Re: My 56 build
Thinking about doing that when I get there. Started at rear bumper and working forward finishing everything as I go ready for paint kinda finish. My hood is a gmc so it has that hole for the emblem. By the time I get there my skills should be up to the task. How much did you cut out, just curious.

Re: My 56 build
I started with 1” but after reshaping the front to realign I was probably at 1 3/8”. I used 1” masking tape to lay it out.

it looks cool 'pancaked', but that is a lot of work, for a very subtle difference another great metal fabricator on this site..... |

nice pancake job, great work

Re: My 56 build
looks cool for sure. lots of work, for sure. BUT, if you're a little short in the undercarriage, like me, then a pancaked hood is an asset. lol.
not sure if I will do mine or not. it has that big hole in the front for the emblem. ah, whatever. it's a challenge for my sheet metal skills. you can always get another hood if you don't like it. sell the pancaked one. break even, gain experience. |
Re: My 56 build
That pancake would be better with Butter and Aunt Jemima Syrup on it!!! Sorry couldn't help it!!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. As far as my fab skills I’ve just been willing to try anything! I worked as a mechanic for 2 years full time before going to college to get my degree. That was 15 years ago. I’m a pharmacist... go figure hey! I always wanted to play with cars and learned how from a lot of great mechanics. As far as body work... I’ve painted about 10 cars. Never had a welder to do any sheet metal work. So the metal fab is a new experience that I really enjoy!
Spent some time today working on the hood bracing and the rust repair. The first picture is the cross bracing with the pieces of the front brace being mocked up. Second is the front brace completed and painted with por-15. Brace took longer than I thought it would! Nearly everything I do on the truck does:lol: |
