Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
NOTHING BUT SPENDING MONEY........
My buddy Martin and I both spent a bit. This weekend was the "Black Friday" Sale weekend at Brothers Trucks over in the USA. I had decided to replace the door window rubbers, felts etc in both my doors and the quaterlights as I am going to remove the glass when I repair and repaint the doors. Previously Mate Martin and I had seen some 60-66 Chevy trucks with the 67-72 rear bumpers fitted, so they were on my to buy list as well, if the price was right. The photos will show that the step or number plate recess is inverted. For me the 67-72 bumper allows me to put my number plate bracket on a hing, and then to have a removable tow ball fitted when I do tow, with the plate folded up and out the way, tidying the rear en up some more. I will load the pics of the different bumpers later. Correct bumper for 60-66 Fleetside. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps88976c25.jpg Then the 67-72 style Fleetside bumper http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps94a60a69.jpg One of the things we have learned out of this truck Resto thing is that it is expensive, so we always look for ways to save a bit. This weekends sale meant the "savings" could cover the Stateside costs of getting our combined order to Florida before it went into a UK bound container that should leave the USA by 18th December. Ron at STS Imports reckons the container should be here late January. Then it is his costs and of course the always present Customs Duty at 20% on everything....... You pay duty on the vat you pay etc, so taxes on taxes. So looking at combined versus solo orders. Martins bits. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps951445bf.jpg My order including shipping. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pse609345b.jpg And of course the combined purchase of all our parts. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps96f8a659.jpg Looking forward to getting these bits home in the new year. Also looking to buy a decent drivers side 1966 Quarter light window to replace my rusted out one. Anyone know of one for sale, please PM me. |

Thanks for sharing guys. I do/did have a slight concern...... Looking at the fit, it seems one should only open he tailgate to "horizontal" though. But I have to say, the finished fit looks great on all your trucks. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Grizz I clearanced mine 1/4"(6.35mm) ALL around. Laying down the gate was not planned. I have air bags so if one wants a bike to load it's low enough or air out for max drop. I have a one ton with Cummins to do the heavy lifting. Great progress on yours.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
This is not "what I did to my truck today" but what I did to my truck the last 2 and a half weeks. Here is the Before photo:
http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...psf79c7dbd.jpg The previous owner did a wonderful job on this truck but I did not like some of his decisions under the hood involving painting the alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pump and entire engine red. Also, under the hood was showing its age with dirt and grime, peeling paint. Quadrajet ran okay but leaked down overnight. The project involved an Edelbrock intake and 1406 carb along with cleaning and repainting block Chevy orange. I chipped most of the red paint off the a/c compressor. Repainted the power steering pump back to black and replaced red alternator with a new 110 amp chrome unit. I also wire brushed the exhaust manifolds and painted them with por15 grey manifold paint. Everything turned out okay and looks much better than before. I just finished up this morning and took the truck out for a drive. I have a little problem with the throttle linkage wanting to hang after hard acceleration. I will work on that tomorrow. Here are the After photos: http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...psf6e87332.jpg http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e...pse79793d7.jpg Hugh |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got the flat and low stance I wanted. 12 bolt rear reset with 3.73 gears and an Eaton posi. Disc brakes backed by dual reservoir master cylinder with brake booster. Drop spindles to complete the look. It now goes like hell, stops like an angel and sounds like a demon.
Thank you Switch Suspension for the suspension work. Now you have the confidence to do more C20s. The alignment shop managed to improperly re-attach one of the moon discs and it went missing during a test ride. A new one is on order and the truck will be completely done by the end of the week. Next steps: Interior refinement and then more power!!! http://imageshack.com/a/img908/7928/nQ7EoB.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Had to be home early today for tele-webex conference.
So the minute that was over I headed for the garage to remove a panel to take to the paint shop on Saturday, to buy my 2 Pack paint and other consumables etc for the truck. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseb3e8408.jpg While unbolting the 3rd bolt on this panel........ this happened. GRRRRRR !! http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa0297204.jpg Once I cut off the areal cable, as I could not get it unscrewed, and then cut the actual fitting off with a cutoff wheel, I had my colour sample. Note the trucks original blue colour behind it. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd89f012c.jpg I do hope I can the red colour matched up, as it really is very vibrant out in the sun. |

Cut in passenger sun visor. Installed new mirror and arm. Window crank, now ready for winter... windows roll up! Ordered a Captainfab brake booster. Waiting on bags, CPP master cylinder and booster, tie-rods to be dropped off. Not far from Porterbuilt install.

