Just about looks like the stand could be used as an anvil. That thing is stout!

Sand in the legs , hmm, would that be for more weight or does it help absorb the shock ??? or something else .

Excellent job on the stand. Interesting. I'm curious about the sand as well. I have to say, that is one sexy anvil... and I mean that!

Finally, I have something to add. I started to install the power blower and bagging kit onto my JD riding mower. I have to say I hate universal instructions!!! They were written for four different models, and it wasn't made really clear which set went with which mowing deck. A job that should have taken a couple of hours, at best, was an all afternoon job. I also changed the blades and cleaned off all the stuck on grass from the under side of the deck. I bought this mower used last year and I don't think the PO ever did that.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

You got it done and ready for the season now. That's something I need to do soon.

I was spreading mulch and decided to finally repair this section of dry stack stone wall that has been failing for years to where it was collapsed. The whole thing is only a 10'+/- section so I ended up tearing it all down and relaying the whole thing. I have a load of crushed stone for in my cellar. So I laid a bed and backfilled using that, for drainage. Dang chipmunks got in there and displaced the original stone backfill. All done and mulched up! A small victory against the never ending list of things that need done.

Thanks! It may not be as stout as the old oak stump I had been using but this made a world of difference in how my shoulder and elbow feal.

A high quality anvil will usually have a loud ring when hit...and this one rings like a church bell. Problem is it gets to you after awhile...and the neighbors to! The sand in the legs dampens the sound from transferring thru the metal stand, a problem you don't have with oak stumps. And the sand also adds weight which help the stand from moving with a lighter anvil.

It's kinda different than most anvile with the hardy hole up by the horn instead of the tail and no.pritchel hole. It's an 1870s French Rhino, not many French anvils survived WW2, the Germans made sure to destroy all that they came across.

Rob, that is a massive anvil! What are you going to shape? Tank panels? That is cool history on it too. Great work on the stand!

More firewood smallest one of three oaks that came down at my friends place . Did this whole tree today with one saw and a fiskers splitter and had to walk it to the trailer in a wherlbarrow . Ground to muddy to drive on with the truck or the Kubota . Hit what looks like a roofing nail on the last cut . This is why I don’t like yard or roadside trees. But no real damage to the chain so it’s all good . One oak in the trailer ready to stack .

I stopped counting the wheelbarrow loads at 25 and was just shy of half full on the trailer

Adding in the wheelbarrow ride is a huge element. A job in itself. Been there done that. Not so easy in the soft stuff either. There are tops I can have at a friend's place who had it logged. It's all back in the woods w/o vehicle access.

I moved things around in my woodshed to make better use of the space. I have things stored on one side and other things were mixed in on the firewood side. It bugged me but wasn't a priority. I fixed it yesterday. Doing piddley things catching up on the yard from over winter while messing a bit with my "barn move". I got mulch all spread and got to use the 12t bottle jack I ended up buying at HF. It works as hoped. It handles jacking up a single point to make adjustments at the supports. I haven't removed the temporary support posts yet, too allow the building to sit on the temp connector walls I built. Next will be cross supports straight across post to post/over the connector walls. The posts are 4x4 and the cross beams will be 2x8s on either side of the post with 4x4 between. These will be flush with the bottom of the wall plates, and will roll on the pipe.

These 'move from' connector walls have been done a while. I poured the concrete on the other side a few weeks ago and have all but one 'move to' connector walls done over there now. No picture yet. The cross beams will be at the posts/connector walls

... A couple threads and or thoughts on this website inspired me to actually be productive today. so, my Son started helping me at 830 and we filled my truck box full of stuff I did not want any more. that stuff unloaded so fast at the land fill it was fun to throw it out of the box. 8$ dump fee, then I gave him 45 bucks and a half roll of Duct tape for wages. he said thanks and I had him home in time for track practice around noon. and we talked A Lot of shop today.

then I went and spent about 1700$ on a new bed. free delivery and set-up. good thing I have a can of scented Air freshener, details are important. :).

less is more sometimes.

$8 dollar dump fee is cheap! I just took a trailer load of green waste
(7'W x 10'L x 3'H)that they grind up into gardening compost and sell the to the county, city and local landscapers....$35 Smackaroos! And they wonder why people dump all their garbage on the side of the road.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I remember not so long ago when yard waste disposal was free, and so was taking the mulch. My county landfill has a minimum/car load rate of $7. I need to clear out some unwanted things as well. I need a flea market. There used to be the best one at Harpers Ferry, WVA. It got ruined by a snobby historic group who bought the property to shut it down. The flea market drew more tourism than that minor Civil War battlefield ever will.

