Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

I liked how the dash turned out as well...............that is till I had a look at it in some better lighting. Nothing big deal, but found some dirt in a few spots and a couple pin holes I somehow missed as I never did highbuild a second time after numerous repairs...but what can a guy expect without a booth I guess....and being that I am far from a proffessional painter.

I'll scuff it down quick in a few days after letting things cure for a bit, and then just reshoot it. Was hoping to have the cab and front clip in paint by this Sunday, but with this it will be more realistic to say mid week/weekend of NEXT week. No sense of rushing it now....it would drive me crazy..even though others probably wouldn't even see it....hahahaha

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Well to my dismay, after looking at the dash a bit closer there was some small dust particles that just were....well, irritating the hell out of me. So the dash got sanded down, and problem areas repaired, then sprayed AGAIN. Only problem was that my HVLP gun decided to have a temper tantrum, and screw up the second shot at a good looking dash......GRRRRRR! Had runs everywhere. So, you guessed it...........sanded down once again to prep for the final shot at doing a good job of the dash. This thing was NOT going to beat me a 3rd time round. As you can see below the dash turned out near percfect, and this time I added a bit more flattening agent.....which I like alot better. So that being said, the dash is complete to this stage and I can actually start putting some things together for a change. Will be a nice change of pace for a bit. Then the outer shell is going to get some PPG Delfleet as well.

Decided to make my own column shifter delete as trying to find one out of a factory truck is near impossible, and I'll be damned if I'm going to spend a grand on a chrome one. Nothing some epoxy resin, some filler, primer and paint won't take care of.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Some progress in the last week or so....

Got my hinges back from the body shop tonight...all new pins, bushings etc, and blasted ready for primer and paint. Buddy of mine shortened up my ebrake cable and it is also ready to rock. And finally, started installing the second skin sound deadener on the firewall and can start installing the new firewall sound suppression pad I picked up from LMC.

New pins and bushings in all 8 hinges.

SECOND SKIN
sound deadener/matting

Second skin sound deadener start of install. Started off by scuffing down the floor to get rid of any debris, overspray, etc. Then proceeded to blow out the interior of all dust and contaminants. Sizing each sheet, marking it out with chalk where relief cuts were needed, then peeling the back off to install product in place. At this point put some heat to it to make it somewhat more maluable, then press down with a roller wheel tool, and a gloved hand. Believe me, you want a good glove on before attempting to press into place after heat. With proper placement, the product goes together seamlessly at times, but patience and persistance pays off with this stuff. The matting is good and heavy gauge, so some relief cuts and so forth will be needed. At this point you can already hear the difference in the tone of the metal.......I have high hopes for this stuff.

Will post up more pictures as progress ensues.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

That looks a lot like the stuff i used in my crew. I still can't belive how quite it is. My 87 doesnt have any thing other than factory and it sounds like a rattle trap compare to the crew, hell i cant even here the radio in the 87.
When i am finished with the crew i know the first thing that will be done to the 87!

You wanna notice a big difference in metal tone, do the roof! Did my roof with the damplifier and heatwave. I knew it did affect it, but didn't notice the huge difference until I was removing my roof rack recently. The roof just sounds so "dead" now.

Any plans on luxury liner too?

Also, truck is looking good. Really like the second attempt with the dash painting. Looks really good with the flattener in it.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

I looked into the luxury liner etc. and would like to do it at some point I think. I was just trying to minimize the build cost a bit for now. I have enough material here to do the complete interior top to bottom plus a bit more I think. The back of the cab and possibly a few other areas may get a second layer...but not sure if I should just keep the extra for the 4x4 project, and just buy some lux later. Every square inch of the inside will be done.....and I have monofoam inside the roof as well for some added strength that should help with some sound suppression issues as well I would think/hope.

As for the dash, yeah...I am happy with it now. Ordered a new back window today so hope to have the custom painting/stripping/gold leaf done on the dash and glass in within a few weeks if all goes to plan...which we all know THAT won't happen.

...oh, and thanks for the compliments. Appreciate the interest in the build, especially since I follow a few of your builds as well and am as equally impressed with the work done. I can only accredit some of the work to the knowledge brought on by the site itself....or should I say the BLAME?....hahaha

99 percent of the sound dampner in place, just waiting to figure out if it's going to get the NV 4500 swap or not. Waiting to hear on a couple parts trucks.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Should be good to go for paint tomorrow after a good cleaning and wipe down. First some epoxy primer, then Sikkens OTO rockerguard, then the flat black paint, along with some red oxide in spots, and then finally the flat white. Then the firewall and door jams will get a last coat of shiny white.
