Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Well transfer case is done. And it's only 12:27. Or 0027 if you go off of what my phone says. Hahaha. To aid in the assembly I put the idler shaft in a bucket of ice water for few minutes and got the bearing it was receiving toasty with a torch put on some large welding gloves and as the shaft slid threw the gears it met a nice and toasty bearing. Few swift smacks of a wooden mallet and she was set perfectly....kinda. know the saying fool me one shame on you fool me twice shame on me. Yeah... I installed it backwards:censored: so I got it warm again and carefully disassemble it with a sledge hammer... came apart fine...flipped idler shaft..re instaled. .... S&*T put the helical cut gear in backwards.... :m5: okay uninstall it carefully again.... blew up the brand new bearing I spent 40 bucks on. Well shat...I just can't win... found the old one and lone behold it was in perfect shape. Third time putting it back together and it turned out fine. Fit perfectly boom assemble. clean all greese off prep for paint t and shot it matte black. Has all new grade 8 hardware. Done. .. goodnight hahahaha

Well today's at an end. And the brakes are done. Talk about pain in the rear! Sheesh. Tomorrow I will bleed them and instal drive shafts. Transfer case was fully completed Sealed up and installed. Found the two shift fork seals I needed in the old t221 case I have. But bought all fluids for the truck And only need to figure out throttle linkage and fuel line Route oh and one really stubborn brake line fitting that needs to be replaced.... suckers in the jungle of header pipes inside the frame rail... and I gave in and am probably running a cable linkage for the show this Friday. :/ darn. And organized the shop

Well. Motors. All wired up except the battery. Need to run get one fitting for the carb fuel Line. Need to install throttle cable. Finish bolting front rad support and grill. adjust gaps. Adjust the clutch. Hook up drive shafts. Cut and repair front drive shaft. Bleed brakes... ect. So to long of a list. I'll be the first to say it. But I bit off more than I can chew for thinking I could have finished this by friday. :/ oh well. Now I can just go to the show and look at all the pretty cars. But progress today... removed body lift. Got everything on the clutch hooked up and working. got one brake line on with a tricky bend up front that's goes to the master cylinder. Bolted the cab down for good. Installed transfer case linkage and got it to shift Good. Cut hole in the high hump trans tunnel. I used the twd one because it was in great shape compared to the 4x4. Think that's all I got For today... wish there where at few more hours of light though.

So may 9th is my final goal it'll let me take the time I need to do everything The right way. So I don't have to pull it apart just to re do it. And allow me to get some more funding. Get payed nextThursday. Time to fatten up the piggy bank again

Got the grill assembled tonight wired up and welded on the Chevrolet script that I made from a 66 c80. Turned out nice. I'm happy with it. I need one universal joint. Tailights. exhaust.(even if temporary) and to fill the axles. And transfer case with oil and she's drivable. Maybe this show thing on friday will happen. Hmm. It does start at 6 ish

Nope. Had to yank the transmission cover off the top again to set the a gift forks in the right spot. I had the first /reverse gear fork infront of the gear so it was being held in gear even when It appeared to be in neutral. but it's all kosher now.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Well the show was alright. Few cool lookin cars and trucks. Seen beter. But also seen worse. All in all an okay night.
|
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Yeah....after going to the show in Grants pass about 4 times in a row and basically seeing them same thing all the time...it gets old quick...rather be home workin on my truck. lol
|
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Exactly. I'd rather be working on the truck. So I found out why my motor sounded like it had a cam. Hah when it doesn't. My 600 dribbling" fuel into the intake hence the aggressive lope sound it has at idle. Haha darn was hoping the truck trolls may have magicaly installed a high life cam for me hah

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Ah..sounds like you fouled a plug. I run NGK's with a hotter heat range. Runs fine. Does it Misfire....or does it just sound like a dead cylinder? May not be the carb...My 600 ran fine on my stock 292....until the engine finally died on me. lol Serious valve train issues going on when the engine gets hot...weird...but...good excuse to jerk the old out and in with the new. :metal:
|
Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.
Might be. I checked them all when I put them back in but perhaps I could have since then. I'll go and check maybe sometime today. But mainly I wanted to set up my cable throttle linkage, and weld on my steering column so u can test drive it

Well just about done with thecable set up. I had to fab a temporary bracket out of some .75x.75 angle iron and some inch by 1/8 material. It'll work for now until I can make somthing cool out of stainless or aluminum. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I'm a bit more impressed with the kit. Tho it was only 3 bucks.
