Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Well I was on my way to work on the 66 when the Ranger started to make that noise again. There is a noise it has been making when taking a left turn on the freeway but not all the time. Well this time it really started. It sounded like a wheel bearing. It managed to stop binding and I drove it home about 15 miles.
It seems the last dork that did the brake job forgot to put the seal on the left side. I drove this truck 35,000 miles like this. After I got the wheel off I noticed I needed new brakes. I should have known something was amiss. When I first got the truck it was making a banging sound when ever I went over a bump. I noticed it stopped when I applied the brakes. Well after looking around the same dork that forgot the seal didn't tighten the caliper mount bolts very well. They were making their way out. Lucky for me I was able to get the remainder of the bearing off. So I had to work on that truck instead today. I put new rotors, brakes and wheel bearings only on the left side but I did repack all of the bearings. I spent about $150 in parts. I think I am going up Sunday to work on the 66. I want to get ti started this weekend. |

Finished up my exhaust work. I was running straight 2.5" pipe from the turbo. It sounded a bit ****ty but nice loud turbo whistle. So, I put a magnaflow performance muffler inline and dumped it out flush right in front of the rear tire with 3". I like it, it fills it out and makes you think twice about whats packing under the hood!

Hey I finally did something on the truck too. Got the holes drilled for the spotlight, and mounted it for the test fit, before painting.

Driving your truck for the first time.....................well words can hardly describe it, sorta like your first kiss, nervous as hell something will go wrong and then you wonder how far you can go, without a mess up! ;)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
With the ongoing rain a squeek developed in the wiper linkage. Removed the cowl vent and greased all the bushings. Now it's nice and quiet again and should last another 50 years before needing additional attention!

Is there supposed to be a 1" gap between the channels????? Too many burn outs it guess. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I had bad throttle plates on my 2 barrel (stuck open a little), i took off the intake and carb today to replace with a 4 barrel set up since the two barrel was toast. Anyway, i got to the back of the motor and final got the casting number. I was told it was a 305 when i bought it, turns out its a 350! Score! It was a nice surprise for the day. the casting number is 3970014 and the date code is E374,I think the seven may actually be a ONE, as there are not 37 days in the month.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
worked on a tune up of the 63... the distributor has had ductape on it since I got it... it ran ok and I had other things going...I looked into it today, and the tape was holding the cap on:lol:one screw missing, and on the other side a wood screw-haha, you gotta love farm trucks!
so the rotor was tearing the sh*t out of the cap since itwas just loose on there! new cap rotor, and wires made it run tons better, tomorrow I chase that pesky acellerator pump, and time it, and it might run like new! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Replaced the ignition switch and the starter solenoid trying to sort out my starting problems only to discover the wire plug next to the heater box was unplugged the whole time! :banghead:
I thought about taking both parts back but I didn't feel like uninstalling them plus they were cheap and they'll probably last another 43 years anyway. |
