Re: 65Custom Build Thread

I ran out to the tag office to get my title in my name today.

What an ordeal that was. In Ga you don't need a title if it is before 1986 and they will not even issue you a title if it is a 1962 or older (does not make sense ) even if you have a title.
I bought the truck from out of state that may have been why I had to have the vin verified, so you have a police officer come out and verify your vin (no change for this service) once it has been verified good, not stolen etc you make another trip to the tag office and then fork over some cash for title & ad valorem tax so I don't know if it was a good idea to go through this mess now since I'll have to pay taxes on it from now on but it is not much, at least now I know that it is not stolen  so I can continue with my build with the knowledge it is clean.

I did the same by having my VIN's checked on the 55 and 65. I haven't put them in my name yet. ;)

Finally got off my but today and did something. This is one of the custom mods that I have been planning for some time now and finally got the light in last week, my other way i was going to do the light was too much work but would have very cool the biggest problem was finding a light thin enough to fit so i had to find another light and this one seems to work pretty well.

1. measuring it out to make sure I have as close to center as possible.

Attachment 639873

2. Making a mess I should have used my 3" grinder but I have small air compressor and it does not keep up well with a air hog.

Attachment 639874

3. Clamped it up to get the bend i needed since this a concave curve it needed a little finesseing to get it to go up.

Attachment 639875

4. A little preflight testing to see what it was going to look like and make sure that it was going in the right direction.

Attachment 639876

5. Finally got it fitted and started tacking it in place and I ran out of wire, so this if as far as I got

Test fitting and a little motivation for me to see how it is going to look. I hope the finished product looks good. I'm a little afraid the height that it has now due to opening up that curve into a flat area has not made the back look too weird or look like it was an after thought, at least I know it is not an after thought as I have put a lot of thought into this one mod even though it is pretty simple to do I want it to look good when it is finished.

Attachment 639881

Another angle I think it will be alright and as it stands now I'm stuck with it.

It has been awhile since I posted anything for progress on mine but here are a couple of things that I have going.

I finished up the pocket for the third Brake Light I do still need to do a little finish work but the major work is completed

Attachment 709847

Attachment 709848

I like the idea of a dash extension and taking a queue from one I have seen before I made a up template to see what it will look like when finished

Attachment 709849

So I am still around and working on it just not as much as I would like

It is on pause at the moment! I hope to get back on it a little later this year, I am adding a better half to my life if everything goes well this week

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

I will defiantly be waiting to see progress here looking great so far and all the tin replacement pictures are a huge help. I have scraped out a lot of trucks and now wish that I had disassembled a few at the spot welds and kept the useful panels. Seeing pictures of careful deconstruction of the cab parts definitely eases the fear factor of rust repair and panel replacement, I can see my next tool purchase being a sheet metal brake and shrinker/strecher. I have already bought some of those nifty panel clips I seen you were using and put them to replace the inner door sheet metal for the window regulator mount on my 64 GMC that the P.O. had cut out they sure work good big plus now the window goes up and down LOL.

BTW Good luck with the addition of the better half:cong:

Is it gone yet? I would love to have it?

Thanks, I thought some of it was going to be worse that it really was, it has just been a lot of work, I have gotten stalled a bit but hoping that it is going to pick back up sometime this year.

On my recent trip out of the country I saw a few trucks and most of us being truck guy I started trying to take pics of the ones I saw, I missed a few good ones because I didn't have my camera with me at the time and sorry but a few of them are not so great.

But I was surprised at how good a shape many of them were

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Totally inspirational, I even made my wife look at more than a few of your pics!!
I want to do the one piece window with the wing omit too.
About them rattling half way up or down, I think I would install the felt guides that the cars of this era came with. I replaced the driver side glass on my wifes 72 LeMans convertible, and had to adjust these guides so the glass would seat properly with the top up. Their function was obvious.

I love threads like this, I learn so much from reading them!!
PM sent for the cab corners too.
Thanks !!
