Re: Daverods project 66
Dave, if I was closer I would take that frame/trailer off your hands. I could use it for one of my project ideas...I just don't have the time (or the gas money) to drive up there and get it...
When do you expect the parts from Zack? How much was the shipping on that stuff? |
Re: Daverods project 66
Zack where are u?:uhmk: I'm thinking shipping might have been a lot? To ship a cab from Texas was about 800.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Dave I'm still waiting for a shipping quote. Should have it tomorrow. My shipping guy was super busy last week. He said he will have something probably tomorrow. Sorry for the delay

Re: Daverods project 66
Now your gonna have to paint that thing. I loved the patina it had. R.I.P. Patina!

Re: Daverods project 66
Funny thing is is that it was all painted. I fixed both fenders, so they were painted. The bed was crushed on on side and it was painted. I fixed the tailgate with parts from my orange 66. On the other side of the bed I fixed the stake pockets so it was mostly painted. The drivers door and both rockers were also painted. The hood and passanger door were the only thing I did'nt touch. I was getting to the door it still needed alittle work. I'm gettin good at fakin it. On my 52 I painted two fenders and part of the cab you cant even tell the difference. brown, black, gray, color and little overspray of white. Rub till done.

Re: Daverods project 66
Checked on a price to get my grill chromed. 600 I about $hit. Does that seem right I can get a chrome one online for about 300. Think I'll just keep the painted one for now, it's kinda rusty and has that used look. Started to put the 64 back together. Got my radiatior put in. Had to make some different brackets because its shorter than the old one. Messed around with one of my fenders, might be able to bang it back into shape. :mm:
|
Re: Daverods project 66
It's probably much better chrome, but not worth 600 smackers. Maybe Powder coat it.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
The chrome ones you buy are probably single dipped, and they probably quoted you to have it tripple dipped.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Due to the E.P.A. chrome shops have all but disappeared across the country, if you are going to chrome anything I would suggest that you really shop around. I have never used them but then again it has been 20 years since I have had anything chromed but it seem Advanced plating somewhere in Texas I believe is the name that I most often hear at shows. I have also heard in order to make it worth wile you have to save and send everything you want done at once if you do it a piece or two at a time you end up nickel and diming your self to death. Of course this will all change buy the time I am ready LOL.

Re: Daverods project 66
Oh BTW every REPOP chrome part that I have put on my 56 that have not yet seen the light of day yet has little rust pits coming through. Cheap China chome:cuss:

I sent every chrome part I bought back to the vendor because it was second rate thin pot metal junk...:hh: 56taskforce is right, I took in every part I could find on my truck that needed rechroming and the total was a little more than the quote for just stripping, straightening and chroming my stock front bumper. Bulk price is the better price guys. At least that is what I found. :metal: |
Re: Daverods project 66
Where I work we've had lots of bad chrome from China and Taiwan. What we've had to do is specify that it must be Nickel and then Chrome plated because they will leave out that process which ends up looking very bad, and rusts easy.:banghead:

Re: Daverods project 66
Where can we buy quality chrome bumpers here in the US?

I have ordered 4 bumpers total for my 66 (front bumpers) and all were flimsy garbage. The best bumper I have is a rechromed painted bumper that was near perfect when I took it to the platers. I am only short a good rear bumper for both my 63 and 66... |
Re: Daverods project 66
This is sad that there are not more places that offer quality chrome anymore.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
All the parts that have started to rust on me looked to be of good quality when I first got them but after 3 to 4 years they now have a rough rust texture that will not polish out and they have never been out in the weather as the truck is not even finished yet.
Just doesn’t seem right when the rechromed bumpers off my old Chevelle have been laying out in the weather longer and still look new. |

Got my ebay radiatior mounted. I needed a new one anyways. Put on my inner fenders from my 66 . Beat my hood into submission and sprayed on some fake patinia. I noticed my fan was bent alittle I just bent it back. Think it will be ok or does it need to be perfect? It's not to bad I'm just sure it's not the same as the other blades.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Happy Memorial day to all you old Veterans:flag: Thanks again.
If the fan is out of balance it will wear out the bearings in the water pump early. If it comes apart, you don't want it stuffed into your radiator. If it's just bent out shape a little, pull the fan belt, bolt it up and just spin and watch, adjusting the bent blade until it aligns up again. Measure and compare all the blades at the same location -one at a time as you rotate things around. If that blade is bent to a flatter pitch, you better change it . Junk yard trip!! :chevy: |
Re: Daverods project 66
Great minds must think alike Bubba....and so do ours!
I thought I could run a fan in my old nova that I had "straightened" after an accident. It was bent pretty badly though. I was young and trying to save a buck. It came apart a couple of weeks later and luckily just banged around in the engine compartment, scaring the crap out of me. Lucky for me I was near home. Did a junkyard run, and that fan worked until I sold the car. Which I still regret! :banghead: Not too long after replacing the fan, the water pump went out as well, so I would suggest better safe that sorry! |
Re: Daverods project 66
Hi ho off to the junk yard I go.;)
