OK, here's the burn out video. It's my first video so it's kinda weak....it's with my my slicks and probably should have waited until I put the PHATTY's back on....I still need to do some more motor tuning and then I'll do another one, but for now this will have to do ;).

I've been working off and on trying to figure out a cool, but fairly simple fuel filler modification for under the bed gas tanks. I've read a lot of threads and have seen some really cool stuff that people have come up with including in bed, tail light and side marker light. Each one of these requires modifications that require cutting and welding on the bed. Since my truck is already painted and the bed has been linered, I gave myself some pretty tight parameters on what I wanted to create, such as:

1. It should be a fairly simple mod that most people could accomplish with minimal skill
2. It should be bolt on
3. Absolutely NO cutting or drilling would be done on the bed (for painted trucks)
4. It must use existing holes
5. And it needed to be fairly cheap

Well, here's what I came up with. I still have to do some fine tuning, but I'm very happy with how it's turning out. Once I go smooth with it, I'll probably do a write up on the install. What da ya think????

Re: 68 S/C update.....

Nice set-up, I like the requirements and I'm definitely interested. I too have been thinking about something along these lines. I like all the mods I have seen (in bed, tail light, stake pocket, and marker light). I have been leaning towards the stake pocket or marker light. Some of the tail light mods I have seen look like they need more rigidity or the light could open going down the road. I can't do the bed floor because like yours my bed has a liner. How flimsy is the marker light when you open it to add gas? Are you using a cap that does not need to be removed to fill the tank? I think you would almost have to.

Probably so. I was walking down an aisle at Home Depot and picked it up.

It's not flimsy at all. It has a very strong spring coupled with an "over-center" mechanism, which spring loads the open and closed positions. They way my setup is designed, you have to glue in the screw for the front hole, but on the rear hole you have the option of gluing it in OR you can put the screw into it's original keeper. Either way, it's not coming open. Screwing it in the orignal keeper will also prevent anyone from messing with it. As far as the filler neck and cap, I'm using the boat filler gas cap that has a spring loaded "handle". It's tight, but very easy to take off and on. I don't think they make a gas cap like you are talking about that will fit down in the hole (there's only a little over 2" to work with). I added a picture of the cap I'm using.

I had it machined down so that it would fit. It would be nice to fine one without the flange, but I haven't had any luck so far.

I finally got the blow off valve installed. It sound like a hurricane under the hood at a moderate throttle. I also started the 72 cable pedal install. Should have it finished up in the next day or so. Here's a few pictures of the progress...

I'll eventually get the brake pedal that matches or just take the chrome off of the gas pedal. They all are slanted /. 1-2 hrs depending on how you do it.

I like the fact that it was a nice truck to start with but it's so much more w/the simple details items & corrections made where necessary (5-crimps on one wire??; those rear coils??; the cheesy looking fuel cell & batt placement).

Excellent work on this one!

Thanks Scoti. It's been a fun truck to just "update" and not have to go through the whole restoration process. Someday maybe Ill be able to talk Nate into building me a custom chassis, but right now I love driving it as it is.

I finished the pedal upgrade. I used a extra Lokar cable I had laying aroujnd instead of using the 71/72 factory one. It worked a little better with the supercharger setup.

, Unfortunately that's the only color they offered, and for the price I couldn't pass it up.

Thanks for the length. One question though, is the stated cable length from end to end of the cable or the sleeve?

I'm not sure hgs. You might want to give Lokar a call. I know they offer a 36" one also.

OK, well my small pedal project project has turned into an engine compartment "remodel". I've wanted to move some stuff around for a while, I guess now is as good of time as any....

Thanks! I've finally got everything back together, but I'm still playing with my pedal setup. I also ordered an all new fuel setup that should be able to handle the demand of the S/C. I should have that installed by next week. Also, I had these wheels "laying around" and thought I would bolt them on to see how they look. What da ya think???? :D
