I've been a little lax on my truck work and posting lately but here are some updates. This picture is my friends brand new 2015 Duramax and my '82.

After I installed the head unit and door speakers I REALLY wanted to complete the set-up with an amp and sub. The amp is a Hifonics Brutus BRX1200.1D putting 450w RMS into a 4 ohm Pioneer TX-SW3001S4 shallow mount 12" sub. The box is made by RT Enterprises. When I got the sub in the truck, the frame inside the rear seat would contact the surround of the sub so I built the guard bar to protect the sub. This setup really sounds great and I'm very surprised how loud this sub is. There's more info in the video if you're interested

Last weekend I was in Iowa for a wedding and I was able to stop at Classic Parts in Kansas City. They have a pretty cool showroom and I was able to save quite a bit by not shipping these parts.

Sometime soon I'll be welding these new floor pans into the truck and putting in new carpet.

My fender trim is pretty beat up so I picked some up while I was at Classic Parts.

Right on! A little thump in the trunk!
Give us all a heart attack. What was the sticker on that D-max? I couldn't begin to guess. |
Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
The sticker was $60k but he bought it for $53k. It's kind of cool to see the two trucks next to each other. 33 years worth of change. Both of them represent GMs heavy duty truck for their era.

Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
OH MY! That's a fair bit of change.
I guess I am NOT going to sell mine after all. How deep is that sub? Is there room for four? |
Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
The sub's top mount depth is around 3.25". I think Pioneer has a new version of this sub out: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...nt/TS-SW3002S4 . I don't think you could fit 4 of these behind the rear seat in a crew cab. Two of these enclosures might fit. Some stereo guys are pretty talented with fiberglass, etc. so they might be able to squeeze them in.

I thought you guys might want to see this tailgate bench that I just finished last night. It was a fun project and I think it turned out well. I was lucky to find the tailgate, tailgate band, and grill all for $30. The bench bottom lifts up to access the storage bins. The tailgate is locked in the up position until you pull the tailgate handle just like when it was on the truck. You can fold the gate down and sit on it that way also.

Anymore on this jewel?

Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
Nothing much lately. I've been busy with work and other projects. I do have an idea that I've been working on for the truck that I hope to be able to post sometime soon.

Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
Great work on your stereo system, and I really like your bench!!!
|
Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
That bench is "the bomb". If you run across another tailgate like that please let me know.
|
Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
Thanks guys! The bench was a fun project. Sodell, I've seen a few tailgates on craigslist in our area. You might search that. I've seen some in the Rogers, AR U-Pull-It but most of them have been in rough shape.

Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
I have been keeping an eye on CL, there was only one decent one and the guy wanted $150, he got angry when I offered him $75. I think he has it listed now for $100...I have been checking the upull it as well but I don't get up there often, its a pretty good drive form here.

Re: Project "River Truck" - CCLB 4x4
Yes I think we are both talking about the blue tailgate. Maybe you could build one out of a Ford tailgate or something. Hahaha! Just kidding. I'll let you know if I see any others.

I haven't done any big projects lately but here's one you guys might like. My truck came with a cheap tow hook bolted to the frame rail but I've wanted some better tow points up front. At the same time I didn't want to change the look of the front of the truck very much. So I came up with these shackle mounts made out of 1" thick steel. I built a template out of cardboard and then transferred them to steel. When the shackles aren't mounted, its tough to see the mounts.