FleetsidePaul 04-03-2022 08:49 AM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

The disposal site is still free up here. I was really surprised because when I lived down south it was expensive to go to the dump. There are also certain days that you can burn trash.

I guess that they figure people will just dump their trash in the desert if they charged. Which is probably true.

I have curbside pickup. It's kind of expensive but I'm too lazy to go the the dump.

It's an odd thing and I don't know why it's happening. It happens to me in certain, long running, threads. It's been said it is me double tapping a sensitive pad on my laptop. But I know that isn't it. It only happens in the long running threads and on those threads it takes forever for my comment to post. I mean like a whole minute before it posts. It's not always a duplicate post, but takes forever to post.

I have curbside, too. I only go to the landfill to dump big stuff. I get rid of a lot through curbside, which is an "unlimited" account. It is fairly expensive. More than other contractors, but mine has never refused to load anything

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I think it is a well run land fill. awhile back a Spring Clean event got started where home owners can place unwanted misc. by curb and City picks it up. that is well run too, payloaders and dumptrucks can get stuff done quick. not as many couches, matresses and old window ac units in the diches as people use to see. Area has a Christmas tree and yard waste site for people to use too. The old Burnin Barrel days are passing us by.:)

Boog 04-03-2022 09:54 AM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Our city pickup is a bit contrary. It doesn't matter if we have our stuff properly placed at the roadside and one of the city trucks drives by it 4 times a day with an empty truck, they will not stop and pick it up unless we call first and request it. And they pick through the pile to only pick up certain things. That pickup is no charge but what's left we have to take to a county land fill or recycler. The last small bit of debri I took to the trash transfer station cost me over $50. I'll not do that again.

special-K 04-03-2022 10:33 AM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I had two TVs in perfect working order but older than Goodwill or anyone accepted. I heard about Best Buy taking them for recycling. Ran up there with them and found out they charge $25@. Can't give them away, not paying $50 to recycle, so they went to the dump for $7.

I hear about trash collectors picking through and refusing some trash. That's pretty bad when your trash isn't even good enough . I would hate that. I think mine doesn't care because my county is pretty lax on regs compared to surrounding counties. The other landfills are like going to Ft Knox. Ours they don't even ask for ID. Just pull on the scale, if they can't see it they ask what you have, empty it out, weigh out/pay. If it's not much they just get your $7 going in and no weigh out

Steeveedee 04-03-2022 11:42 AM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

They're not that picky, here. If it's in the trash barrel it goes. It's about $50 a month, I think. We personally have two barrels for recycling paper and metal, and two for green waste. I think that the green and gray ones are free, because they make money on the contents. California is now instituting more green waste collection, by having us put our vegetable and fruit waste in the green barrel. Makes sense, but they'll never get rich on mine, as I'm careful not to buy too much and just have it spoil. So, they get apple cores and banana peels and leaves off the cauliflower. Stuff like that. We got six yards of shredded trees to put in our front yard when we went to a drought-tolerant landscape. That was free, they just dump it in your driveway. That is different from the yard waste that we put in the green barrels.

It is $10 each for TV's and computer stuff here. You can't put any electronics stuff in with the trash load or they will fine you. Also, if your load is not covered with a tied down tarp they won't let you into the transfer station.

Heh, we put an old TV out front of my MiL's house. Nobody would take it, but someone cut the power cord off. Pretty cheeky! We ended up taking it to the waste management company's office and they had us put it in a bin they had. Free.

Repurposed one of the drop-down shelves from my old grill...I have my two-burner griddle on top of a Husky toolbox so I would have good storage and hide the propane tank. Not much work area though.

The bottom was about to burn out of my 10-year-old grill. So, I replaced it with a similar Charbroil. I removed the old drop-down shelves and placed one of them on the Husky. Now I have additional work space that drops out of the way when not in use.

The black and stainless grill is the new one with the shelves down.

Naturally, I kept the other shelf in case I find a use for it...in 10 or 20 years.

I wish I knew how to flip these pics right way up. Sorry about the bad angle.

I pulled in my driveway today. There was something lying there. That's not unusual, it's windy here and stuff always blows into the driveway. I just pulled in and didn't give it a second thought. But I did go look after I parked.

It turns out that it was my wife's $6000 Rolex watch. She doesn't know how it got there or at least that's her story.

Needless to say I wasn't happy. But just by dumb luck I didn't run it over.
