Re: 1961 Crew Max
Great to hear your wife is doing ok!
What are you planning for radiator and intercooler? I have seen many use the IC from dodge, mid 90s. /Thomas |
Re: 1961 Crew Max

Today we were able to get the factory d-max motor mounts fited to the frame. They are massive and barely fit between the frame rails. Here are a few parts that I have got my hands on. Astro van hydro boost. 73 k5 blazer seats, cpp 20 gallon tank. More to come soon. CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Didn't the D-Max donor truck have hydroboost?

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looks great, yes looks like we put the motors in the same spot.
I'm actually thinking of moving it 1-2" back to be able to lower it. I actually lifted the cab by an inch for now, so I did not have to cut out the are under the wipers. /Thomas |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Any ideas/concerns for the gas pedal placement?
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
There is a sweat spot where the front of the oil pan will be just in back of the rack and balancer just above it. It will also keep the oil and trans pan above the bottom of the frame rails. The gas pedal will be tricky. Good thing its drive by wire.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Swung by Bruce's the other day. It looks sweet. That engine is massive.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
If you know anyone with a crew for sale please let me know thanks Bruce

Made some progress the last couple weekends. Got the motor mounts finished. Used the factory mounts on the motor and made our own for the frame. Today we started boxing the middle section. Going to build A inner frame stiffener to take out the potential twist of the torque monster D-max. CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice, those mounts look very beefy!
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
This thing is so baddass! Great job Chizzler!

Re: 1961 Crew Max
This is a great build, I'm somewhat local so hopefully I'll see it running around soon!

Re: 1961 Crew Max
As already mentioned, super nice looking work. :metal:
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looks great! I was planning on boxing my frame in similar way.
Did you have time to test fit the Astro Hydro boost before taking the cab and engine of? Really interested.. /Thomas |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Hydro boost has not been test fit yet. Once the cab is back on we will make it fit and rework brake pedal if needed. Your progress looks good.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
awesome progress. That truck is gonna be cool.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looks good Chizzler. That is one looooooong frame.
nice progress Marc |

We were able to get some progress done over the last couple weekends. Built a full inner frame stiffener. Made the trans mount so it will unbolt and drop out from the bottom. Maybe overkill but why not. Replaced drivers rear cab mount and the new part was so bad we would of had to pie cut it three ways so we made our own. More to come. CHIZZLER
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
A bit overkill....hahahha
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Hey,
Did some research on the hydraboost. Maybe you know this, but the hydraboost can be rotated so that the avcumulator will face the driver side instead of against engine. That will probably make it fit! I'll have this tested soon👍 Your frame looks killer! /Thomas |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice job on the frame stiffener.
I feel motivated every time I get an update on this build. |

Little more progress yesterday. Got all the rockers closed up and most of the rust repairs done along the bottom outside area. most likely when the cab goes back on we will cut out most of the inner floor to build a tunnel. We also made a center cab support that will have a new body mount to the frame. It seems like they should have put these in from the beginning. There is 72" from front to back cab mounts. We also kept warm by catching the seat on fire in the cab. Thanks CHIZZLER
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looks good Chizzler. Glad the seat fire didn't get out of hand.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Great work! Do you have to have a high tunnel and use buckets or will you be able to use bench type seats still?

Quick update. Cab is back on to start building tunnel and floor. Started by trimming firewall and making clearance. Had to add A piece at the top edge for the turbo shroud. Next we took a piece and rolled it to fit the new cut out in the firewall. Cut grind cut grind cut grind. Finally fits. Once that was tacked took and made a template out of cardboard for the second piece then transfered to metal. Overall fit is good. Tacked it in. We are trying to leave as much room as we can for pedals. Thanks CHIZZLER
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Having to cut into the firewall and reconfigure the tunnel takes time. Especially to make sure there is plenty of room for the pedals.
Looks clean, nice work. Are you running heavier springs up front for the added weight of the motor and trans? |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
That looks great! That was the biggest hurdle in my Vette. Trying to keep enough room for your feet and pedals.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
awesome build!!

Made it out to the shop yesterday. More tunnel and floor work. Making the tunnel round not square will allow it to be much tighter. I need all the room i can get for pedals. Overall fit is good with the new low back buckets. Plenty of room between for a console. We cut the section of floor out that was added to stretch it and will be building a better floor structure. You can see the turbo down pipe is right at the bottom corner. Going to get a aftermarket pipe and try to cut and turn it to pass over the frame right at the toe board. Its gonna be tight. Thanks CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looks good .

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice work on the transmission tunnel. Are you using a slip roll?
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Good looking tunnel Chizzler. What gauge sheetmetal are you using.
