Any progress on this baby yet?

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Nope gotta pull the transmission out and look at the clutch. Dunno when that is going to happen with school and work right now.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Well good luck with it man!
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Well I got the transmission pulled out of the truck tonight. After looking at the clutch and noticing there was nothing wrong with it I came home and looked at some stuff and I think I have found that the 6.2 will use a different pressure plate than a 350. Im going to pick one up this week some time so hopefully I will be able to get the truck up and working correctly soon.
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Do you have a 6.2L flywheel on there?
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Yes I do. I called the guy I got the 6.2 from and he said that he used his big block clutch and it worked fine. So we got to looking (He works at oriellys) and we found out that the 6.2 and the 454 will use the same clutch and that clutch can also be used on the 350, but the clutch that I have seems to be for a 350 and not used on the 454 or the 6.2. I am going to take my clutch in to see if it is any different than the one they have.
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
How much is a clutch? Seeing how you have it torn apart, you might as well replace it with the correct clutch so you know what you have.
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
They are $109 for the whole clutch, but as I have told you it is the exact same one that I have currently. I have narrowed it down to not getting enough stroke out of my current setup. My clutch is not in bad shape so I am just going to leave it alone and try to figure out how to get the stroke I need. I may have to move to a smaller bore slave.
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Or bigger bore master..

Yeah I was going to suggest that. I'll try to find the thread where someone did a pretty clean job of it.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Well I went ahead and bought a new clutch pack for the truck and then put the transmission back into the truck. Turns out it worked the first time, I am not sure why it would not work with the old clutch pack, but it now works. Hopefully it will continue to work.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Sweet, that's always a relief!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
You don't know how irritated i was getting with this thing, i kept looking at the fuel tank and lighter. I was going to burn it down, but decided just to put it back together to see what would happen.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Haha good choice!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Well today I went to start the truck and it started cranking really slowly and then i tried it again it the starter motor burnt up. So $170 later I got a new starter in the truck and it starts like a dream! I think the old starter was on its last bit and I finally killed it, every once in a while it would turn the engine over very slowly and was hard to start and other times it would turn the motor good. But now it burnt up and the new starter runs like a champ.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
I've decided to keep the project, so I dove back into it again yesterday. First thing was fixing my steering box. It blew a seal and so i fixed that but for some reason the seal has already popped again so I am going to just get a new steering box.
I also have decided that 6 tires is just to much. So I took the bed off and slapped some singles on the back. Yes I am using a dually axle with singles on it, the rear tires I believe the rear axle is 3 inches total wider than the front, so about 1.5 on each side. I dont like how the rear tires tuck under the bed and the front ones stick out so this should hopefully stick them out and make it look better in my opinion. I dropped my good SRW long bed, but I am going to see if I cant bend the parts that are folded in close to where they need to be for now and then maybe find a whole new bed or a good bed side. I was out seeing if I could tell a difference with the singles. I guess it helps not having the bed on so it road smoother and I decided to do some flexing. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...b/IMG_0477.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...b/IMG_0476.jpg So sunday I am hoping to get a new steering box and get the bed on. Then put my dynamat in the truck and get some heat in it finally. |
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Good progress man! How's the weather down there. It looks like it's chilly. It is cold here now. Dang it!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Well I got some stuff done today. I did not end up getting a steering box today and it wont be in till Tuesday so the truck is not drivable right now. I did get the SRW box on today. Its not great but for now it is a bed and it will work.
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...b/IMG_0481.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...b/IMG_0482.jpg And if you are wondering how it looks with singles on a Dana 70 HD dually axle here is a picture. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...b/IMG_0484.jpg As you can see I believe it sticks out about 1.5 inches. It kind of looks weird, but I think when I lift the truck 6 inches and put some 37s under it the big meats will look good on there. |
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Tuck looks good, IMO it will look great with fat meats under'er. Ever time I see a truck with stock tires it looks like the rear end is narrower than the front.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Nice!!
I want to swap a DRW diff and front hubs onto my crew so I can run H1 Double bead locks with no spacers... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Hummer tires will look sweet on it with your wide wagon wheels!
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Yes it will. I just gotta find some 6 inch lift springs for the front and do a poor man shackle flip in the rear. And fix brake lines and steering.
|
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
I would go for a 4" lift, I think 6" will be too much and get to be annoying getting in and out of every day. To tell the truth if I could do it over I would order a 2.5" lift for my gmc, it already sits higher than the blazer does with 40"s and its only on 33"s. :\
What color do you plan on painting the wheels? |
Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
I dont think a 4 inch lift will clear enough for any flex if you drive offroad at all. I don't want to cut fenders. It might get annoying jumping in there all the time but I think I can manage.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
I think this is a 4"

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
That looks really close to the fenders. I would rather be safe than sorry. Ive talked to several people that ran 4 inch and 37s that have said at full lock they have gotten into the fenders.
