Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Slowly getting the 69 GMC K/1500 tore apart to get it down to a bare frame then replace back half of frame and fix everything thats wrong and get it painted and ready for my 72 Cab and the bed and front end and 327 out of my 67. It's amazing what you can come up with when you have alot of parts and no money!

I installed a brake booster, seat belts, accelerator pedal, seat, radio delete. Then when connecting the battery, horn starts blowing. Starting to take the steering area apart.

The whole parking outside with the truck is bugging me so I picked up a truck cover today. Can't afford a garage this year but it's coming.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Refitted my fuel pipes to the carb along with my shiny new billet specialities fuel filter to replace the fire hazard glass one I fitted a few years back. I then took the water-pump off, cleaned it up, degreased it, and now its ready for a coat of POR15 Chevy orange paint tomorrow, I also cleaned up the front of the engine and may well paint that too whilst I have access, not the ideal way to do it piecemeal but it's going to be a while before the engine ever gets pulled out to paint it properly and frankly at the moment its damnned ugly. The chrome timing chain cover seems to be missing a couple of bolts that I need to find from somewhere and it need s a bit of de-rusting and a polish to make it look half reasonable. I picked out a spot to mount the derale electric fan controller I bought and realised I need to get a 1/2" NPt to 3/8" NPT reducer to fit the sender into the intake.
Tomorrow I shall be pulling the radiator out to clean it up and paint it, removing the small bodged on electric fan to replace it with a proper aluminium shroud (which I still need to make) and big electric fan from a Volvo T5. Then it all needs wiring up. After that I might just be ready to fill up all the fluids and fire her up! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I have a buddy that just built a new engine for his car and wanted me to rebuild his 600 holley for him. So after I got it rebuilt I pulled the carb off my mine and put his on there to make sure there was not going to be a issue when he fired his up to break in the cam and have to shut it down. It ran great on my truck.....well to good. It ran better then my carb does :(

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
finally bumped the timing up to 13... and wow what a difference in smoothness and sound of the motor.... I like it. Also measured for the stereo and speakers. Readjusted the idle fuel mixture too...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Took out the bench seat and installed 3 point seat belts. Got the belts from LMC - "instructions" were pathetic. Belts were universal and not made specifically for my truck. Kinda pissed because I think I paid a lot for them ($180 for the pair).
Going to bring the seat to get reupholstered in the next week or so. The original anchor bolts had some kind of thread locker on them and wouldn't come off, even with a 650 ft/lb impact wrench. Had to use a 30" breaker bar and a lot of brute force. This little job ended up taking about 5 hours! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Today I have the exhaust tied in from the headers. No longer uncapped!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
put some trim on the tailight area and the tailgate also polished it with mothers and a polishing wheel on electric motor on bench

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Cam, intake, heads, carb, radiator, electric fans, HEI, 130 amp alternator, trans service, and rear end service. Will do cam break in tomorrow when the neighbors aren't sleeping. All in all it was a productive day. I wish I could have done the break in, but I broke my balancer removal/install tool and ended up having to buy a crappy removal tool from amateur zone, and run all over town to find a 7/16 - 20 bolt with enough thread to make a make shift install tool. which cost me a couple of hours of daylight. Sometimes I miss having a shop, especially on days like today. A lift would have saved me at least 2-3 hours.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Changed out the fuel pump, trying to solve the problem of hard starts when it sits for a week. The fuel line up to the carb was dry when I took it off!! Still cranked on it for 15 sec. until it started, hoping it was because it was a new pump, we will see in a few days. Also adjusted the timing and carb. Seems to run a little better after it warms up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Test fit my custom brackets for my D60 front axle upgrade... Here are the brackets, cut on the waterjet, out of 5/16" plate. No clearance issues and everything lines up great. Still need the RH caliper for alignment then they can be TIG'd... I was thinking of making a jig to hold the pieces to be welded....
and because everyone loves pictures.... Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Attempted version 2.0 of the truck cover. Apparently my truck cover doesn't like really strong wind and tried to hide under the truck, not on top of the truck, lol. I installed some grommets and added a few bungy cords and will see what happens in the next few days.
Time to get it detailed for the car show coming up this weekend. Posted via Mobile Device |

Well Tomorrow.......
Taking it in to get my Lokar Gas/Brake & E Brake Pedals (and covers) installed, along with a Gas Tank Carpet Kit, and LED Back-Up lights. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got my Resealed, painted Dana 60 in, runs quieter with 3:54 vs 4:56 and good pinion bearings. Also mounted my in bed spare tire carrier. Fits nice, no tire rolling around anymore. Bought from board member. Opened up my spare guage console to see how was going to modify for electronic speedo for the 5.3. Closed it back up until I have S10 console on table too. Not truck related, but repaired carbon fibre Spoileron for my hangglider that was damaged by hailstorm. My other hobby.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
This afternoon the front of the engine will be getting its third and final coat of POR15 orange engine paint. The waterpump has already had three coats. Its a bit of a ghetto job as I've only painted the front of the block/heads at the moment but it sure as hell looks a lot better than the previous mix of bare metal, rust, black paint and flaking chalky orange. I have a feeling judging by the overspray I found that the previous owner pretty much opened the bonnet and fired a spraycan over all the existing crud with little or no prep. I may also rub down the remaining paint on the waterpump pulley and get some primer on it.

Today, I finished painting the inside of the front clip. I got one of the new (junkyard) inners on. What a PIA!!!!
Got home and a box full of door panel parts showed up. A gift from the "Little Woman". She loves me...for some reason. Also, she wanted to fire me up, as the 1955 Olds is going to be picked up on Saturday. She loves the truck. And she'll love it more when it's on the road. So, no tinkering with the Olds until...... http://tinyurl.com/3vbvyok |

Okay...This thread seems to be turning into a build thread. I apologize. But I love the thread for other reasons.....
Today, I almost killed myself putting the other inner on (pass side). Even though I used stock parts, I guess after all the years, each truck develops it's own geometry. I was by myself today in the 97 degree heat rolling around outside the shop where I have the front clip on saw horses. Not a pretty sight. I came home and slept for three hours. Tip: When installing new/repop/used inners, if you see you need a couple of new body clips....Don't think you can get to 'em (at least "easily") *after* you've started the front and rear bolts. Speaking of not fitting, I bought $350 worth of **** for the door panels from LMC. They shorted me three eschoens (sp.) , the rubber deals that keep the handles from rubbing on the door panels). And, because of the drilling and refitting, etc. I only got one of the two done. But I think it came out okay. Here's a couple of shots. |
