Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
didnt get a hole lot done today.. put the motor and tranny together but the bolts on the torque converter dont line up with the flywheel so i gotta hold off on putting it in the truck.. but i did slap on the water pump and new alternator and bracket
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/6052/dsc0379p.jpg didnt want to have to do this but o well... It hung way too low so i had to trim it a lil bit you can see i cut a lil over an inch out.. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/2682/dsc0380r.jpg luckly it didnt take much to get the tubes to slide back into each other.. but i might have to do a lil bending on it once i get it welded cause it kicked it out toward the frame rail a lil bit. need to put the starter on and get it in the truck to really know how its gonna fit http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6515/dsc0383uk.jpg |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Sucks about the headers. Your picture of your shifter did make me go put mine on. I think I have the same one 32 double bend. I'm sure it took me twice as long as it did you. I don't like to read. Good to see you makin progress.

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Is your transmission manual or automatic?
I dont think I ever seen a manual with tranny fluid lines, or an automatic with a floor shifter like that.... |

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Just finished reading your whole thread again. Man you are doing great, and coming up on a year since you started this thread too!
I am probably going to tackle my floor pan, rocker panels and cab corners this weekend. I am off the next 4 days... we will see what I can get done! Cant wait to see your next update, see what you do next! Any pointers on getting those rocker panels off? |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Killer! Is Tuff Stuff the name of the brand or is that a Summit product line? I heard somewhere that chroming cast parts can make them brittle. Don't know if that's true or not but I still try to stay away just in case.
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
thanx everyone!!! McMurphy the easiest way i found to remove the rockers was just drill on the spot welds a lil bit (not even all the way through just enough to make them weak) then i used a air hammer to pop the welds loose.. it wasnt near as hard as i thought it would be.
and i was building on my truck bout 6 months before i started the thread so i had a lil head start!! haha Creep i think Tuff Stuff was the name of the brand.. On the box it said the chrome that will get you home!!! hahahaha what a fu*@#ng Joke!!! the weiand pump i wanna trade for is polished aluminum instead of chrome so hopefully it will be stronger!!! you could be right cause that tab broke way to easy |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Your truck is coming along nicely! Who did you buy the new rear bumper through? Keep it going you'll be rolling in no time!

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
haha ya that old truck look perfect!!! you gonna do a build on that truck?
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
We don't need no "Stinkin paint jobs"...I wanted to get a bumper sticker that says "IT IS PAINTED". from Stovebolt..not sure if they still sell them.
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
ya thats pretty cool.. i saw another sticker on an old vw that said "this is not an abandoned vehicle" i thought that was funny to
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
I get the same thing. I also get a lot of people "suggesting" that I leave it how it is. I saw a sticker on a truck at Good Guys that said "Hey D!&%#&@$, it IS finished". Priceless
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
your patina is perfect creep. the problem with my '61 is that someone painted the pass side fender and door yellow/cream so it kinda screws with it. personally I want to color match the crappy maaco blue on my truck and fake patina the parts that were repainted lol
