So A friend of mine Anthony is really into into art type stuff like carving tiki's,painting's, tattoo's,just all sorts of things, he is not a traditional type guy like me by far...we decided we would let him practice pin stripping my truck at a get together we were having at one of my car club members house since thats something he is trying to learn: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/007-31.jpg I just let him do whatever he wanted and since it was friday the 13th and he into lucky 13 type stuff amongst many other weird **** ,he decided to do what I called a rat fink, ed roth type 13 and some pin stripping on my truck: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...tjennz/307.jpg heres is the final product: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-47.jpg little but at both door handles: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/004-39.jpg Little at both tail lights: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-32.jpg I drove the truck around today , but when i got home I had to get rid of the 13 I just couldnt do it since i really just want some traditional stripping on my truck and didnt feel that what he did, didnt match the style of my truck so I had to erase the 13: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/003-38.jpg His lines are not the best and off in alot of places but he gave it a shot and I appreciate that very much and gave him a chance to practice a little and have to start somewhere and planning on getting some better stripping but for now ill run it till I get tried of it.. Heres me and a club member are sitting and messing around checking out Anthony's chopped VW square back hes working on: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...tjennz/309.jpg All and all a good night hanging out with friends doing car stuff and hanging out! |
Re: Birth of a C10
Not really a update but i thought it was pretty neat seeing my truck loaded up for the first time with metal headed to the scrap yard tomorrow and figured it was picture worthy..... I got me a working truck

Re: Birth of a C10
Am glad you erased the 13, like you said it didnt fit the motif...
The rest of it looks good tho, I especially like the subtle additions around the door handles !! Sometimes less is more. |
Re: Birth of a C10
Ya I agree! The stripping on the hood needs to be redone for sure! But im just trying to get a feel to have any there at all, I almost dont think i should have any on the hood maybe just the inside on the dash....but for now ill leave it on the hood to test it out..I do like the stuff by the door handles also

Re: Birth of a C10
I think your friend has promise though !!

Re: Birth of a C10
Well I sold some items on ebay and made some extra cash to buy some parts! I been wanting to do power dual master brake upgrade from the single pot stock master cylinder for saftey and comfort, but for now I had enough funds to by a 1967 c10 dual master cylinder, fittings , and line to split the lines and later on I can add the booster so I headed to good Ol' Richie's shop to do the swap:
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-33.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/007-32.jpg Was pretty easy to do and somewhere along the line some one already made a adjustable brake pedal push rod so I didnt have to do that, I just had to bench bleed the master bolt it on and split and bend the lines and adjust the rod out: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/015-9.jpg Pretty nice having a friend with all the right tools, Ive always had to pump bleed the brakes , but today was spoiled and got to use the vacuum brake bleeder thingy ma jigger tool that kicked ass!: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/017-4.jpg And After they were bled I added some paint: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/019-5.jpg While I was doing the master cylinder swap Richie resurfaced the front drums: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/013-15.jpg and worked on trying to fix my fuel tank sending unit that the ground strap was corroded off at one end, we temp fixed it to work but is in pretty poor shape but will get me by till i can acquire another unit, and save me having to dip the tank with my bamboo stick all the time: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/021-5.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/024-5.jpg we also installed some new exhaust gaskets at the header collectors to get rid of some exhaust leaks and temporary blocked off the hole in the firewall for the heater blower motor unit untill I can get a new heater core so its not blowing hot air through the hole in the cab.I really stoked to have atleast a dual master now! |
Re: Birth of a C10
If that is for the in-cab tank, I have a stock one that I was working on adapting to my rear mounted fuel tank when I was going to still use the stock guages.
You can have it for the price of sending me a PM with a good mailing address! Pretty cheap eh? Hopefully you can cannibalize it for what you want/need ! |
Re: Birth of a C10
Thank you very much for the very kind offer! Are you sure you dont need it and want to part with it?If so im more then happy to pay for shipping...

Re: Birth of a C10
What are the lengths of the two pre-fitted lines?
Thanks, Steven |
Re: Birth of a C10
I bought one 40" line and one 60" line ,but I still cut a couple inchs off each one and flared them, it was easier for me since they had the fittings already.

