The group of non-driving trucks is growing.. I might have over looked it, but what is your plan/goal with the truck.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

originally the plan was weld up the holes in the firewall, rockers, floors, corners, vintage air install, clean and paint frame in front and rear of cab, paint under the hood, re-seal and paint the engine, 700R4 install, paint inside the cab and jambs, all new rubber.....
now thinking pull the cab too, paint or powdercoat the entire frame, new wiring, plumbing, rear gas tank, basically everything but the body and paint on the outside. We want to have it back together to cruise it next summer and work on the body and paint the following winter. might be a bit much to get done by then, we shall see:ito:

That sounds possible, as long as you have the time necessary to accomplish it. As it sits now you have a fair amount of work ahead of you....but we're all here to encourage you. Oh, and don't forget to post lots of pics along the way..... I couldn't resist that......

That's all your gonna try to accomplish in the next 6 months? I, personally, think you should set a much loftier goal than that!

J/K Joe! Sounds like a good plan. You've got lots of work ahead for Sco...uhhh...I meant to say, lots of work ahead for yourself.

I wish I could get that motivated, and stay that way, on mine. Good luck and keep us updated.

Oh yeah, I'm off work next week and I'll check out those belts and holler at ya.

Man, their is too many pics and not enough explanation...what gives ?!

Seriously, your truck looks to be in great shape !!

kizer 12-10-2008 03:07 PM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

6months to do all that? Heck I've had mine roughly 3months and I've only taken the bed off and painted the rear frame. Imagine how far I'd be if I ran your schedule. ;)

I'll be watching this thread some more.

scotts62 12-10-2008 03:29 PM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Knowing Joe he will probably have all floors, rockers, dash fixed and painted shortly after christmas

Looks good man! Ya ill agree it is in good shape :metal:. mine wasn't so lucky from its former owned life.

I have 2 furniture dollies that i used on mine that you can use if you decide to pull the cab. Makes it easier to roll around. (remember the toe masher?)

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

John your killing me:lol:

Kizer....might be a bit ambitious, but deadlines are made to be broken, right? ;)

Scott, hope so! can we paint in the cold? you have heat out there?
and oh yes i....er my pinky toe remembers those vividly. :(

Et tu Chris

what are yous guys opinion on rocker and floor replacement.....cab on or off the frame?

Alan's Classic 12-11-2008 12:40 AM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

IMHO if you go deeper than the rockers the cab needs to come off. If you don't you will. It really depends on how nice you will finish it out on the bottom of the floor. Nearly impossible with the cab on the frame.

joe231 12-11-2008 12:48 AM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Thanks Alan!
i can be a bit of a perfectionist.........i want it finished from all possible sides
i was worried about tweaking things with the cab off, but figured it would be easier to get to with it off.

which just reminded me of someone on here who was supposed to be coming up with a cab tilter design for these trucks......guess I will go bug him
