Your truck is a lot further down the hill than mine. Yours can drive.

Thanks. Camping, car shows and BBQ season is over. Time to go inside (garage) and hibernate for the winter.

The northwest c10 group is good for motivation to get out and drive and meet other local truck guys.

Do ya think they would mind a K20?? :) I did stop at the Triple X last summer during one of the runs, but my truck wasn't drivable that day.

Accept C10,20,30 K5,10,20,30 suburban, blazer, shortbed, longbed, fleet side, step side etc. 1960-1987. If you had a C50 they would accept you. Just an informal group not a club of people that like Chevy and GMC trucks.

Third door has a big dent and it twisted the door structure.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psad98e456.jpg

So I decided to remove the skin to untwist the door.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps71294b70.jpg

It decided to remove my skin too. Automotive karma?
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps377916c1.jpg

After some hammering I got it to look better. Still need to shrink a couple spots that oil can. But may save the door. http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps23a6f942.jpg

Need to show us how to shrink the metal when ya can. I've used shrinkers and stretchers before but by hand?

After hammering the big dent out there was a little oil canning so it's stretched a little. I haven't got it done yet so I will let you know when I'm happy with it.

Getting the hinges mounted into the suburban. Doing a lot of measuring to make them the same as the other side. And since that was a few years ago I need to remember what I did. I feel this setup is stronger than aftermarket suicide hinges. It is connected at the bottom hinge, in the middle at floor height and at the top by the window. Then I brace it with 2x2 tubing up to the roof.

http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psjcnwqh2q.jpg

The door jamb is only set there until I know it is correct.

Made some more progress today. Got the 3rd door swinging suicide.

http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psrf5pv5ne.jpg

This is the inner door bracing from the ford door.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psicexfdg0.jpg

This is where the hinge box intersects with the floor. I cut it so it could be welded on 3 sides for strength.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psupnpjpnc.jpg

Here is the lower hinge welded to the edge of the floor.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psven1p2yp.jpg

The hinges look funny but they are straight.

Re: Project Family Hauler

Been working on some rust repair.

Under the 3rd door was gone so I did some patching.

http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pssnjddycp.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps716pzfdo.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psh2opuskz.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pszkpgcuqu.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psl4jvbrty.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psfnep5kfa.jpg

Then I needed to work under the right front door.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps4d901193.jpg

The floor and support are gone.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psmxh4aujb.jpg

Now the support is back.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps705b9o7p.jpg

Got the floor cut to fit.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psvjj7kgnc.jpg

The bent edge between the floor and firewall is rusted out. Need to make this as it is a major support so the floor doesn't dent where your feet go. So I bent two pieces of metal and plug welded them together so I can attach them to the floor and look original.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psr7valtev.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psid1a45kd.jpg

Still working on the front floor so no finished pics.

Great work! Rust repair sure is a bad one to get through. I always have to push myself to keep at it or it could just get sat off to the side. Your suicide door turned out awesome!

You must have a big rust problem too. Got distracted from the suicide door because the B pillar wasn't connected at the bottom. Figured I would set it in place first.

Re: Project Family Hauler

Sorry my ADD is acting up. Needed to work on my other truck. Gas gauge quit working and the replacement part wasn't the same so I decided to change the fuel tank. But the old filler was in the bed wood so I had to change that. Then I needed to figure out where to fill it without ruining the paint. Here are some pics.
This is the old bed. http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psc1526d14.jpg

Lots of bolts.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psut75gjhf.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psu9nfmtnd.jpg

Filler behind the left taillight.

http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psqzdxzl0i.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psotrr4lqb.jpg

The new wood is Padouk.

This is the Boyd Welding tank.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psxdoz4wjo.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pshderdo2y.jpg

Relocated fuel pump to front of tank.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pstopnls9b.jpg

This connects the filler in the stake pocket to the tank.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psiomobidt.jpg

Final coat of varnish goes on the wood tomorrow. Next weekend I will reassemble everything then I can get back to the suburban.

Thanks. The wood is padouk. I used a clear gloss marine spar varnish. That is 6 coats. The fuel filler was fun. Trying not to scratch the paint.

If you want to find local get togethers check out northwest c10s on Facebook. We have local meets to check out every ones trucks. Not a car club, just a bunch of Chevy truck owners.

Just finishing a small addition to my garage so my finished truck will be better protected from the dirt. Then I can work on it again.

Re: Project Family Hauler

I have been working on it slowly. Mostly rust repair to the passenger side. I also found out why the back door didn't fit right. The body bushing just in front of the rear tire was missing, causing the body to sag 3/4". Because of all my rust it really twisted the body.

Here is where I left off.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psbvy8klar.jpg

With the body mount corrected the doors open and close better.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psvvboezjy.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pshbf50fh6.jpg

The floor is done behind the B pillar.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psrcrhfswu.jpg

I tack welded the front floor patch.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps72y5kdr4.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psyfjh7r4j.jpg

Then I ground down all the welds and painted the bare metal.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps3drapkbl.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pstafzrufg.jpg
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psujfsn6rr.jpg

I rebuilt the bottom of the B pillar and removed the suburban part of the rocker panel.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...pseqi1yqex.jpg

Then I grafted it onto the truck rocker panel.
http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/x...psidwpnngc.jpg

Next I will finish the bottom of the B pillar and be playing with the rocker panels. Also need to make the back door latch.