Re: Birth of a C10
Well I've been out of town working in the bay area wiring a muti million dollar home for the past week which has been pretty fun since its really the first big job ive done since recovering since my accident besides small jobs,It feels good to be back working since its been a least a year...its a three story house on Mt. Tiburon ,Ca which is over looking San Fransisco bay, heres a picture I took from the second story opening for a french door that will lead out onto a deck, from here you can see Alcatraz island,Angel island,San Fransisco, Golden Gate bridge, etc. the marine layer was in and I didnt get a very clear picture , and it doesnt do it justice and when its clear even a better view on the top floor, but it is a great view to look at eating my lunch, also the house right below us with the dome on it belongs to the famous guitar player Carlos Santana,he has waved up to us a couple times when getting into one his cars :
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nz/sanfran.jpg Anyways back to the truck build ,when i got home today I received my new adjustable trac bar from porter built, since I lowered my truck so much the other shorter adjustable trac aloud my rear end to shift back and forth to much when riding at different ride heights and my tire was rubbing the bed when i drove with the bed lowered, so this new longer trac bar should allow me to ride at any ride height I want and should have minimal side to side moment of the rearend, Tomorrow Ill try and get it installed since im only home for a couple days then back to working out of town: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-55.jpg |
Re: Birth of a C10
Well I got the trac bar installed !! Great quality parts but let down with their customer service it took a month to receive and a number of calls , instead of the 1 to 2 weeks they told me....I had to do a little modification to one of the brackets to make it work with the way i relocated the rear shocks:
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-50.jpg Also I guess you cant use Porterbuilt's trac bar with CPP's bolt on C-Notch unless you cut either the c-notch or the trac-bar mount , luckily for me the shock relocation brackets I made spaced it out so it just overlapped it: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-56.jpg Here it is installed with the truck aired up: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-35.jpg Now Im going to go drive it ! |
Re: Birth of a C10
Was it Cpp that you had trouble with, or Porterbuilt?
|
Re: Birth of a C10
porterbuilt.
Well not much of a updated but this morning I went to a swapmeet and found some truck items of use, I picked up a set of reverse light bezels so when I get the exhaust redone I can run the tips of the exhaust through the bezels out the back of the rear grill I made, and also my buddy with the O.G patina truck I pictured earlier in my thread has a custom cab steering wheel but needed the center horn piece which I found for him, I thank I did pretty good since I picked up the bezels for $3 and the horn center for $10. http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-51.jpg |
Re: Birth of a C10
I sold some parts on ebay and purchased a new sending unit off ebay for $30,I installed it tonight and now the gauge reads a 1/4 tank which I believe is correct from looking at the bamboo dip stick I use, but will see if it works tomorrow when I drive it and fill the truck up...I may try and find a new fuel gauge also just to know its all new and working .....this is my first working gas gauge in any of these trucks ive owned so to me it is pretty exciting!

Re: Birth of a C10
Got to messing around today with the radio! I have 6x9's in the doors but would have to turn the radio up to hear good because the sound gets blocked a little by being so low in the cab an legs in the way and also vibrate the out side door panels alot, So I seen the dual dash replacement speaker's that fit in the stock dash speaker location that LMC and others sell , And figured I can make my own:
First I pulled out the old unit and as you can see it was toast: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/003-42.jpg here you can notice that the stock speaker is low profile to fit under the dash inbetween the wiper motor mount.ash tray, radio so a reg. 6x9 would be hard to fit in there: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-57.jpg Then I went to the local thrift store and bought me a set of speakers for a cheap boom box, for $2.99, they might not be high quality speakers like LMC's unit but figured they would work just fine since for what I was trying to do and if they go out im only out $2.99: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-53.jpg then I cut the old speaker unit off : http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/004-41.jpg Took a no parking aluminum street sign I had and cut out a mounting plate: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/005-46.jpg then mounted the speaker in with glue and used the screw down clamps the speakers came with( broke 1 screw tho): http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-36.jpg Its AMAZING how good it sounds in the cab now and I actually had to fade the sound towards the 6x9'x more and only using 3/4 the volume I was before! now im going for a drive to see how the fuel gauge is working.... IM BUMPIN YO! |
Re: Birth of a C10
cool cheap idea. im diggin your truck. nice find.

Re: Birth of a C10
I did the same thing for my 65 falcon. Works pretty good.

