I don’t think I got scammed. Actually, I bounced the situation off some buddies. Those of us with more years on the odometer were kinda freaked out. Two guys in their 20’s saw no problem with it. One guy had eliminated last minute price chiseling on something he was selling as the agreed price was in writing.

Short term is to find the refrigerant leak and fix the front / rear ac, then drive and enjoy. Longer term...we are probably going to swap in an LT, some better wheels then look at it for a slight drop. And paint the light blue upper surfaces. This one doesn’t look right with the patina look.

The reactions I am getting from friends and family about this 90 Burb are interesting. Family is so yawn...Doug brought home another one. Brother totally perplexed, even though he is a bit of a car guy. My car buddies get it. When I graduated high school a tri five chevy was 22 to 24 years old. This one is 28 years old.

And our first new Burb was a 90. We loved it and had been looking for a solid one.

although his reasoning is sound, keep it in writing, dont get stabbed!

Yes, he may be. Wow, that guy was an extreme introvert!

It's not a problem if you can admit it. Nice Burb!

Thanks Steven, yes I admit it. :)

Seat mounting...apparently I really dislike seat mounting as this is what I was doing when I stopped. No problem changing engine and transmission mounts 4 or 5 times...as I did on this build. Yet a seat mount stops me cold.

Now if I could just get Marc to come down and fab up the mounts. He knocked his out in a few hours I think.

Locations are laid out already Marc.

If it makes you feel better I failed to notice when I drilled my holes for the front mounts that they just catch the back edge of my "custom" boxed floor brace. Had I known, I could have moved the brace a 1/4" forward and had no issues. I now have made more work for myself.

Nice Burb!! I Had a strange sale in Phoenix AZ when I bought my DD 87' Jimmy. The guy met us in a mall parking lot and didn't want to give his address so we could pick up the truck. He had a loaded Glock hand gun. Then all was good when he found out we where staying in North Scottsdale and lived in Canada. I guess there are no bad people in those places. LOL
Just leave the paint!! It's only original once. Ours has been through 4 Canadian winters still original paint and NO rust.

Well, guess that doesn’t only happen to me. See the location of the front mounts? Yep, right about the edge of one of the boxed floor crossmembers. I just need some relaxed time staring at it to figure out the best solution. Then jump in and do it.

I really don’t like the passenger factory seat mounting and frame. Kinda spindly...

Thanks Lower! Really glad my car buddies get it with the 90 Burb. The carpenters working on my shop stared at it blankly and asked, “What the he** are you going to do with that?”

Wow, that was a weird experience. Of course he came around, good folks from Canada...it is getting more aggravating to buy or sell a vehicle like these due to the fast communication possible today. It was a pita 30 years ago too, just happened at a slower pace.

Nice Jimmy! Going to areas where they don’t salt the roads to find them is amazing when we are use to seeing rust through.

Good point with original paint. My thinking on this one is it is too new to look good with as far gone as the paint is on top. Still a lot of time to think it over before getting to that point.

Doug;

Just a follow up on what I have been doing.
I have stripped the 78 chevy truck down to the frame.
I have built a NEW/Old 84 chevy 3/4 ton truck .
Have been getting metal ready to add to my A-frame to make a 26 ft trolly to pick up bodys with.
I will add new pic to post .
The trip to Dallas was good.

Doug; :mm:

Just looking at the 78 frame, has too much kick up over the axles.
The panel body is setting on a 50 ford pu frame n it is setting level.
So it looks like I'm going to have to Z the two frame together, to get a flat frame for the panel to set on.
To do this set up I will have to go with a 4link set up on the axle.
What I'm not sure is which way to go for shocks.
1 coil over
2 air bags

With coil over I have no ideal how to go about getting the right type.
With the air bags, same thing.
Have ever done anything like this before.
Any help or thought on this would be of great help

Thanks Mike! I suppose there is some “ok” information buried in there with the rest of my yackity yack posts. While I need to get focused and back on it, this time of year there are so many other things to do too.:)

Hi Doug,

It has been along time since I checked in. I was saddened to hear that you wife's cancer had returned, I pray that she recovers quickly.

It is good to see that you have a couple of helpers.

Thanks Richard! It has been challenging and the Lord keeps helping us.

The boys are good helpers! Been practicing their driving on mower, Gator (little one) and Ranger plus bucket truck (big one) under close Grandpa supervision.

LL, thank you for the kind offer! Well, I haven’t done anything yet with the 90 Burb...so many things to do and not enough time.:waah:

Guys, thanks for checking in, staying in touch and especially for the kind thoughts / prayers for my wife. She is my way better half and has been enthusiastically supporting my car passion (addiction) for 40 years.

She can’t get out to the shop much and I want to spend as much time as possible with her, so my heart isn’t in working on this one right now.

Thanks joedoh! A project coming along does have a look that excites me too. Though I gotta say they don’t look like that for very long in your shop!

Yesterday an 81 year old friend of mine stopped by for a visit. He is a retired mechanic and when I was a teen I would hang out at his shop asking a million questions. He asked if I knew anyone who wanted to buy his 78 ElCamino he has owned for 30 years. Always stored inside and rock solid.

I had to stop by his place to check it out. If I wanted an ElCamino, this would be a nice one to get.

Doug,

What a great thread. I have read it all today and to be honest towards the end all I could think about was Cindy, I will be following your thread with great interest as the Burb is awesome but also to pass my thoughts and best wishes to Cindy.

Best wishes from Down Under.

The good thing with working on cars is they sit and wait for you when you have stuff to deal with. Hope your wife feels better soon!

Give Cindy my love.

Although I keep an eye on you on Facebook, I don’t always get the latest news.
I like all the pic with your grandkids! They have fun when the are with you!
