It is a direct bolt in but does require a simple modification to the wiring as you will be eliminating the voltage regulator....there's a bunch of threads on here....do a search of "alternator conversion" or "internal regulated" and tyou will find the wiring mod....Also I believe you can find it under the FAQ section.

youre doing a great job on that truck that machine is so clean i can hardly beliee it

i know a couple of people here in the netherlands that had problems with wrong parts i was allways under the impression they used us to dump there bad parts too because we have to pay a lot to send them back and most of the time just adapt the stuff to fit our needs but it seems it happens everywhere .

one guy here has more success in getting the right parts though , he build up a network of persons that know there stuff and work at the suplyers and he only deals through them and noone else .
on the one hand that means those persons get a verry nice commision on those sales and the guy over here has to send less stuff back usually the salespersons go the extra mile for him cause hes buying for bout 1500 dollar a month in materials .
it pays to have people in the automotive busness wish know where they talking about , a lot of the oldtimers that did are quiting and retiring and the mom and pop stores that did are swalowed up by bigger firms there now run by cheap 16 year old parttimers that mostly just understand import cars and turbo's if they do that and cant pick a part without checking the vinnumber , beware the guy that build a car from different year parts he might need to go back multiple times or cant find the right part to safe his live unless hes alowed behind the counter with the old part in hand comparing it to the stuff on the shelves

we have the same thing over here. The "discount" auto part stores are run by people that don't know a nut from a bolt while the mom and pop NAPA Carquest type stores can look at a bolt and tell you the thread, size, grade etc...

Well I had been looking for a SWB Big Block truck. All my truck are original(pre54) and I want a hot rod. So I figured I would buy a factory built hot rod.
The firetruck was pulled out of service recently. One of the volunteers on the dept. towed it to Hot August Nights in Reno. (Probably an excuse to get a free room and beer). I was there looking for trucks but did not see it, a buddy told me about it. So I called and emailed. The truck was still for sale. I hopped on the Harley and took a great ride thru the mountains to see it about 150 miles away. It was way better than I even thought. Made an offer, which was accepted after about a week of going thru the bureaucracy. A week later I drove up and towed it home.

Just revisited this from start to finish. Looks like your getting close to wrapping things up. I think your changes in color choice made a HUGE difference. It turned out to be really sharp.

Thanks everyone for the "props"....I really do appreciate your words and it really helps me stay motivated....I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.....I'm fortunate that business has actually picked up for me over the past few months and allowed me to keep rolling on this project...I'm getting ansy and want it done....But of course I now have found a couple mods I want to do after I get her "completed".....one is that awesome hidden ashtray head unit for GPS & Music.....that is an absolute must!....But I'm shooting for basic completion by the end of the year....two hours at a time :)

Finally got the Vintage Air system installed…..Not exactly what I would call “SURE FIT”……but not that bad either….The installation instructions are really more like a “tip sheet” rather than real instructions……and their sequence is not correct either!......Now that I’m done I could install the next one in a ¼ of the time!

They (V.A.) claim that on non-air cabs there is no cutting of the firewall required….That’s BS…..You need cut it out as pictured to accommodate the upper binary safety switch line….I chose to make a quickie cover plate for the unused firewall openings….(I did see another forum member had to make the same cut I did)

Well, Vintage Air supplies their own glove box with the kit....its only about 3" or 4" deep and is hard plastic....I test fit it and it seemed to fit ok!

Finished up the last of the interior dyeing I needed to do....Several different people have recommended this "Colorbond" stuff.....it was super easy to work with....virtually no prep!...Just clean w/acetone and then apply with 3 or 4 light mist coats.....It really just soaks in nice, quite amazing!.....I hope it lasts as good as it looks!

Here's the link to their site...I could'nt find the color I needed on their color chart....but I was able to locate the correct "Medium Blue" in that same brand at one of the Camaro parts house's (Rick's).....

I just went through the whole thread and I am impressed to say the least. I like them stock too. When (in the begining) I read that you were going to add factory air I said to myself aw man you need to go V.A...then I saw you did. You'll be glad you did. I put it on my truck and I will do it again and yes the instructons are out of sequence imo too. Next time I'm puting the lines on before finish mounting the evap box. Nice job!!

The arm rests were light blue before I shot em.....Most of the dyed pieces were new repop parts...so I ordered them all in the light blue....it made for a nice base and easy to cover.....I did dye my old saddle colored dash pad for practice and it came out quite a bit darker looking than the light blue based parts.....That rear view mirror bracket cover in the pic was saddle colored as well, and it came out a little darker as you can see....
