I changed the upper radiator hose to the stock/correct metal hose on the 70 SWB 4X4 and started getting it spiffed up for a show on Sunday. It really is the only show I go to all season as it is only a few miles away.

Okay...This thread seems to be turning into a build thread. I apologize. But I love the thread for other reasons.....

Today, I almost killed myself putting the other inner on (pass side). Even though I used stock parts, I guess after all the years, each truck develops it's own geometry.
I was by myself today in the 97 degree heat rolling around outside the shop where I have the front clip on saw horses. Not a pretty sight. I came home and slept for three hours.

Tip: When installing new/repop/used inners, if you see you need a couple of new body clips....Don't think you can get to 'em (at least "easily")
*after* you've started the front and rear bolts.

Speaking of not fitting, I bought $350 worth of **** for the door panels from LMC. They shorted me three eschoens (sp.) , the rubber deals that keep the handles
from rubbing on the door panels). And, because of the drilling and refitting, etc. I only got one of the two done. But I think it came out okay.

Here's a couple of shots.

If you do decide to post your whole build here then so be it... keep the pictures coming!!!! We love it!!!:metal:

Just about killed myself doing it, however, I finally got the first coat of primer on my cab. Was a half a gallon of primer for the first coat on the cab too much?

Whats the story on "just about killed myself". Maybe somebody elses learning experience will save me, I'm about to do this myself. Jim.

The "just about killed myself" refers to: I set a goal to have my cab in primer this weekend, I set that goal on Friday night after I got home from work. I still had some sanding left to do, door jams and surface rust from having exposed metal for too long, so I had to re-sand pretty much the entire cab, inside and out. I'm not as young as I used to be (my wife says I'm still an 8 year old because of my sense of humor) but the older guy got it done in one long day, hence the almost killed myself.

Decided I'd waited long enough for cooler weather so I went ahead and spruced up my gauge cluster. I bought a new bezed from Classic Parts and some orange paint a while back. But between not knowing how big of a job it would be and the oppressive heat that won't seem to go away, I'd been putting it off.

Anyway, I got bored on Saturday and decided to pull the ride into the garage and go to work. First, this is not a big nor difficult job. It took only about 10 minutes to get the dash out of the truck. I did the rest on my workbench with a fan blowing on me.

The cluster comes apart with about 8 screws. First, I painted the pointers on the gauges with bright orange paint that I bought at Hobby Lobby and resprayed the light green reflective side.

Next I wiped down the gauges with a little Windex and a microfiber towel, cleaned the lens real good with Windex and put everything back together. I replaced a few burned out bulbs and put it back in the truck.

All total, including drying time (not very long considering the heat) and a trip to the parts store, it didn't take more than a couple hours.

I think the results make it well worth it.

My son and I started really working on the truck this weekend. Swapped out the driver side fender, pulled the front bumper and grille, pulled off the old hood, sanded down the cab and sprayed on some self etching primer. Going to do a down and dirty paint job in the next couple months, so we are busting butt trying to get it ready to take to the paint booth!

Mine was in the Body Shop from Mid October until Mid January.
Had a 2 day time frame to get it home and in the Garage before we go 5 straight days of Snow.

Opposed to where we live now, is currently 113 Degrees with a Low of 87 Tonight.

It was 116 earlier today (around 2pm) out here in the Palm Springs Area.
Down to 112 now.
The Weatherman is talking about a "Cool Down" this weekend.
Temps are Forcast to be in the 104-105 Range.
This is our 1st Summer in this area.
Now I can see why people wait for the "Winter Months" (Nov-April) to do things.
Our average rainfall is 5" per year.:uhmk:

I put a window ac in my garage and for the first time in a month didn't brake a sweat working on my truck today. It was 114 outside. Trying to figure out how my AC is going to work with a 2005 5.3 AC compressor and the 68 condensor and evap. I've got the Docs blocks adapters on and they fit. Have to figure out what Accumulator and orifce tube to use. Mostly scratched my head and remove old expansion valve and POV valve.

I'm with eagleuh1. I live just a little ways from ft. smith AR and the bank showed 113, so I stayed in my garage and built a switch panel and gauge cluster.

Here is a new style evap and accumulator that fits the original a/c case

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Thanks for the link. I'm planning on just going to the yard and cutting off the fitting at the accumulator on the firewall and getting the section of tube and hose with the orifice tube in it. Will also have the service ports and switches and accumulator. I'll braze these in and get hose and fittings to finish from Docs Blcks. They have their headquarters down the road. Then just suck a vacuum for a couple hours and charge it up. I've already flushed the evap and condensor. Just will blow everything else out before installing. Thanks again. Jim
