My '72 has over the wheelhouse 5th wheel mounts I have yet to remove and I've had the truck since '01. At first I wanted to leave them, but decided they are a nuisance over 10 years ago. A lot of bolts to cut but I really need to do that |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Cutoff wheels and skin aren't a good combo . Last year I had one explode on me working on the 72 .went to truck Carlisle with 3 stitches in my left pointer .

Started to do the valve train on the Chevelle . Found one of the studs to be buggered up at the tip and some of the poly locks so tight I had to use a 3/8 inch ratchet and hex socket to back them off ,after this I have lost confidence in this builder. I’ll have to pick one up a new stud Monday .

I’m running out of pallets . Good thing I get these for free they are pressure treated and have 5/4 decking wood on them . I get them from a friend that sells big equipment . But I estimate by measuring that I have over 20 cord split and stacked . With 5 cord split but in piles and 10 in log form to buck cut and split yet . So approximately 35 cord and a friend called this morning last wind storm nocked down 3 big white oaks and a dozen or so ash trees . Some oak cherry and black walnut that’s been sitting in a pile for close to three years . These were at the bottom little pinky on the outside nice and solid inside

I do mill the nice trees but some trees are just not nice enough. On an arborist board I'm on we kid about Highly Valuable Black Walnut . Some is good for milling and some is to twisted or cracked . I wont even try milling a yard tree or roadside always full of nails . |

I "fixed' my wife's Porsche today. Not much of a job. The battery went dead because she never drives it.
So. It was a nice day and I thought I'd put the top down and take it for a spin. One problem. My Thunderbird was parked behind it and that battery was dead on that one too. :dohh: The refrigerator was working just fine. So I called it a day and grabbed a cold one. :hh: I'll fix the other one tomorrow. |

I got back to my barn move a bit today. I laid the block for the connector walls on the "move to" side. Next I'll remove the temporary posts on both sides so the building will be sitting on the connector walls, which are same height as new foundation the buildin will rest on. I'll take as picture tomorrow.
I sure do like to do things the hard way. What have I been thinking trying to move this building by myself? I should just call on some friends |

Converted the 62 Lark from single to dual brakes. System doesn’t need a portioning valve as they designed it to be balanced . Just need to bleed the rest of the system . Bench bleed the master already , I used a master for a 1970 full size GM . Did my research and a lot of Studebaker owners have had good results with this and also the master from a 1968 Mustang . The mustang you need to replace the rod as it’s 1/4 to short. This master is exact so it’s a complete bolt in no mods just need to play the line coming out of the junction to the rear and use a union fitting .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Are you giving up camping? Then let those items go with the camper. If not, you need a mini storage unit. ;)

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
A friend of mine recently bought a motor home for basically pennies (ish) on the dollar because people are turning them in since they cant afford the gas prices. Maybe like the days when muscle cars were cheap because of the gas crisis scare?
|
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
If I could afford an RV I could afford the gas. People always react like this is it, the way it will stay, when fuel prices spike. There is always over reaction. Used car lots will only want good mpg vehicles and trucks and SUVs will drop in price. It happened before, then it went right back to more people than ever buying big trucks and SUVs and the RV market boomed again. The consumer public is so fickle it isn't funny. If things are that bad then maybe someone will buy the travel trailer to live in it!
|
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Gas prices don't affect my motorhome because I never drive it. It's been sitting in the same spot for 2 years now. One of these days I'll take the old girl out camping.

What I am going to do soon as I ready it to sell ,,is use what the dealers are asking for their travel trailers like ours and then drop down under their price .. I should be able to do that considerably and still get more for it than what we paid for it .. we'll see |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
If you cant afford $5 diesel you shouldnt be driving a 400k motorhome. I can see the market decline in low end MH and travel trailers . High end there is a wait for one.

Since it’s snowing out I cleaned and replaced the power cord on a 1950s Mimar Dynafan model “325” that I rescued from the trash last week . Oiled the motor has oil tubes for the bearings and it works great . Low speed not working most likely a resister on the switch . But it really has a lot of power on high and very quiet. Made in Brooklyn NY

Cool or old fan. Name written in a font from the times, well 30s/40s, rather than recreated.

The old metallic green. Cool fan, and you know what I mean... both! I have some old ones and people always comment on how unsafe they are, pre-safety era back when people weren't protected from being stupid . I always say, "Just don't stick your fingers in there when it's running"

Finished fabrication of a new anvil stand a few weeks ago, just been waiting on a cold enough day I could run the corn stove on high long enough to heat the stand up for a final coating. Will get the legs filled with sand today and should be done.
