It'll be either white/blue like the first rendering in this thread, or replace the blue with dark green and the white with silver.

Update on the hidden hinges: It's not as simple as I thought... I've determined that in order to use a single point (conventional) hinge I'll have to shave the rear drip rail. You just can't put the fulcrum high and aft enough to clear it. It doesn't matter what the rest of the hinge looks like, if it's a single point hinge the arch is fixed around the fulcrum, and this determines the hatch motion.

The other option is to use a compound hinge like Sachse Rod Shop makes. This would move the virtual fulcrum to the outside of the panels providing the correct arch for the hatch motion.

I made up some simple drawings to help illustrate this. The compound hinge diagram is exaggerated, but shows basically what a virtual fulcrum looks like:

I like the stock style hinges. Keeps it looking more like a 69 Tahoe. Helps make it more of a guessing game...Is this truck stock? Once you start smoothing and modernizing the exterior you lose a little of that.

Of course Id still love to have it either way :)

Ya, that's why I don't want to shave the drip-rail, just hide the hinges. Most people won't notice... even 67-72 truck owners. How often do people study the back of a 67-72 Burb (besides a few of us here)? ;)

Looks like the hinges might have to go on the back burner for now. It may be more time/money than it's worth. We'll see...

I have a bunch of goodies coming in the Big Brown Truck over the next couple of weeks :D

Well, I couldn't get the OG stud out of the rear end. Must need a press or something and I'm not taking the whole thing out at this point. So I ended up hacking it off...:o

The other thing I found is that you need to put the bar in place at both ends BEFORE you tighten up the passenger side U-Bolt. This is because there is some play in the bracket's U-Bolt holes. So if you install the bar you can clock the bracket correctly, then tighten the U-Bolt.

Also, I already have lowering blocks and longer U-Bolts so the nice new one's that come with the kit are useless to me. You may be able to ask for longer ones if you already have blocks.

Alright, alright;) Bags (SS RE7's) for all four corners, the top digital air management package from SD, KP step notch, and some of their weld-on shock brackets. I'm going to put the rear bags in the stock location for now and see how I like it. The 2.5" lowering blocks plus bags should get me pretty low :cool:

I also have my quarter glass and all the rear seals on the way :D

You get more use out of fender washers than anyone I know! :D I did it the hard way, I cut them all out, :rolleyes: . Are you filling the hole on the bottom?

Yep, I used 1" OD 3/16" ID "fender washers." They fit perfectly and the 3/16" hole is easy to weld up. The BD hinge slots and the "trough" (as I call it) are next. :D

this is the setup i just completed on the rear of my truck and the bottom of my license plate sits 4.5" off the ground. that's with RE7's, 2.5" blocks, and a bolt in notch. If i had a bigger notch, i could easily get another 2" so really, the blocks are pointless with a bolt in notch. details are in my build thread in my sig.

sounds like you're going with a step notch. that should get really low with bags and blocks.

The blocks don't allow you to go lower aired out, but they do allow you to "ride" lower at a higher air pressure (if needed).

I'm basing that on this:

This is the notch I'm going with. This truck has relocated bags and no blocks. You can see how close the trailing arms are to the frame. Mine will have bags in the stock location so the arms will be spaced off the frame by the hight of a collapsed bag when aired out. I'll make up for that with the blocks.
