Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Got one most folks have never heard of. Gotfredson Trucks, built from the early 20's to the late 30's. Ranged from 3/4 to 5 ton and a great reputation for being a work truck. Theres a website dedicated to them and the family is related to my wife. Her moms maiden name is Gotfredson. Never heard of them myself till I married my wife. They have one in the truck museum outside of Sacramento, Ca.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Cool! If I heard of them,I forgot. So thanks for the for the education. It`s a neat thing to have that history in the family. Now we need someone to pay that museum a visit.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
okay heres something for you so-called 4x4 enthusiasts ;)
now i know this is vague but bear with me...in the 30s or 40s Marmon Herrington had built a couple over very large Ford trucks, which i believe were called "Super Swampers" or something similar, i can't find a picture and how I know all this is, I saw it in a Ford Truck magazine close to 10 years ago, dated 1997 i think, they had an article about them. anyone have any clue what I'm rambling about? |
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Not sure but I may have seen the same thing. Also the Marmin-Herrington conversions for the Saudi oil exploration were in the same feature as I recall. IFIRC there were everything from passanger cars to large trucks with conversions pictured. Sound right?

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Tim, you better be careful with that Tonka Jeep. You could put it on Ebay and buy another big chevy with the money. I can't believe what some of the toys go for $$$$$$$!
|
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
How do you like the lift kit I made to fit the big tires on?Tonka never made the Gladiator with big tires.I have a `58ish (Ford) fullsize Tonka Flareside PU I restored as a Hiway Dept truck that`s lifted with the grader tires on it.I`ll have to dig it out for pictures(and sell...)
It`s hit`n`miss now on Ebay. But,I did peek at old toy trucks the other day and say a mismatched Tootsie Toy low-boy (Matchbox Major trailer/early`60s GMC coe tractor) that was up to over $200!!!I was interested because of the GMC cab.I`m aware of toy values and have a huge collection. But,that made no sense at all!I collected alot in the 80s and into the 90s and have a huge collection.I`m ready to do just what you said and put that money into something I can "use".If they don`t bring good money I`ll keep them. |
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
The lift kit and big tires are cool! I will have to do something like that for my boy. He has too many toys as it is. A freind dropped of some old Tonka truck the other day. the old style Loader and dump truck. Both the old all metal ones. they don't look like they were ever played with. Needless to say they are in the shop on a shelf. (He already has at least six of these in rougher condition)
|
Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes
Yeah,my son had a huge sandbox and he had his own collection of Tonkas(that I got to restore).I wanted him to grow up with the good stuff.I did this Gladiator for him.He kept getting stuck with those stock straight treads.
