Post #200! Not necessarily any update, just glad to have the truck mostly together (sheet metal wise, minus drip rails Im installing tonight). In all honesty I didn't think I'd make it this far! Its been a long journey and its a lot of tough work, long nights, stress... but I walk out through the garage to go to work every week day and Im happy with what I see!
I do also apologize for those who aren't picture happy, I just like posting photo evidence of progress. Attachment 2258425 Attachment 2258426 Attachment 2258427 |

Time to move onto the doors... told myself I wouldn't go into the doors.. I lied.
However, the new stampings on the door bottoms is soooooo much better than the old ones. Attachment 2260603Attachment 2260604 Attachment 2260605Attachment 2260606 Attachment 2260607 |

The studs welded on is what I would do. Nuts mounting from the inside. Then I would put a insulation cover over it for water and to push the sound into the cab instead of in the doors. That's what I did with my speakers in the kicks.https://www.ebay.com/itm/32424943927...Bk9SR-Csw5HVYQ

Couple irons in a couple fires this weekend... painted all the column pieces, rear speaker brackets, and started inventorying what I will use on the column new vs original. Learned these 67 columns are a bit different than the later years. Also tried out the dry ice + isopropyl alcohol trick to remove the inner door sound deadener. It actually works really well. Inexpensive as well.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)
I can't say that I've ever heard of the dry ice and isopropyl alcohol trick before. Would you mind elaborating? I'd like to get the rust concealing crud off the inside of my doors as well.

Here's a description from Google: "Adding isopropyl alcohol to dry ice makes the liquid cool very quickly ⏤ the mixture's temperature can reach -90°C (-130°F). At this point, the water inside the flowers, candy, and banana quickly freezes and turns into ice, making these objects 'stoney'." |
Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)
I tell ya'll, I know I say the weather where I am holds me back a ton, but I swear it isn't an excuse. Last weekend, around 65 degrees. This week/weekend, high of 50ish. Trying to do the painting I need to when I can, but man its hard to do. Like watching grass grow waiting for better temps to paint in.

the many steps to making a repair area look like it wasnt touched.. still have to weather it, but I stacked my colors pretty well hopefully, so maybe it wont be too tough.

Got to getting the patina kind of matched. Some water splatter, multiple layers of rust and dirt colored paint, and some rock salt helped a bit. Given the area they're in, I think Im pretty pleased with how they came out. I wish the paint color was a bit closer, but this was so hard to match given each area is gradually different shades, so the paint guy had a hard time getting a good read on his machine. The hood hinges should break it up some though and make it not as noticeable!

Hadnt posted the results of the dry ice mix... very clean. I took outside, blew it all out, and went after it with wire wheels, bristle brushes, and finished with a 80 grit DA with a contour pad. Also replace the door hinge pins. Did they really use plastic bushings from factory? These werent sloppy but I figured why - glad I did now that I found those. Also patched the upper portion of the door, had some rust growth and a small section of holes. Came out pretty well actually, not to be seen anyways so I wasn't too pressured to make it look amazing, just straight.

Fixed the front edge of the door bottom and it came out pretty good. Need to get it mounted to see about the fitment of the outer skin, so I can remove it and get the new one fitted better.

Satin clear put down on the firewall, dash, and interior. Came out good! I used the Spraymax aerosol can that has the button for the two part mix. Really impressed.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)
I've been impressed with Spraymax also. I used the high gloss clear on a truck I recently bought and sold and that was a great product. The satin clear fits the look of your truck very well. :metal:

Now that I have the clear laid down on the interior, I can begin assembling the dash items and firewall parts. Ive begun installing the Vintage Air kit I got from laidbackrecreations and have been installing bits and pieces like the column, brake pedal assembly, and all the various dash fasteners. Totally overestimated my ability to store parts in easy places to find
I also opted to get the Full Custom Fab Vintage air bracket, since I will be running a modified heater box I will more than likely not be running the block off plate provided by Vintage Air. It fits well and really in all honesty needed no modification. :chevy: Attachment 2264714 Attachment 2264715 Attachment 2264716 |

First time I've ever seen that FCF Vintage Air bracket. That'd be nice to have for the guys who have already smoothed their firewall. Good to know it was an easy install. :chevy:

Been grinding away so long in the garage I forgot what it was like to be at a race... went to the NASCAR race in Richmond on Sunday. Boy I forgot how reviving it was to be around some fast moving cars.

Also added my speaker idea to the door. As I put in here before, I had someone sent me the speaker grill from a parts cab, and welded into my door. Ill run a 6x9 or something like that and encase it to protect it from water and debris, hopefully this ends up looking good.

I promise Ive been working on it  just a lot of weld, grind, weld grind, hammer, weld, grind.... went to the Good Friday Mud Bog here in Charles City and saw a pretty slick 69/70 and a couple b-a Squarebodies :chevy:

The passenger door has always had a mild depression across the entire panel, so I cut the door long ways across the body line just below the bolt in door panel, massaged everything and welded it back up, and chopped up my Altman latches and welded in.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)
Cool! I always wondered about welding in the Altman latches as oppose to bolting in. I like where your going with this.:metal:

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)
Speaker grilles and latches look great. I would have done the same thing with those. Cleans them right up nice and smooth!

Really liking how this door latch came out. Also made a bracket for the under dash speaker, just need to get some foam material to seal it in place under the dash.

POR15 before assembly of the door skin, since I will not be able to access this easily for painting after. And it came out really well. Also panel adhered some 1/8 plate to create support for the speaker, so the panel doesn't vibrate light crazy if I get to turning it up.

Door looks good in place. Added a set of door wiring looms which appear to be off of a S10 or Squarebody (?) best I can guess. Got them off eBay for a whopping $80 but I far more like the fact they are bolted in, rather than just held in by friction. They are a bit large, but only will carry a few wires (speakers, MAYBE power windows one day), other than that they have plenty of room to move and squish. Also bought a cherry gauge cluster off board member Rods, been trying to track it down for a while! Mine had every single mount hole either broken or cracked, honestly amazed it never fell out of the dash.
