Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Well said Richard, when I work on my truck I call it therapy, it really is.

Nothing major, but I needed a solution to carry some tools and whatnot and storage on these is like hen's teeth. Decided to go with a cross bed toolbox. I'm in contact with a few upholstery shops to see who will make me a nice tonneau to butt up against it. It's a cheapie, but I'm happy with it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Cross bed tool boxes are one of the best accessories ever made for pickup trucks!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I recently had my alternator remanufactured by a local shop due to it's squealing. I got it reinstalled this afternoon and it's finally silent!

I have parts pilling up on my shop table! Got my wiper delay box and a water pump for my stock washer Reservoir in the mail today. Still have my tower clamps to put on too! Knowing my luck it will turn cold again on me.
Shameless Ask for Votes Soooo guys that get pop in here and read this thread, it is less than 24 hours to the end of February 2022 ToTM-Fondue I am currently leading but only by 1 vote (its been back and forth all this time I think)! Might any of you great 67`72 truckers want to vote for me? I am sure I sound desperate but I figured I'd get on the old stump for votes one last time! I'd be so proud to win :) https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=830167 |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Good luck Richard, I tried to vote for you again but ..... they won't let me.
I like the old clamps, mine are the same, only new. |

Doing some winter maintenance. Had my original rotors turned, installed new bearings, races, and seals. Threw in some new pads, and figured I’d go ahead with replacing the 50 year old brake hoses, too. As said above, this is my therapy as well. Besides, no one wants to be doing this in the Spring/Summer when it’s time to cruise!

While replacing inner, outer rockers, kick panel and lower portion of A-pillar, I figured I's take my time and get some internal frame coating sprayed in while I had the access. Maybe I can keep the rust at bay for a while now. Here are some pics.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Well, hopefully I’ll be working in my grandfathers old 71 gmc soon
Offered a big chunk of money for it When and if I get it. I’ll start a project thread and get to work on it |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Placed an order for a custom tonneau cover to fit with the new tool box. Old school black vinyl and chrome snaps. Now, I wait!!
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Brent, I like the look of snaps but I don't like to drill holes in the box, what about Velcro instead of snaps ??

Rear differential is out for re-gearing so I am taking the opportunity to clean things up - new rear brake hose and lines, ne U bolts and blocks - also got the track bar out for new bushings and restoration - replacing all hardware with Grade 8 stuff

I installed a new carrier to replace the old original single track. Reused the same 3:70 gears. The carrier shims required a lot of changes to get the back lash into specifications.

Got two more of those "El Camino" bedrail tie downs off FleaBay. I am pretty sure with all 6 of them I paid more for them than the rails or darn near it.
Since they are plastic I won't trust them to hold much down, the point for me was "there has to be something that can slide in the inner gap of the rails"! So in that regard I am very happy with them. It is the little things that bug me to no end LOL Speaking of bugging me, my inside of my spear tire annoys me to no end. I kick myself in the butt all the time for not dealing with it before I had the tire mounted on the wheel. I was so eager to get the tire on my wheel on, then mounted inside the the bed I didn't take the time to "think" about how nasty the inside of the wheel would look. Grrrr. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Installed one of those GAMA battery disconnects which saves me from eventually stripping/ wearing out the battery threads.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Replaced the radiator and it doesn't leak yet.

My custom tonneau cover arrived today. Very impressed with the quality and ease of installation. The cover was $349 plus 60 bucks shipping. I also paid 50 bucks for a piece of angle aluminum to support the cover at the toolbox. Had I known it was simply going to be cut to length and nothing else, I would have gone to Home Depot and saved 30 bucks. Overall, very happy with the cover and a bit butt hurt about the $50 aluminum. In their defense, they made it clear I did not have to buy it from them, but I did thinking it might be drilled and include some hardware. Live and learn on that one. I got it from J&R Upholstery. They were great to deal with, answered my initial inquiry late on a Friday evening and continued to respond on the weekend. Once I called to place the order, they built and shipped it in under a week.

The tonneau went on so easily, I decided to hit up a local salvage yard in search of new seats. I found a set out of an '03 Silverado for 200 bucks, so I snagged them and got them installed as well. Like others have done, I had to drill new holes and support the floor, but it went pretty smooth and a big improvement for me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Very nice box cover and seats Brent, when you get a chance, can I see a pic of the frame work for the cover please, I'm interested in the box side rails and how they clamp to the box ...... tia
If my seat was that comfy, I might fall asleep, LoL |

Rebuilt engine is in place. Someday I'm going to get lucky and the motor mount bolts are going to thread in without loosening the engine stands first. Not today, though!

Finished installing my rebuilt engine. It started right up. Took it for a ring-seating test drive. No smoke, and it isn't overheating. What a relief!
Made a little throttle spring bracket so I wouldn't have to use one of the intake manifold bolts. I still need to paint it. |
