Was able to get into the shop today for a few hours.
Pics 1&2 show the windshield with paper, and the plastic to cover the firewall and engine. Pics 3&4 show paper on the cowl to cover the plastic. |

Pics 1 &2 shows the orange fine line tape. Mark and I use this at the finish point. After you finish appling paint, you peel the tape off and it leaves a softer line. The two tabs are were you double back the tape, and makes for an easy lift spot.
Pic 3 & 4 I got started on putting the plastic on the interior, will finish up with masking paper tomorrow (I hope)...Jim |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
And non-car people thought all you had to do was put on a new fender.
You and Mark set the bar pretty high. Nice work. |

Jim, they may think they know your truck but I'm betting they haven't experienced it!

OK was able to get back to the shop this afternoon, and finished up covering everything.
Got masking paper on the "A" pillars, across the header, and put on fine line tape. Put masking paper on lower part of door opening, and installed plastic on the back. Ready to start that dreaded sanding again...Jim |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Got any fingerprints left?

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
This is why most people have no idea how much time goes into a custom vehicle that looks like it came from the factory.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
No pics today, but I did get to the shop for a few hours, and dry sanded the entire front cowl with 320 paper, twice. Tomorrow I will start wet sanding with 400 paper...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
jim I painted the firewall on my truck last weekend and it made it abundantly clear to me that I do not have the patience or skill be a painter.
I wish I had come to that realization before I sanded all the original paint off the rest of the truck. the amount of prep for 3 minutes of spraying was staggering. I cant even fathom the amount of work you are doing. keep it up! |

I've always said you don't need to be a great painter, that only takes a few hours total, but the before and after makes the difference. I hope NO ONE takes this the wrong way, I just do the best I can. Mark now does all the painting, and he's good, I'm just the prep, and final sander:lol:;)...Jim |

OK for todays update. When I got home from life getting in the way, Mark had re-masked and taped for paint. I wiped it down with grease and wax remover. Then he did his job of painting, and it came out great. Here's a few pics, I tried to get a good close-up of the cowl, but my camera isn't that good...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Nicely done...to both you and Mark...I agree with the time...I'm no painter but it takes an enormous amount of time for the prep
|
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Marks doing a great job! It will a stand out again and won't be long
|
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
Thanks Guys for the compliments, however I'm just the painter....Dads doing all of the hard work right now with the prep.
The true work is coming up with wetsanding, rubbing and polishing to reveal the final outcome. Mark |
Re: My 50 roadster pickup build
That is just great work. The time and patience put into that truck is to be admired. Great job.
