Kewl. That's better than using a can opener. :haha:
Really Allan looks great |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Alan:
Your truck is looking great. Regarding the problem with the right side latch striker, can you tell what is the cause of the difference side to side? Is it the tailgate, the bracket holding the striker, or the bedside that is different? Things are supposed to fit. If there is a product problem, we want to know about it. Thank you for feedback. Mar-Ktech |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Nice progress report Alan; the tailgate looks killer! Glad to see your truck moving along.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I really like these new tailgates that Mar-K is making. I just first saw them a couple months ago. Yours looks good on there Alan.

The stricker plates are within .015 total height of each other. The only thing I noticed with the stricker plate was the welded on bung is beveled on one and not the other (noted in top 2 pics). It wouldn't be causing this problem just something I noticed. It's hard to tell in the pic, but there is a noticeable difference when looking at how far the stricker sticks out past the bedside when compared to each other. I tried my best to get the same angle on both sides. I did have bondo dust in my eyes. I did measure how far my bedsides stick out off of the post. They were pretty close to being the same. I also measured the cavity where the latch sits in the TG nothing noticable there. I'm gonna play with the hinges some and see what that does. This problem is very small and I will figure it out. Just kind of mind boggling right now. Thanks for a great product and customer service. I remember talking to James last year about the inner bed patch panels he was fantastic to deal with. Keep up the great work. Quote:

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I was wrong on the TG, about modifying the stricker. I adjusted the right side of the TG up and the left side down just a little and I'm happy. I thought the TG was where it needed to be.............I was wrong. It won't be the last time something like that will happen...........me being wrong. My problems may be of some help to others.;)

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Nice to see the electron is still working.;) Maybe the molecules used on the one side are larger than the molecules on the other side. You might have to increase the mag. to find out. Looking good:ito:

I'm getting tired of sanding and wiping on my bed. Working the inside of one more bedside. Then it's priming time. Then more sanding. Remind me again why we do this..........................? |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I use 1/4 for work (nail guns, staple guns). I'm not sure how much a paint gun needs. I think it makes a difference when running air tools like a impact gun. Just bought a 3/8.;) Ah, we do it because we love it.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I've got a bad illness. I can't leave well enough alone. I just wanted ya'll to know to explain why I'm not getting much done. I'm doing 4Runner surgery. The 86 needs a roof and windshield pillar skins. Here's the donor roof.
http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC03437.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/DSC03439.jpg I had to this this weekend so I could have some light. It gets dark by the time i get home during the week. Promise, progress is being made on the 65. Going out tonight to sand more. |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Well if the illness is more than a truck addiction or bondo fever, i hope you get to feeling better ;)
Cool cant wait to see the runner all patched up and good to go. |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Is it yours or work your doing for someone. :uhmk: Looks like a good project.;)

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Ronnie traded me some wood for my bed. It has some stains on it from sitting around, so I drug out the planner and tried to see if I could remove alittle material. It cleaned up pretty good.
Before http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC03453.jpg After http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC03454.jpg Side-by-side comparision http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC03456.jpg all done http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC03457.jpg Now a question for you wood workers. I've refinished wood before, but by no means am I a pro. I will be sanding the wood prior to coating. Should I use a type of sanding sealer prior to color (if I choose a color). Even if I don't use a color should a sanding selaer be used? I'm thinking just varnish all of it and sand it smooth and repeat the process several times. I want something that has a UV protector in it. I'm still thinking of staining it a light orange color, but natural looks awesome as well. |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I would think the sanding sealer would stop the color from absorbing into the wood. Maybe after you stain it.;)
|
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
if you want the wood to look a little richer. I would give it a thinned down coat of boiled linseed oil wipe it dry and I mean dry and give it a wipe every couple of hours as there will be some bleeding back from the grain. coat it the next day with polyurethane and follow up with a few more coats. prepare to sand it and recoat every couple of years if left in the weather
straight polyurethane will leave the wood looking lighter in colour . no sealer needed. sanding sealer just has more stearates(easier to sand) in it and makes the finish softer . less crap in the finisher makes it harder. gloss is harder than satin(less inhibitors) ron oxalic acid more than likely would have removed those stains |

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I used helmsman (not sure on spelling) for all the clear finishes I have done on our salt water tank stands. So far everything has held up great (oldest is 3years now).
I also read somewhere to put a slight radius on the boards where the notch is cut out for the metal strips. They said it helps keep the clear coat from cracking and peeling on the hard edge. |

The bed wood looks to have come out quite nicely.
I vote for a stain on the wood. While orange will be unique for sure, I think it may just be too much orange. Just my .02, either way I'm sure you'll make it look great. |

SCORE I remembered about a year ago when I went to look at a truck that was for sale, he had a GMC hood, that was extra, he had shipped in from Fresno off of Ebay. I think he wanted 400 for it at the time. I saw it again on CL not too long ago. I wanted to call him but I thought the price was still too high. I couldn't find the ad last night, but I remember I took pics of his truck and one of the pics had the far sale sign in the window. I called him this morning and he still had it. He told me he would take 200 on the phone. All said and done I got it for 160. It has some minor dents and some holes that need to be welded up. There is only surface rust. :metal: |

Running a clear lense with an orange bulb will be the plan. I smoked out the tail lights of my turbo Miata and it looks awesome and still lite up red. |
Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I got some bulbs off ebay that look chrome. So when the light is off you can't see the bulb at all and there is no orange cast to the lens. But it blinks orange and doesn't cut down on the light.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Now I have another seam to weld up on a hood. :waah: The hood is in such good shape I don't want to weld it up. To go with my vision it needs to be.

Back on to the bed. Trying to get the wood trimmed out for the filler neck. I'm almost there. Remembering the old adage "measure twice cut once". ;) Sorry for the cell phone pic.

I had the pleasure to meet another board member today. :metal: Enick72 drove his 65 truck up to my place, we had a good chat about trucks. I enoyed the visit. I've been trying to find a loover of some sort to graft into my fenders. I might have found them. I was putting a front end on a '09 Taurus. Since I replaced one of the fenders I just need the other side. Shouldn't be too long before we get another since I work at ford. Just not sure if it would look good or not. I need some input please. |
