After my accident it dawned on me that if my power tool actually had a guard on it I would have never got injured in the first place, unfortunately the guard broke off and I never replaced it, so the whole thing is actually my fault for not replacing the guard so lesson learned I will be replacing the guard before I use that tool again because without the guard it is potentialy a life threatening tool. |
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
i go through a ton of cut off blades and the Dewalt ones are the only ones that dont just shatter on me ? usually 1.99 apiece

Plus, the way this kicked back the gaurd wouldn't have helped....it only moved a few inches....but that was enough to grab my shirt and suck the tool to my skin as it ate up my shirt.... Quote:
Never had one shatter on me....and these are the hf ones....used a ton w/ no issues Lesson is don't use a 6" wheel on a 4 1/2" grinder....there isn't much area to hold onto the tool and when under a truck holding it at an awkward angle....it's a recipe for disaster... I think I'm going to try a sawzall to finish this cut and the one on top.... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Overall got a decent amount done...
The crossmember is high on priorities but just foundd out the cpp one I paid for on the 24th just shipped so I won't have it till oct 3rd supposedly? Better late than never....as long as it shows up and is complete... The interior painting is complete. Actually started re-assembly. Put down some old, leftover dynamat but it's not sticking great so I'm going to add some adhesive to the looser pieces....put the foam mat backer and rubber mat. I cleaned it up but it still had a brown/grey hue...so I got some trim/bumper paint and sprayed it and it looks like new. Without the one tear in it this thing looks awesome! Also painted the back cab wall and the gas tank semi-gloss black. Yes, it's overkill...but it took less than one can of rustoleum and there were some areas of surface rust on the back cab wall....and since the seat back folds forward....I wanted the gas tank to look good if I folded down the seat. Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Just got home from Jersey. Almost ready to drop in that motor and trans? Did you order a trans crossmember? I'm sure you have a small pile of driveshafts but do you have one you know will fit? How about a battery?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
That light is pretty sweet

It's a big flourescent and wobbles without falling so it's perfect for work areas....also has a plug I can plug any tool into right where the light is so it's ideal... Quote:

I have the driveshaft the po said he used w/ a 350/350 combo as well as another supposedly set up for that and a few more sizes including 2pc if needed... I have a battery....need to make sure it's still good....will put it on the battery charger/conditioner and see. Had my alt checked out before painting it. Have an almost new starter. Planning to pick up antifreeze and trans fluid tomorrow or sun....already have oil... Got my flywheel, torque converter, and fuel pump/rod out ready to go....will finish cleaning gasket areas and bolting last items to the block and checking to make sure I have all the bolts for bolting the brackets to the engine. Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Got my rag joint in yesterday (larger to fit the 73 up box (better turning ratio) I have). My restored van tilt came in today...will check it out tomorrow and take pictures.
Found the harness from my 70. Set up for full gauges and every light/switch worked when I took it out a few months ago...going to clean that up and install tomorrow. Also plan to install the gas tank. Saddle upholstery parts are on order and in production... Trying to decide on manual air valves or accuair elevel. (can get a great deal but still pricey...) Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
I just saw this one, very cool. I think it's my favorite of all your projects. I plan to be in Richmond the next 2 weekends if you need any misc parts. I've been lazy and haven't got rid of any 67 stuff yet.
Did you get a chance to check the ratio on that rear if you still have it? |
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Bye bye crossmember! Those things can be a pain, can't they? Keep up the hard work. You are making great progress. I think we should set up a photo shoot with our "shop trucks" once yours is done.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Still working on pics...but progress today consisted of: removing the clutch pedals, column, and intermediate shaft. Also got the gas tank re-installed and connected other than sending unit wire. Still have to bolt it down and put my NOS filler neck grommet on ;) I emptied the tank being used (from my 70) and no sediment or rust inside
Got the repairs skim coated and will sand and paint tomorrow. Found a rattle can of gloss red paint on my shelf. Test sprayed a spot behind where the bed will be and sanded down witbh 2000 wet/dry (dry) and was pleasantly surprised by the closeness of the color match. Will help in areas I have to cut out sheetmetal...especially the cab corner and lower door on pass side. Drilled out and collapsed another intermediate shaft I had to use with the van tilt. Sprayed my new rag joint and the int. shaft and need to remember to paint one of my ps boxes tomorrow... also painted thepower brake booster brackets. Booster has been painted Posted via Mobile Device |

Good, they worked ;) I used the smallest hole saw I had, then used my copper spoon to fill the hole the center bit makes, put the patch in my vice and ground down to size. Patches came out very well considering I still am using flux core at home.

First pic shows the driver's rocker opened up and rust converter sprayed liberally all inside
Then the second pic is a light skim coat on the driver' s upper channel patch. Posted via Mobile Device |

Here's a picture of the gas tank in place with the fuel line connected (I blew air through the lines first and they were surprisingly clean).
I wouldn't have painted the tank but it had some overspray on it and since my bench tilts forward...I wanted it to look good back there ;) Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Nice job! Things are going quickly. I hope you have some more of those panels. The Old Man may need some of them!
|
Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Thanks, I have a few more of the panels....fit isn't very good but I only use them sparingly and save the leftovers for small patches...
Especially with this being a patina truck I'm trying to cut out as little as possible... Out to work on it some more.... On the way home from Church I bought the rest of the fluids needed to fire up the engine..... that stuff adds up quick....priced it at auto zone and bought for around 20 cheaper at walmart...
