Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
We should start a "varmits in our projects" thread.
Mine had rats, black widows, a bird's nest and unidentified excrement when I found it. |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
finally took the spare tire out of the back under the truck. I was dreading those rusty bolts, but they came off almost finger tight with some WD-40. Raised the back up about a half inch. when I get the gas tank back there, it will go back down.
Where do you guys keep the jack and handle? I used to wire tie them to the inside of the spare wheel to keep them from rattling. Now they are wire tied to the bolt in spare tire cross member. Also, now I have 4 original wheels for sale, and this one has a new BFG 235/70/15 on it. |
Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
just behind the seat - secured tightly

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
finished installing the sound deadener complete, it was hard getting that stuff into the doors (both sides) and easy doing the the door panel lol, also installed the radio although havent wired it yet.
yesterday I installed the drivers side one piece glass but am NOT happy about how the glass was cut. I am working a deal with a couple glass guys for 4 pcs) 4'x4' dark smoked tempered glass that I think is 5/16" thick but might be 1/4"(not sure yet). Excited about this as it should be enough to do my truck, wifes suburban, and possibly the 39 2 dr sedan. WOO HOO |

Did some prep work on the frame so someone who actually knows what they're doing with a welder can just jump in and do the fix:

Checked into insuring my 52. Classic/ antique coverage
I have the basic, Lability/ uninsured coverage. I was wanting full coverage . But it ain't going to happen. Some companies Limit mileage ( no daily driver) No commuting ( only to and from Shows ) But they all "Want it kept in a Garage" Theft is my main worry Posted via Mobile Device |

Did you try Hagerty? |
Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Hager try is excellent from what I hear and check out AAA. They quoted me 275.00 a yr for 35K coverage but limited to 5K miles a yr in driving

They said it must be Garage kept when not in use. Looking like my agent is right. No one will cover it unless I keep it in a enclosed covered structure when not in use. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I gave up:lol:
Then went back to the transmission cross member that I wasn't going to use. Turned out that it was in about the right spot after all  I just welded a new perch for the transmission mount. I think I will add some gussets tomorrow. |

The rivets didn't give up easily, but finally got the gusset to come out. Easy access now for the frame rail fix...

My old man is going to grab the plates today or tomorrow so that is a relief. Had to get a new bill of sale yesterday so that is situated. I have a little bit of a lean to the driver's side so I need to see what is going on there this weekend and also get a few odds and ends done. Pictures later. |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Looked at the frame on mine where I blew a portin of it out with the water hide and it opened up a hole. I can fix it confirmed that so now the only other questionable spot is just behind the cab and I can get a kit for it.

IF there is good metal on either side AND you want to use it I would be putting in long fish plates, not relying on butt welds or small patches. It would be a shame to put in all the effort to restore the truck only to find your effort compromised the first time you hit a swale, railroad track or parking lot entrance a little too fast and find the frame bent in the middle and the truck dodging into the other traffic lane at speed. It's your truck you can do what you want with it, but if safety is compromised someone else may get hurt. |

The plan after that is to take everything off and restore the whole frame in one shot, as soon as I can find an inexpensive place to do it indoors. No garage here at the house. Kills me to leave the thing outside but there's nothing I can do other than cover it. I've got the cleaned up bed pieces in the basement, but I don't think the frame will fit! Thanks again... |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
flipped the traction bars to try and get a bigger angle on the traction bars to eliminate clutch chatter. Then loaded the bars against the rear so it would control the spring wrap up.
Helped, didn't eliminate it. Still have to check out the motor mounts and the trans mount for security. played with the toe a little. It drives better. |
Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Ok, so my new tie rods and couplers came in at NAPA and I picked them up for installation this coming week. Great find today, while I was browsing around on a jobsite I am working on, I found rolls of 3/8" jute padding not the cheaper stuff either, this is the higher density stuff for homes(its used and flattened a bit) . Perfect timing as my carpet just came in and is lacking full jute padding. I guess I know what my weekend is going to consist of work wise on the truck. :) along with finishing up the wiring and battery box fabrication/ install.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
That sounds SWEET dubie.
I wired the truck today all except the ign. Switch, light switch. Since I was under truck running all my engine wiring I though I would hook up my new vacuum booster S/S line to save the effort since I was already down there and low behold as I pushed the #&$%3+ plug into the vacuum booster, the rubber seal that holds it in falls INSIDE THE BOOSTER. :banghead: I guess now I am going to have to drop the master cylinder and booster and hopefully I can fish it out of there. It really feels like someone doesn't want me to drive this truck :mm: :Own: Well, thats my 2 steps forward and 1 back for the week. My lesson learned was " I need to slow down'' and be patient. |

Weld, grind, plastic on the door holes left over from the one piece window install. Set up a stand for my drill press, no more kneeling to drill!
