Re: Daverods project 66
It only matters how much it's worth if your going to sell it. Ya I don't see how people make money fixing up old cars/trucks.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
oh theres money in most cars, just not trucks. I wonder if they made muscle trucks with 396's that handled like a sports car back then, they would be worth more today.

Re: Daverods project 66
My wife tells me that building old trucks and cars is still cheaper than a girlfriend and lawyer fees or a head shrink or a bar tab....
I keep all the receipts in a big folder (in case I have a problem later) but I have NEVER totaled them up on any thing I have ever built. And I never will. An old and wise friend said to me once and I quote" You know I work on my old cars for fun and relaxation and if I realized how much money I have spent on them ,then it would not be fun anymore" Keep going Dave --Don't look back |
Re: Daverods project 66
so if you give me some money to work on my truck is that still relaxation for you?
|
Re: Daverods project 66
 yeah i dont even want to total my receipts up so far, maybe i could afford that new truck
|
Re: Daverods project 66
I made that mistake, and I'm only on the frame.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
 yeah basically where i am only have a box full of new parts waiting also..
|
Re: Daverods project 66
I try to avoid thinking about how much I have spent and especially how much I still need to spend on my truck, it generally results in my curled up in the fetal position sobbing for 30 hours or so.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
I keep track of everything. I put all my reciepts in a folder for each truck and add everything up about every 3 months. ;) I don't ever plan on selling them but I just like to see where all my $$$$ is going. It's all going in my trucks. I agree with you Bubba it cheaper then a bar tab and it keeps my out of trouble.:smoke: kinda

Re: Daverods project 66
its actually more than ten but i learned a long time abo to stop counting after a certan stage since it takes away from the joy of making it and its just money not spend on beer and that sortah stuff
i did learn that a lot of little things make for one big moneyhole , and that its sumtimes better to get a partstruck for all those small parts |

Re: Daverods project 66
If you guys are spending that much on beer tabs, yall have another problems. I can honestly say in my 28 years of age. I haven't spent more then 500 on beer.

$500 does not buy many beers!!! I know folks who stop at the bar on the way home most every night. I never did think that was the right thing to do. |
Re: Daverods project 66
If I could quit drinking big two Rock Stars every day I might have some more cash for my truck. Got my wife to help me flip my frame over. Welded up the bottom f my step notches. My welding has got better, that's a good thing. Still need to box in the frame alittle.:uhmk: Then more painting.:metal:

:metal: Beautiful detail and paint work.
After 14 months in getting my truck up and going - the one thing I learned for sure is: NEVER, EVER RUN A DOLLAR TOTAL ON YOUR PROJECT! |

Re: Daverods project 66
i wanted one running truck the way i like it ....... i have three trucks now one 77 longbed with a bigblock a 79 shortbed torn down to the cab and another 86 longbed running a smallblock on propane
the intention is to run the th700 and the 350 and propane instalation out the 86 longbed in the 77 shortbed and prolly use part of the longbeds interior too , i have an extra cab and better bed for it and prolly temporary use the frontclip from the bigblock truck it will become a daily driver and it needs to be finished first i drive it round in the hodge podge paintjob or pant it orange with hammerite paint the bigblock truck will get the dropmember airride the big wheels and will try to trade the frontclip of the 86 longbed for an older type to make that truck complete again i have most parts but some airline most of the electrics and a lot of nuts and bolts , those things will cost me a fortune since the nearest o reilly is 8 hours flying , and i just know i miss sumting the moment i try to mount a part to the truck you guys are relativily lucky to live in the states where parts are relativily eazely available and the nearest parthouse is a block away and has the stuff on stock or within 2 days (over here it comes with a boat and it can take as long as 3 months ) forget a part twice and you can wait another winter untill its warm enough to work on the truck again ...... now immagine wat a simple part will cost schipped to europe |
Re: Daverods project 66
That sucks. I think you need to move over here. Takes me about 4 min. to get to the parts store and about 10min to get to the junk yard. I order stuff from brothers and it comes in two days. Except for my transmission cross member I don't know what in the hell is taking it so long. It was on special.:smoke:
|
Re: Daverods project 66
yeah on special means, they take there time and you get it when you get it on the discounted price.
|
Re: Daverods project 66
Going on a week and two days.:sumo:Doesn't ready matter because I already tore everything apart. Been working on my step notches. I ground the lip off the sides band rewelded them some. Looks a lot better. Couple more days and I should be able to start putting it together for good.

Re: Daverods project 66
I'm doing the "solution by dilution" theory,
Take the cost, stretch it over 10 years, and have a truck when I'm done. And if I'm lucky, the wife won't notice the cost, society will not have outlawed this type of transportation and they'll still produce gasoline LOL But in all reality,I too, am not really interested in knowing what my costs are Looking good Dave T |
Re: Daverods project 66
Did you find your crossmember yet? You have been pretty quiet here lately so it must have shown up and given you something to work on...