Re: Birth of a C10
nice job..and doing it on the cheap
|
Re: Birth of a C10
man that's a nice job, and in just one year?, i wish i could have gotten that far in the three years ive had mine, but one thing i am adding pretty soon is some rear air bags so question is what is needed to hook them up?, so far im getting two air lift bags not sure what model, and a compressor/tank combo i think was used for air horns, im going to the auto parts store and getting some air lines as soon as i get the bags and tank.... how hard/simple is it to install rear bags without c notch?
|
Re: Birth of a C10
Thanks guys!
Fat Tony! sounds like you have the basics down for the bags already tank, compressor, bags, line it should be pretty easy to install the bags without a c-notch,just remove the rear springs and bolt them in, but I think youll need a spacer/stand inbetween the frame and bag if your not going to c-notch the rear look at this thread : http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...olt+bag+plates or like these which you can probabley get cheap through a vender here in the suspension section of the main board : http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-72-Chev...4b7b73&vxp=mtr and if you just want to raise and lower the rear and not worried about how fast it raises and lowers you can just get 1/4 line and use a manual switch like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airlift-Manu...fb6962&vxp=mtr just have to get fittings and run a line from the tank to the switch and a line from the switch to the bags....no need for solenoid's good luck |
Re: Birth of a C10
Does it necessarily need those brackets or can i bolt it up to the frame without it?
would i need to drill new holes into the frame? around how much would it cost me total for air lines, brackets, fittings, and im no sure but i think i might also be getting one of those switches with the deal i got, its two air lift bags brand new, plus the tank but im not sure how good that tank will work because i think it is mainly for horns around how much is need to raise bags? also would i be able to use the same tank/compressor for bags and also an air horn? or would i need a separate one here is a link to the tank/compressor im getting in the deal: http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/kleinn/6120.htm |
Re: Birth of a C10
i got the bags, but how would i tell which bags i have i see no serial number all the bags say is air lift, i also have the manual paddle switch, and the compressor/tank combo, im not sure if the tank is big enough to completely fill the bags but not to worried seeing as how im mainly going to ride around with the minimum amount of psi required
|
Re: Birth of a C10
man, i just read thru your whole thread....good job....love the creativity and old school theme you kept....looks like all you need now is cupped lca's to drop the front down more...http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=356469

Re: Birth of a C10
That's pretty cool! Can you use cups like that with stock springs to lower it?
I want to keep the stock feel to the ride. Steven |

Not much going on with the truck besides driving it daily, Ive been non stop working since I went back to work , wiring houses, pouring concrete patio, volunteering to help wire a new church that a friend belongs too,and other odd jobs,I just haven't had much spare time to do anything major, but I did get around to installing a new gas gauge so now Its all new sending unit, wire, gauge I NOW CAN SEE HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE!!!!!:two::ele::four: And I figured some new wires and spark plugs was a good idea since its been over a year running the old ones.... Well thats it for now.... http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/035-2.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/033-4.jpg |

Well messing around with the air bags tail dragging I found out I can go over speed bumps just fine, but I can drag the the rear-grill-roll-roll-pan on the ground when theres elevation changes in the road, mostly in the older sections of town on side streets crossing over main streets that have more of a hump rather then the new flat streets...... CLICK TO VIEW tail drag video : http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps11445bca.jpg well the back seam where the roll pan and the bed side meet, dragged on the road and bent the roll pan back.. I took it over to Richies and took my "BFH" and beat it back straight... had him weld the bottom couple inchs of the seam together since this area was already messed up from sometime in the trucks past... http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps49ec195e.jpg I made some scrape plates to spand the seam so it doesnt happen catch and bend back again, and had richie weld them on: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8d41cf96.jpg did a quick job at body filling the creases and molded them on, and low and behold after a day or so messing around scraped the rear again but this time the plates worked and roll pan is fine, eventually when I will rework the whole rear section when I do the whole truck but for now it works: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc01cbb63.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps12d27144.jpg While richie had the welder out had him weld the bottom bar of the seat back thats been broken since I got the truck, much more comfortable now: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0dd3b5be.jpg I also replaced the used camero rear sway bar end links to some new energy suspension links: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps75a829ac.jpg |
Re: Birth of a C10
Did Richie voice any concern about welding so close to the fuel tank?

Not so sure I would weld that close to the tank either, glad that worked out Ok ....... Can you snap a pic when you get those sway bar suspensions mounted? I cannot visualize what those are for. |
