It would be bad for someone to benefit off of my work, but I'm going to do everything I can to avoid that. Still no answer from emails or phone calls, but they can't avoid me forever. I think it is a tactic most insurance companies use, it just doesn't seem like it should be my insurance company using it on me!!!!!

Finally!!!! Talked with the adjuster because I called from a number they have not seen from me. I was told that my claim was going through a second review because the estimator could only find custom frames that cost about $30k, BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! He said it was tough for management to swallow that pill. Welcome to the custom world boyz!!! He said that I should get a call later today or possibly on Monday after they finish the review but he also said that it would be totalled. It's good to know, but it still hurts to hear those words about my prized posession. On to my next prized posession!!!

I'm with American Collector . I'm watching to see how this turns out . I thought that the agreed upon $$$ figure you paid in coverage would be the amount you would be paid if vehicle was totaled without issues . I'm my opinion I think Slick is totaled and I hope you get the 40k .

I am watching how this comes out... I am with Hagerty right now But am not at all happy with the way the underwriter has Valued my truck... I am looking for another "Agreed Value" company that actually has some sense...

Dan, we're with Chrome... seems pretty good so far.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window

I am with Chrome as well. That IS American National. Only issue I have with them is they keep raising rates $20-$30 a year to "cover their costs" according to my agent and that is with no policy changes or claims. My last insurance went down a bit every year with no claims.

Hope this works out for you, all my car together are not worth your $40k but I may call my agent and bug him anyway about this. I would think they would do what they can to keep collectors happy because it is a real gold mine for them. We pay in on cars and trucks that see a lot less road than any other and they have to be garaged so I would think the claims percentage is much lower.

Heck a $80k 2015 Vette would fall under standard insurance and much more chance of a gold chainer wrapping that around a pole.

Good Luck and I agree with getting the quotes on your own and submitting them. The rest is waiting.

5 days later, threatening to do a formal complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance and talking to the Director of the insurance company I had a call within one hour. They said "this is the total amount, and where do I send a wrecker to pick the truck up at?" ummmmmmmmm, no. I told them from day one that I wanted to have the option to buy it back!!!! I am currently waiting for a return call from the Director so I can raise cane about this too. Probably after the fiasco they have put me through I can get it back cheap.

LESSONS LEARNED!!!
If you are in the situation to buy back a vehicle, here is how it works. (At least in this case.)
The vehicle is put on the internet for auction and bids are placed. The insurance company takes the highest bid and calls the owner of said vehicle to see if they will match it.
No fancy calculation, no mathmatical equation, just simple auction.

Just Got The Call!!!!!

I bought it back for $3348!!!!!:metal:

Yes! After talking with the Director (Head of the Insurance Claims Dept.) it went super fast!!!! They put it in auction and actually told me that they rushed it through (to keep my buyback low) and that was the top bid before they pulled it from the auction. I did get my full amount and reimbersables as well, such as tow fees and registration for a show in February. Glad that's over....:smoke:

Probably Copart. Glad you got the number you needed. Now, what's good and what's trash? You going Shorty this time? Most importantly, did the bicycle survive?

I think the cab can be pulled on a frame machine, it's just a little off. Front clip is trash, bed and tailgate are good. Engine turns over, bet she'll run. Trans is questionable right now. Everything else is good! Short bed next for sure, not sure of the year just yet but big back window swb!!!! And yes, the bike did fine! I'll take some photos of the teardown tomorrow. Should be able to have disassembly done in a day.

Hey bud!! It's one of those unfortunate things. I'll find another truck and start playing again. Slick will live on in other trucks, but the cab might be a good starting point for me to use on another project!!:metal:

Holy COW!!! That ole truck took one heck of a hit! You're lucky you were in that old iron instead of one of these modern little plastic cars...you'd be tomato paste. Glad you didn't get hurt to badly!

Thanks Ed! Yes sir, it was a hard hit. My truck moved about 1 ft to the side, the whole rear of his car was off the ground about a foot. The cop said it looked like he hit a brick wall.

Nice progress on the tear down. It's a wonder you didn't get significant injuries. Your truck took a hell of a shot. Looking forward to re assembly pics.

Yep, it was a hard hit for sure. Slick won't be rebuilt tho. That just means a new build thread!!!

I'm glad everything turned out ok for you . I'm really not sure but I think ride safely (one word ) or ride safe was an insurance auction site . I haven't looked at it in years so I'm not sure .

So what is the plan?

I think you mentioned buying another shortbed truck? Sell all the panels and keep the drivetrain/interior for next truck, or keep everything and wait and see what the next truck is like?

Since mine is LWB I was wanting to do a SWB, things are changing daily with choices. So far I have not found anything that has peaked my interest. I am waiting for the right one to pop up. It might be a truck.......I'll just leave it at that. As for the parts, they may be reused on my next project, but we'll have to wait and see. But the wait is killin me. :bomb:

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window

Glad everything worked out with the insurance company. I had Grundy when I wrecked mine. Mine was only valued at $17k, but the process was pretty smooth. They sent an independent adjuster out who looked at my truck in our garage. Shortly after, they told me it was going to be a total and that I would have to pay $1400 to retain the salvage. I thought that was a steal considering I had just spent $3000 putting a new Tremec transmission in it that year. I had full payment around a month later. No major hassles. I will be following along to see what you do next!

Nice progress on the tear down. You looking for a 67 specifically? Or 67-68? I can keep an eye out up here.
