Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Sadly nothing today...but I did get to do quite a bit of research into doing a disc brake conversion for my 66, as well as compile a list of parts I need to order. I'm going to pick up my donor parts from my storage unit tomorrow, break them apart, and start cleaning them up.

the good idea fairy also paid me a visit today...and I figured out how I can have a bed mounted tool box in a stepside bed. The bed is 50" wide and I found a metal box that is 48" wide. Is it ghetto...yeah kinda...but hey I need storage for my tools and it'll be a lot tougher for someone to break into this than a plastic locking tote box.

http://images.lowes.com/product/conv...67112961lg.jpg

They make a 36" one too that's about half as small...but it's so small I can't see a good use for it after I'm done with it. The 48" one I can at least use as a secure storage cabinet for my ammo, gunpowder, and primers as well as my many misc gun parts, parts guns, and stuff from when I had my own gunsmithing business.

worst case it'll become my zombie apocalypse safe box kinda like this http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.htm...=304121&page=1

Page 4 of that thread has the plastic locking tote I was thinking about getting. They're similar to the tuff boxes we get for deployments...they're not that "tough". And it's a lot easier to break through plastic than metal

jbgroby that paint is beautiful!

I got my 3rd brake light installed and installed my seat brackets and seats for what I truly hope is the last time for quite a while.

See post #39 of this link for more data on the 3rd brake light: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=437302&page=2

Started taking everything loose in preperation to pull the engine. About the only thing left is the hood, fuel line, trans cooler line, headers & distributer. I work slow so this ought to be done in another year...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Ended up having to go into work for a few hours. My plan was to watch the end of the 24 hours at Daytona race and nurse my hangover, but no such luck. Still, got some stuff done.
-Replaced the blower motor for the heater
-Finished mounting the 3-point retractable belts on the driver side
-Replaced the fuel filler hose. Finally, I can fill it up all the way. Why did I put up with that for 15 years?
-Started replacing the felt strips/rattle strips on the driver's side. Stopped by the rain, had to stick a wood shim in there to keep the window up for the night.
And, finally got off my a@# and cleaned up the garage a bit.

*If anyone's looking for parts, I have the stock 6-lug wheels, drums, spindles, master cylinder, and stock height springs I'd like to offload, just PM me.

Strange trans hump. Never seen that before. I remember those days, it did not seem so long ago that I was right where you are. You exicted yet? OH and how many hours have you are going to spend dreaming on all the goodie's you're going to do.

patched up some holes in the cab, gas inlet and filled some holes under the dash, got to cut out the PO hammer work for HEI clearance next, the cab had those two holes at the bottom that I have seen on these trucks for the dealer installed air, planning on putting in AC vents in the ashtray area sorta like the OE version but will make my own.

Tinkered a little after work and bent the trans cooler lines and the fuel line to the carberator.

I really like the custom filler panel on the cowl. I've never seen that done before. Nice work.

You mean to say you have not seem my pictures before. I am in the process of running the wires right now. They exit the cab from the old gas pedal hole. I am going with a cable instead of the rod.

Made progress on Frankenstein fender (making one good one from best - rust free - parts of 2) - now ready to weld together!
The last pic shows brace/mount of old original (note custom p.o. screw repair at top)

I know I’ve seen that photo for sure, but since it’s all smoothed off and painted I never noticed the missing plate. I really like the look, I think I’ll do it to mine when I pull the engine for replacement and detailing of the engine compartment.

gathering up parts, material for the weekend. The no fun part, but necessary. Nothing worse than a trip to the parts store in the middle of trying to make progress.

Too cold around here lately to do any work on the truck. This year my focus will be on the floorboards, rockers, seat and window/door seals and gaskets.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Fabricated and installed some custom upper rear shock brackets. A bolt in deal that uses the stock bracket rivet holes. These move the top of the shock back about 4 inches and thus makes the shock about 18 degrees off vertical. Needed because I have 5" drop springs.

I posted a step-by-step procedure with pictures and a drawing... see post #59 of my build thread.

Pulled the carb parts out of the carb cleaner bucket and rebuilt it. I'm surprised it ran before... float must have been dragging on the bottom of the bowl and the metering rod was unhooked from the pump plunger rod...

Inlet is partially stripped. If it leaks, I'll find a Rochester mono...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Finished installing the three point retractable seat belts, cleaned up some more wiring, got my heater working (with two speeds now!) and got all the new window felts put in...starting to get pretty close to civilized!!! Also pulled the clutch pedal and z-bar out. Next up, a stereo to take care of the rest of the rattles and squeaks, still waiting for the new lock set to come in from ECE. Still have to get the rear axles drilled to 5x5, find a power steering setup, decide what to do about A/C, and install the rear discs. Whew. And i finally got around to test fitting the hitch reciever from uhaul. Should work fine. This things never gonna be done!!

they sell a repair fitting for that, its a bit longer and will fix the leak if there is one

Messed around with my throttle linkage a little bit. Having a bit of a brain fart, is the pedal assembly different in a 62 than it would be in a 66? I put a 250 where the 235 was.
