I am pretty sure those are just glued on.
If you hit it with some Goo-Gone and let it set for a day or two, then gentle action with a thin putty knife should do the trick !!

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread

I've heard of guys heating it up with a hot air gun then thread some fishing line in behind the emblem and cut through the adhesive. No prying involved that way.

Truck is coming right along!

Brian

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread

Haven't had a lot of time lately, but have been chugging away at blasting, cleaning and painting parts. Will be placing an order with classic parts, and LMC shortly, will also be ordering up seat belts, fat mat, and AAW wiring harness. Will also be sending frame out to be blasted and painted soon.

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread

cleaning seems to take longer than anything, but its for sure worth it in the end.

I'm months late with a follow up but another tip for future projects - when I use Goo-Gone I scrape with an old nylon Bondo spreader. If you have a few to pick from you can usually find one stiff enough to really scrape but soft enough not to mar the surface. Works for me anyway. Looking forward to any updates.

The past year has been... let's just say entirely not conducive to working on the truck. I have been lurking following most of you guys, mark, mcmurph, bomp, sanity, ta2don, BOMP:metal:, dino, couple of 63's in in NC, chris collins (nice colour combo:smoke:, darrah, cortcomp, cdn rust bucket (killer build), 1bad SUICIDE:metal:, chadwick (congrats on being in the same zip code as your truck), zippeay, Momma Zane (sorry, will send your SS script soon), Alans Classic EPIC, tilly to the rescue, Maggie (wake maggie I.....), jmorales, and several others, have been lurking, living vicariously through all of you. Lurking, learning, planning, and waiting for better weather as life once again allows for me to give the old girl some lovin:waah:

So as to where I am and what is going on...

Frame was cleaned up with wire wheel, sanding discs, and plenty of sweat, then labelled with rust converter (love this stuff!)

Now ready to begin reassembly:metal:

I still have some parts that need to be blasted, primered/painted, dropping off later this week for the first 2 steps, I will brush on the POR15 when I get them back.

Also ordered power steering pump and brackets on ebay, probably overpaid though, oh well, I'm over that, just happy to have that figured out.

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread

bottom line, I am about a week away from having a healthy amount of time to devote to reassembling the suspension, and getting the engine transmission married and set into the frame.

Soooooooo

Cause I'm back
Yes I'm back well I'm back
Yes I'm back
Well I'm back back
Well I'm back in black
Yes I'm back in black
Back in the back of a Cadillac
Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack
Yes I am
In a bang with the gang
They gotta catch me if they want me to hang
Cause I'm back on the track and I'm beatin' the flack
Nobody's gonna get me on another rap
So look at me now I'm just makin' my play
Don't try to push your luck just get out of my way
Cause I'm back

Glad to see your back.
You sure are thorough.
That frame looks great.
Nothing like a bit of an interruption to make one appreciate truck time even more.

A lot going on here for me, we are moving soon (downsizing a bit). I have moved my bed, and all front end sheet metal to a buddy's garage for the time being. Mandate is to have a rolling chassis including the engine transmission by moving day June 6th. The more assembly work I have the less there will be to move. Heading to Princess Auto (equiv to your Harbor Freight her in Canuck Land) for some 3/8 gr8 fasteners, stopping at work to snag some NTA push on fittings for the rear air bags in the morning and then continue on with assembly work. Have the front xmember, and the rear engine mount xmenber installed, PS steering gear box mounted, should have rear suspension settled, and have some progress on the front suspension tomorrow as well.

On another note we sold the little tear drop trailer (cute as hell, but far from practical) and purchased a new trailer. We made the deal last fall, but just picked up the trailer today, the wife is pretty excited to be able to have a pee in the night without trekking to the public restroom... our first adventure is in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Alan, Chaaaawick, Michael, Mark, appreciate you guys looking in. It doesn't look like much, but this is monumental progress for me. I might remind you that although I have had some old cars and trucks in the past, this is the first time I have ever attempted a restoration/rebuild. I plan to pay some attention to the differential this winter, (after close to 50 years it must at least need bearings...), I will make it mechanically sound and pretty.
Rear suspension is a mix of porterbuilt and cpp, porterbuilt stage 1 kit, cpp sawy bar. Just need to install shocks back there.
Feels good to put the wheels back on:metal:

Sorry, don't have much in the way of pictures, and my PS gear box is one I bought from Advance Auto Parts, think there may be specifics on it earlier in my thread. Feel free to contact Captain Fab, he will be pleased to give you all the details you need. The captain is a supporting vendor on this forum his, and his products are excellent. You should have no trouble finding threads related to the PS bracket, as well as his PB booster bracket on the forum.