Now I have been wondering about passenger side sun visors. Were they optional extras, or standard fitment? My truck only had one fitted, but I like the idea of a passenger side one. Guess the search is on. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
My truck spent almost all of it's life in Texas until a couple of months ago, so is totally solid and the chassis is like new.
This is how it looked underneath when I got it...... http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psd57820f0.jpg British weather and salt on the roads mean that it wouldn't have stayed that good for long now it's over here, so yesterday I had the whole thing steam cleaned and then Waxoyl protected, including inside the doors, insides of the wings (fenders to those over the pond) and all the cavities injected. It looks tidy but more importantly, it won't go rusty with a bit of luck! http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psba7ee537.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ps54b18f2c.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ps125bef47.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psb71f720b.jpg |

i got all 3 of todays mods in this one picture!
red devil head to remind me how quick things can go bad  wood steering wheel to match the oak bed white fuzzy dice to match the wide white wall tires also picked up 6 quarts of royal purple synthetic oil a K&N filter and a bottle of Slick 50 so I;m ready for the first oil change at 1000 miles I am almost there with about 700 miles on the new GM crate motor now only problem so far was the alternator took a crap at 500 miles so i took the truck in to Phil Smith Chevrolet in Lauderhill, FL and they replaced the alternator under warranty for me. Pretty slick service if you ask me. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Long day yesterday.......
Partly because I have a miserable cough, splutter, farting chest cold.. Martin picked me and my 3 bike trailer up at 06.45 to go drop the trailer at his mums home 30 miles from here, also to pick up a Mazda MX5 door from her shed that is donating its glass to Nicola's MX5. From there to Deptford to MOT his Ford Mondeo ST Estate AKA "The Kennel" used mainly as parts chaser and to transport his and Amanda's four large dogs everywhere. MOT Passed..... http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps240ba848.jpg With that done by 9.45 we then went to the paint supplier to match and order my paint, get various other sundries. Lovely guy, Unfortunately, he only goes to work when it suits him, in our case after a call and text to let him know there was money to be made. So while waiting we went walkabout around Deptford market and found some bargains to spend money on. Got to see the paint guy just after 11.00 and managed to get a reasonable 2K paint match from the Chrysler colour charts. Firestorm Red "Variant C" is what I went for. Decided 6 liters should do as I plan to do inside the cab and all shut lines as well. Along with thinners, hardener and some other consumables, it lightened my wallet by another £350.00 http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps868b0db8.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5c046e65.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps56bdb386.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscba07528.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps010a577e.jpg Well all mixed up and a good colour match[/QUOTE] I was not surprised, but rather amazed at the mix of colours needed to get to my chosen colour. I think it will be a touch more alive than what is on the truck currently. After the paint shop, at which point I was feeling really ****e, we headed for a MacD lunch. Then back to Martin's to swop cars and to get my large compressor into his work van along with all the treasures and back to my place by 3.30 to unload and gloat. Martin headed home by 5.30 after he and Nicola had discussed all sorts of Christmas stuff I have no interest in. My high build filler and a couple of panel stands (tressles) had arrived as well, so one not wrapped, for Martin for Christmas and one for me...... |

I mocked up the tilt wheel, drivers seat and center console to see how they fit with the relocated Parking brake handle.
I removed the handle from under the dash and replaced it with C-30 type handle mounted in the high hump trans cover. I am going to move the parking brake handle back an inch so it clears the very bottom of the dash. I thought I had that covered the first time. This high hump is my test unit. When I get the final holes where they need to be, I'll transfer to my good cover. Alsmost time to go back out & reassemble my heater unit. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I like what you're doing with your interior. I'd go for that C30 handbrake in my truck but it would clobber my under dash A/C evaporator.

I am waiting on some parts for the 63 1/2 ton I am building so I worked on shortening the frame on a 63 GMC 3/4 ton I bought to flip and hopefully make a few bucks on one of these days.
Yesterday I pulled the bed off and today off came the front clip, doors, cab, and got her all measured up and marked off to slice and dice this coming weekend. Gonna shorten the frame and bed and put her back together as is. |

Finally got some new shoes on the beast.. Goodyear Wrangler 235/75/15's, nice to have modern rubber. Also got the tailgate on. Bit of a pita, but it's on.... now if someone would please sell me a rear bumper.... Arrgh, can't believe it's so hard to find an original painted bumper. How many of these damn trucks did they make?? Oh well, I'm learning patience I guess.
