I got my exhaust system about 95% done. I need to weld a brace to support the hanger and a couple of down spouts and it will be done. I will install the tail pipes later. I need to take the truck to the muffler shop for that. Too many bends.
|
Re: 1968
George you could save yourself some money at the muffler shop and do what most guys do, dump the pipes right before the rear axle and call it good.

Re: 1968
Today I finished sand blasting my rally style wheels and painted then satin black. Tomorrow I go looking for four tires I can use on the wheels. I also received the oil pressure line today. I will install it tomorrow and then I can start my engine, keep your fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong. It is getting real close to a driver guys.

|
Re: 1968
got tied up this week in moving someone. Monday I will crank the truck.
|
Re: 1968
265 R75x15's are pretty tall (30.7) George. Is that what size you had before?
|
Re: 1968
George,
Are you gonna pull the distributor and prime the oil system before you start it? I cant recall if its freshly rebuilt or not but its been about 2-3 years since its been run so it wouldn't hurt if even if its not rebuilt. If it is a fresh break in be sure to run it at about 2000 rpm for 20 minutes to break in the cam. got to keep that oil splashing on the cam during break in. |
Re: 1968
George if you need a priming shaft I have one you can use.
|
Re: 1968
Anticipation....the suspense is killing us.

IT"S A RUNNER!!!!!!!!!!
I finally got the ole girl running. I had to but another HEI distributor from a local supplier. The MSD distributor was no good that I bought from a fellow board member 1 1/2 years ago. Guys check out the parts you buy and not just put them up somewhere. I also bought a set of four cragar 8" black wheels and center caps with new lug nuts |
Re: 1968
here is the video of the truck running. I still have to put my rails back on the truck to separate the wires a little. To make it look clean. I will mount the tires on the rims Friday. Will post how they look on Friday. I can't up load the video something about a security token and ideas

Re: 1968
Probably just needed to replace the module in the distributor, they are cheap and easy to get. You could have put in a GM one even

Can't wait to see pics of your truck with the new wheels.

Re: 1968
Well. UPS struck again. They can't find my other two wheels. So I contacted summit and they are shipping me two more wheel, they should be here Tuesday. So Wednesday I will marry the wheels to the tires and mount them on the truck. Every time I crank the truck it sounds better. can't wait until I can drive the ole girl. I have a exhaust leak on the manifold on the pass side. so I will tighten it up before Wednesday. Got to adjust the rear brakes and bleed the system. and then I will take it to the front end shop for allingment. Almost ready to drive,

Re: 1968
Today I added anti freeze to the radiator and adjusted the rear brakes. I started to bleed the brakes but come upon a slight problem. The proportioning valve was a used one I pick up some where and it didn't work. so I bought a complete master and booster with proportioning valve with brackets and lines. a complete set up I just didn't want any problems with the brakes. it should be in in a few days. I don't like the way the torque converter sounded so I ordered a new one also. A minor set back but this way I know it will be right. So tomorrow I will pull the brake set up off the truck and start to pull the transmission back, I will not take the transmission all the way out of the truck. I did this before with the flex plate, I should have installed new torque converter then. But money was tight, so now I am paying for it in labor.
Still waiting for my other two wheels to come in. they should be here tomorrow I hope. |
