Got the dent thing figure out, it takes time:lol:. I still need to cut the piece in behind the fender out to get a dolly in there. No biggie. I was going to do that tonight but it took a bit longer to sandblast and prime my wheels than I thought. I did mess with the dent a little. I think with several more hours of work it will look real good.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Nice work J. Keep it going... this thread is my daily inspiration.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Keep at it - glad your making progress on the dent.

Most of the time working on it helps me unwind... The other times I have to look at it as the best headache I could have:lol:.

Otay! The dent, other than a light skim coat is done! I need to weld the inner back in and grind it down. The wheels came out nice. I think I shoulda worn a respirator, they may have come out nicer:lol:. I plan on running these wheels for awhile. I'd like a nice set of Weld wheels, oh well, maybe later. If I have time after all the fun Easter stuff I'll work on it some more..... It is addicting.:chevy:

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Congrats on the dent...things are looking good!

Got some primer overspray on my wheels, oh well shoulda moved'em sooner. I've got several coats of clear on there, I should be able to fix them right up.... Heres the gas filler door I'm using. If I get to feeling better and all goes well, I'll at least have it tacked in by Thursday night.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
looking forward to seeing how you get neck to the fuel tank. I'm not sure how I'm going to do mine, so take lots of pics of that :)

Awesome thread man! Love all the pic's. Definetly an inspiration for my build. This will be my first frame off resto, and do have a lot off rust issues to deal with also. Seems like VT had a real nice gas filler setup changeover post a while back. Keep up the good work! K5 to stay alive!

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
J come on down. I figured it's a little far for you. Jamie and you come on down. I told Huck, but he said he was busy. Got about 25 members so far. Even got a guy coming from the Netherlands.

No pics tonight, I forgot the camera at the house and its raining so I didn't run back over to get it... I got the piece I cut out tacked back in and now I need to bolt the splash shield in. Then check alignment and weld the rest back in, checking alignment along the way to make sure it doesn't pull in. I can't wait to cut a big hole next to the marker light for the gas filler door! not! lol..... |

Made some progresss tonight. I welded up the rest of the inside and bolted up the splash guard. Got the trim holes filled in too. All thats left to do is some grinding and bolt the upper part of the wheel well back in. Started messing with the filler some. I can't quite decide where to put it. I'll post a pic of it of what I'm thinking now but I may move it back some. Centered in that space some more. What do yall think? I'm also toying with the idea of a billet gas door.
|
Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Line it up according to where the filler tube will be coming up, will save you the trouble of cutting up the floor. (easiest)
Save the pieces you cut out and reuse em for the patches. ;) |
Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Save the billet for the kids running hondas with fart pipes. Just my opinion of course.
|
Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I think I would stay away from the billet piece to me. I think the door you have finished in body color will look great as it blends in. To me, the billet style just sticks out like a sore thumb and screams "look at me".

Got a little bit done this morning. I may go back over and finish it up. Still not sure of my round door. Oh well too late now, lol.... The gas cap is round, so I figured the door would look better round, haha.

The door looks better to me now that its all welded in and one color. Filled in the stock hole too. Now I need to cut out the rear for the new filler. |
Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
