Shorty's are the style I'm after. "Flashed" gave me the long tubes just to try. Quote:

I could modify the perches myself so they won't hit. Just trying to figure out the best and easiest way to get it done. Mac, those were some good links. Here's a LINK to some good reading about coolants. |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
if you cant get the headers you want and you find some that the stock perch would let fit let me know.
|
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Alan do you think the problem your having is a result of moving the engine forward...........Buy moving it forward the frame narrows.....And on the perches, that style Sticks up to much at top where header tube needs to be......Just a thought.
I'm going to try these........... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1963-...item56379a98d8 |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
that set up looks good. I wonder if it mounts on top or bottom of the upper frame rail. I like that one better then the CPP.
Alan have you tried the driver side? JW |

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Have you looked at Early Classics mid length headers? I know you are having a time with this issue.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Alan,
I looked at Jeg's for the Hedman Headers listed above and it shows a different picture than what you posted. Here's a link to them. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tial&Ntt=69539 Hopefully Jeff can give some insight today about which ones work best with their motor mounts. Good luck. |

Thanks guys for the help. Sorry, I've spent so much time and pages on just headers. Maybe it will help someone in the future.
I got this info from CPPJeff today. Quote:

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Nice Headers but a little pricey.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Ouch yeah for a pair of full lengths maybe..
Hey Alan have you checked into the weld up kits they have out? I know its a pain but least you can make them clear everything you need them too. Just a thought :chevy: |

Even at that price I would want a guarantee that they will fit.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Heres a link to a header builder. They will send you a fixture to mock up what you need. Then you send it back and they make the headers. It may be expensive, but sometimes you may not be able to buy pre-made ones. I have been following your build thread since you started it. You have inspired many, including me and my 66 Chevy. Your fab work is exellent. Fabbing work is not easy.

Great news. I sold my headers (flowtechs) for what I paid for them. :metal: |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
That company is very impressive. I watched the video, and went to see the price. It almost knocked me off my chair. Looks like it might be a over kill for you. There must be a better way.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
just found your build thread searching google for '60 impala dash. nice build!!!
i had a header issue with stainless headers on my '66 327ci in my '69 K10. step one: buy a pair of plain steel headers in the style you want (looks like you prefer long tube) step two: take a picture of the clearance issue(s) step three: bring the headers to your local welding shop step four: pick up your headers and have them coated locally i had three tubes modified... two curves added, a tube lengthened. i did the finish grinding and pollishing. came out perfect |

Got the bed mocked up waiting for the fuel tank to show up so I can get the side fill figured out. I've still got alot of work to get it ready for paint. I was tinkering with it a little at a time at work when I was slow. Been busy for the past month at work. Thanks Shannon for helping me get the header panel in the bed.:metal: http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC02102.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC02103.jpg |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
That's a good idea. I wonder how it would work out doing it to a step side. I really don't like the idea of putting the gas fill in the bed. Stay tuned. My work load might ease up, and I'll start working on the truck again.

Here's another attempt at doing the line from the pump to the carb. I made some mistakes, but got it done. I might redo it to clean it up a little. Split the new pump apart to rotate the outlet. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02106.jpg Fittings installed. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02109.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02114.jpg I used a coat hanger for a template. I don't know how to accurately figure the radius of the bend. I made a bend in scrap and cut it off to help figure the bend. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02116.jpg Here is the bend lined up with the coathanger. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02117.jpg Done. I just hand bent the line off the carb to clear the heater hose outlet. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02119.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC02120.jpg |

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Alan,
is that stainless line? did you flare you own ends? i attempted this as well but could not find the proper connections, so i still have rubber to connect the line to the fittings. can you share the sizes, parts #, and vendor when you have some free time. It looks 100% better the way you ran it. keep up the great work. |

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
It took me all day to bend my fuel line from the pump to carb. I think i will redo it before i put the new motor in, i want to have a fuel psi guage near the carb. Great progress Alan.

Here is a pic of the flare tool. It worked like a dream on stainless. No marks or slippage. No wrenches required. They run around $100. The 45* PN is 458R and the 37* PN is 377 Here is a link to Rigid.com. Thanks Shannon for the info. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/IMG_0813.jpg Here is the other tubing nuts and sleeves. Re: Project Vitamin C-10
no progress here, Engine guy fell thur saturday! He is suppose to deliver it this week to work. SO, if he brings it i will post some pics. If not, i will just by the new carb and pickup the air compressor from Lowes i have been eyeing. Its one of those husy uprights. 12 cfm dual pumps should be able to paint a little with it.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Yesterday the wife called and said I had a big box that came Fed-ex. Of coarse the excitement set in. Until I got home and discovered I got 67-72 wheel tubs. I knew this was gonna be a problem. I tried to head it off at the pass.
Here is the page at the truckandcarshop.com. Look at PN 60-09309 60-66 rear inner wheel housing Fleetside Lt/Rt $78. Now move your mouse over it and it says 67-72. If you add it to the shopping cart the price changes to $63 and says 67-72. I called to question this and the lady said it will go thru just fine. Placed the order and had a special note with the order form telling them to call me to verify PN's. They didn't do that and here they are. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC02125.jpg They are sending out the correct ones and picking these up. I did tell the guy there what's going on with the website. Got the other shipment today. Here are some pics, http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC02130.jpg Brake lines, trans cooler lines, a few things for the 55. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC02132.jpg This looks like the correct boot on the firewall behind the booster. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC02133.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC02135.jpg The e brake equalizer has the GM PN along with the boot above. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC02134.jpg Now it's time to go to work. :metal: |
