Painted my water pump. Put everything back together. Glad to get that figured out. Ordered my steeering box adapter plate from the caption. Guess I'll work on get my steering done.;) I'm thinking it might be a pain since I pancaked my crossmember. Hope not.

Mounted my gear box. Somthings wrong though because when I drop it down the upper arm hits the linkage.:waah:

Re: Daverods project 66
Did you use an adaptor plate with the newer type steering box?

Can't post picture?? Still learning my droid x:uhmk:

Re: Daverods project 66
I think the problem is because I pancaked my crossmember. It raised my arms up 1 1/2".:waah:
|
Re: Daverods project 66
you might need to add 2 extra joints in the steering now
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Yep, that is why. I didn't stop to think that would be a problem. Is the upper arm hitting the steering shaft hard, or just a little?

Re: Daverods project 66
in other words if you can put a notch in the upper arm or change it to a tubular arm to clear the steering
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Seems to be hitting it hard.:sumo: I have'nt really mounted the steering column. :mm: I really don't want tube arms. I was looking for some pictures of how guys added a couple links. Could find any. I know I've seen some. I think they were for doing R&P though. Not to many people with pancaked stuff. I would say the shaft hits into the arm about 3/4 to an 1".

OK maybe it hit more. It would be a big notch.:smoke:At full up it touches. Last few are full down. Maybe a notch and a link? There does'nt seem to be a lot of room. Maybe zig it over to above the frame then back? or zig it up?

Re: Daverods project 66
Looks like you will have to do something like this. I'm a Borgenson Dealer if you need anything.

Re: Daverods project 66
There only $199 I think for the uppers, powder coated with ball joints for right now.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
those a arms look nice .......... wat you could try is raise the steeringbox using a realy thick and strong adapterplate that bolts intoo the original boldholes of the chassis and has studs to mount the box higher up doing it that way alows you to return to stock if this doesnt work .
it might even correct the steering geometry as you allready raised everything up the chassis that comes after the steeringbox ...... that is as long as the steeringrods and stuff comming of the box still clears the underside of the chassis after the raising |
Re: Daverods project 66
You can use a smaller diameter shaft & gain some clearance. That tube over shaft collapsible arrangement can be swapped for a 3/4" shaft. You'll still have to also raise it up slightly w/a support bearing & some u-joints w/the 1.5" notched x-member.
With my 1 1/8" notched/sectioned/pancaked x-member using OE arms, I cleared w/the smaller dia shaft (standard aftermarket 3/4" DD shaft). It only made contact w/zero air pressure. |
Re: Daverods project 66
I say go with the MMW arms I posted. They will look cool as hell. I have his uppers for my s10.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Their web site doesn't work. Cant you get those arms w/ a stock ball joint?
|
Re: Daverods project 66
give his company a call, And yes you can get them with stock ball joints. He is rebuilding his site so that's why it's messed up.

Got my $hit jack up last night. :metal: Raised everything 1". Everything clears. Well except for the steering shaft. Dont know ? Can I just cut the shaft to make it shorter or does it need splines in the end. The way it is now I don't think I have enough room to move it much.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Hey Dave your idler arm should be the same angle as your pitman arm. Your going to be all jacked up. :uhmk:
|
Re: Daverods project 66
