I know I post too much on this thread, but I can't help but share these photos. I stayed up late into the wee hours of the morning last night cleaning this '67 bellhousing so I could paint it with 2-part spray paint from Eastwood that I had left over from painting my engine. It was going to go bad unless I used it, and I didn't want to waste it.

Finally got the adapter for the new steering wheel after installing a new Flaming River tilt column. I'm loving how it feels. Then I removed 2 leaf springs from each side as God only knows when the backordered lowering springs will arrive. That dropped the rear about 3 inches. I think it's pretty close to where it should end up when the new springs get here. Maybe about an inch high right now. Yesterday was the first time I drove her over speed bumps since the lowering. I was nervous as my exhaust sits below the frame, but she glided right over :) Column and before and after lowering pics below.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I couldn't take not having my back window in anymore and waiting for various friends schedules to help me try and install my Houston Craigslist's (1984 era) factory like aluminum Sliding Window. So I paid a "come to your house" vehicle window installer. It must have been the easiest money they ever earned, as I had the full window already out and the gasket/SS Trim pre-installed on the slider window frame.

They were very nice local Kyle guys and they wanted to talk about my truck (a lot). They said they more often than not have to deal with rusty trucks and mine was a breeze! So overall, I feel good about supporting a local business. I still paid less than buying a new slider (the black pre-tinted ones) and that is with me driving to Houston and back.

Edit:
Added bonus - the tint that is on the Slider pretty much matches the new tint on my doors that I had put on late last year. It needs to be replaced but I don't need to do that any time soon!

Man, that lowering looks great, completely changes the truck's look. That chrome column is pretty too!

Dusted her off and drove her like I stole her today. 70 degrees in DFW today. Tomorrow will be high 30's at best with a constant 25 MPH wind and steady gusts 50-60 MPH. The windchill will be C. O. L. D. ....COLD

Its a nice 75 down here in Kyle ... then code again tomorrow (but not that cold in DFW). I'll be driving around as soon as it is COB!

.

Replaced vintage air fan power relay. The symptom was no blower fan.

What I found was a loose connection at the main relay (the harness was only about a quarter of the way plugged in) which was probably causing the thing to actuate over and over essentially clicking itself to death!

Feels good to have accomplished something...now onto finding the refrigerant leak before summer...

Thank you Jiggers - finally got to drive around after replacing my starter a little while ago. It really changes the feel inside of the cab.

I also got myself a fully chrome tailgate handle from Auto Metal Direct (it is where I actually bought my tailgate from). Sadly I didn't notice my ship to was still setup for my brother to pick up the freight shipping for the replacement tailgate - so I'll have to wait extra time before I'll get it.

Got my new chrome tailgate handle installed. It was a LOT easier getting the handle out and the new one in - I really expected it to be a chore. While it seems a little uneven on the passenger side (when looking from the top into the tailgate) it is a straight as I could get it. The one I took out, which was new from GMCPauls's gave my brother all kinds of problems. Even with the washers he welded on, it barely cleared the upper Trim. Which is why I couldn't get the SS Handle cover on, then it wouldn't clear the upper Trim at all.

I also found my driver side hinges came loose and allowing that side to slop around a little, so got that all tighten up. Then on the passenger side, the upper tongue thingy was dragging into the bed slot, one or two taps with BFH fix that.

It's like an all new tailgate, pretty chrome handle that isn't dragging, the bed closes much easier and doesn't move/wiggle.

Worked on my hood to get the back to cowl to lay a lot more even. It sooo annoyed me and I finally searched the forums for some help. Just like clock work, hood not sitting all the way down helped me out!

Looks great. So much better than mine. When it warms up I definitely need to replace the repop hinges the PO put on the truck.

A good friend helped me remove my rear axle for what will be(hopefully) a correct set up and probably take it back to to a highway gear ratio. Also ordered new rear parking brake cables, new rear brake lines and hardware, new lowering blocks and U bolts.

Your truck looks great. I was wondering where you're having your axle work done? I'm looking to possibly change my gearing and add posi to mine. Thanks

Auto Metal Direct, made by TriPlus - which I think is the same peeps that made my tailgate. It is totally different fit than the one I got from GMCPauls - my bother had to tack on washer on that one to get it to clear at all.

Well talked to two windshield installers and both said no way on installing my windshield because of the chrome trim. So I am now going to do it myself.

The second thing is I finally found a place to cut down my drive shaft. Plan on dropping it off tomorrow and go in wait mode for a month.

My little heater isn't worth much. Today, having the door open actually warmed it up some. I only need heat about a week or 2 a year, so going big isn't worth taking money from the truck.

Got these cool little tie downs for the GM Bed Rails off Ebay today (listed for El Camino rails). Though you got to take the rail apart at end (and the middle ones too) to slide them in and down the rail.

I finally got the NP205 I posted pieces of above finished up. Both it and the old SM465 should probably have been left rusting in the field where they were sitting. I think I have over $500 in parts in each of them now.

That is the last piece of my all new drivetrain for the K10. Now comes the fun part.

I suck at buying used truck parts. Both axles ended up having nothing usable other than the housings and hubs (new R&P gears, carriers, bearings and seals). The transmission got new 2nd & 3rd gears on the mainshaft, 3rd and 4th on the countershaft and then new shifter forks. Oh the top cover parts were all rusted into one piece as well. It is pretty satisfying to make old rusty junk nice again, but I certainly could have picked better pieces to start with.

There might still be a big lot of these on Ebay. There are a lot of singles and a few multiples but they almost cost as much as this big bag of various sizes that I bought. I really think I have enough for all the different water hose sizes and will have spares too. IMO, I think these clamps look cool.

Thank you for the vote - it has been passing between my 72 and jchav62' 62 for quite some time now. I have to be honest, that '62 is sweet (for a 62 that is LOL).

We have a 56,000 mile truck that we don't drive much. the water pump went out a while back and I didn't have time to change it. I took it to a shop and didn't look under the hood for a couple of weeks. Oh my, screw clamps everywhere. I called and asked where the original Wittek clamps went. DUH, nobody knows anything.

I have been buying the Wittek clamps here. https://antique-tractor-parts.steine...r/Wittek-Clamp

Love your truck BTW.
