah: Wont run keeps back firing? Did I say I don't know $hit about engines? Gave up. Working on my rubber matt, felt and door rubber. Going good on that so far.Still pissed I can get my truck running.

Re: Daverods project 66
yeah i think you need to turn the timing 180 out. You could just give me the cab to your 64. Mine is trashed. i tried to put it on the trailor today and the roof cracked all the way around. Looks like the upper metal around the windshield is rotted. It just needs so much work.

Re: Daverods project 66
Make sure it's connected to a full 12v power source & not the original ign coil power source (which will allow it to run, just not very well).
|
Re: Daverods project 66
I hate it when that happens. Or when it gets off a tooth.

Re: Daverods project 66
When I put an HEI in my Chevelle , I found there was a resister wire in the wiring harness which reduced the voltage to the coil/points after start-up (around 9V) (The main 12V came from a set of contacts on the starter during starts) This added lifetime to the points and didnt burn them out so fast.
I have not checked a wiring diagram yet to see if it is the same. If so just cut out the section of resister wire and replace it and remove the feed from the starter. I started my truck today and it was at 0 at idle. Did you get different plug wires? I think Electronic ignition needs heavier duty plug wires due to hotter spark. Did you regap the plugs ? did you change plugs? |
Re: Daverods project 66
I did'nt change the plugs. The voltage is 12 volts out of the fuse box. I think my problem is I'm retarted. I did change the wires they are a different style. When I first started it I had the 12 volt wire hooked right to the batt. It was funny it started backfiring and I did'nt know why I could'nt shut it off. At least I'm learning some stuff and stuff. Well now I know why they said to cut the yellow wire on the starter, thats where it was getting the 12volts from?

Re: Daverods project 66
:lol:I was looking and I saw someone said they had thier time at 8 bdtc. I had it running and used a timing light to time it at 0. The vac thing was hitting the engine so I couldn't retard any more. I never thought about retarding it more because before I was running it at about 4 adtc. I took the valve cover off to make sure the dist was in right and not 180 out. I'm pretty sure I just need to turn my dist so that it will turn or retard more and move all my plug wires one way or another. I'm pretty sure I'm getting closer to getting it running but I could be wrong. It would be the first time.

Re: Daverods project 66
I'm still not sure about tdc. It has to be on the comp stroke? Does this mean when the intake valve opens then shuts your at tdc? That the way I have it set now. The intake just shut and the timing mark is at 0.
