AS mentioned in the other board, you can never have enough sheds! :D

Good morning Bill

Agreed, more sheds more stuff.

However. This shed will help clear the driveway and some stuff in the garage.

How true John.

Its kind of full already.

Had a couple of "objections" on other forums that guys did not want to click through to the actual shed thread but were interested in progress.

So I will do the usual copy and paste into this thread as its minimal effort for me. And nothing else is happening right now.

So.

Where do I start??

When I stripped the truck down, stuff like the complete exhaust system had to stay in one piece to serve as basic template when I make up the new 3" system with electric cutouts for the truck.
They have laid on the drive against a wall since then.
Loads of other "important stuff" has found its way there too.
Disability scooter chassis, beer kegs, biltong making cabinet, lawnmower, wheelbarrow and it goes on and on.

So the shed I had that was Nicolas potting shed would not take more stuff as it was already at capacity.

But it needed sorting and clearing as well as painting. Something used to do every year when I cleaned and painted the deck and pressure cleaned all the block paving and driveway.

So into action........

Clear away growth, empty shed, move onto lawn and paint 3 coats over three days. It s cheaper than replacing the shed and has worked on this shed since I had the Taunus Transit.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1iom9ip1.jpg

This side needed to drop and you can see how high it is compared to the shed.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmnzqg614.jpg

What was there. Built up and filled over time to raise that section of garden.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspcg3hsmg.jpg

Of course everything takes time and I had to go to Katy every second weekend to help her with various jobs in the garden at her place etc.

There were two Butlers sinks next to the shed that originally came from Jabbo, offered them back to him but he declined.
So CraigRK got one to use as a dogbath.

The other went to Katy's place as a smal garden for alpines.

Nice result once cleaned up and placed on some sleeper offcuts.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psucdyjwhq.jpg

In the mean time Mickey next door rescued me a lighter weight patio set from his sons skip and I could give him the cast iron set on my deck for his garden.
The new set needed a clean up and one small repair.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssburv0tt.jpg

Around the same time I bought a small bandsaw with 6 spare new blades off Facbook traders page while I was away at a three day training meeting in the Midlands. This would become impotant later. Like in yesterday.

Mate Paul fetched it and delivered it to my place one evening. Thanks Paul.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqbg4bjay.jpg

Around the same time I got two contractor lodgers move in for three weeks while they worked on maintenance at Damhead Creek powerstation.

So the BBQ got to work overtime.

This is really good as its part of the reward after a day digging holes or humping stuff about.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstqnotirn.jpg

Keep in mind. This shed was really created to just be a rough rustic garden shed. With a dirt floor.

Of course that was not going to happen.

Another longterm good friend, Kevin who I helped a bit last year digging trenches and humping stuff when we built him a new patio, delivered a load of 500x500mm paving slabs that I stashed behind the garage for future use, months ago.......

Perfect ehhh.

So I started to carry them through from the rear to use some as a base for the garden shed and decided to lay some down on a very thin layer of sharp sand as floor to the shed.

Wooop Wooooopp !!

Free stuff.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskuctxiim.jpg

A few weeks ago Kevin cleared out his garage and found some 3x3" 8 foot posts too that he offered me.
I also bought over 4 3" Metposts to use as corner posts from him for £30.00 delivered.
More about the delivery later.

Getting this shed done and my garage cleared will allow me ti get on with the truck.

The shed and Prozac the van have helped get my MoJo back too.

Grizz1963 04-27-2017 06:15 AM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So once the existing shed was moved, the next job was to level out and clean up and place some of Kevin's old pavers on a very thin layer of sand..

There will also still be strips of wood under it when done, just to keep the floor as dry as possible.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuwssc9jc.jpg

Then of course I had to dismantle the existing garden after 6 years of carting stuff like stones, logs, ornaments and other plants in there.

Pile of rocks, to be redistributed later.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgmderwsv.jpg

Measure and peg out the basic line where I wanted to get to with the new shed.

Using all sorts of rubble to create a dry wall behind which all the solid dug out will go.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgidkffpd.jpg

Most nights after work I would get an hour or two in to dig a bit or move stuff about as I get home around 5-6pm if traffic and trains work well. So little by little it moved ahead.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvwe5bihx.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9l2ouudc.jpg

One evening I had to pop in at my GP to collect my yearly antihistamine prescription.......

And had another Hallelujah moment.

In the garden of the practice was a large skip.

Yes, I cannot resist a skip.

And in the skip.......... MONEY !!!!!

Seriously, cash is all around if you keep your eyes open.

I saw this used garden gate.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskipqe21o.jpg

Went inside and asked about it, before getting to my pills.

Of course you can have it if you want it.

Went home, fetched the Prozac Berlingo and also did a Google search to find the following.

£165.00 for the gate, excluding delivery or hardware. Online was free delivery. But regardless, not everyone would have that luxury.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psry0qjwrv.jpg

Gate in the back, flat on the floor and tailgate strapped to it with some electric cord from the skip..... happy days.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskn1bwnkl.jpg

Crazy Crazy world.

Free Money.

Who would say no to free cash??

I don't care how arrogant or up your own wallet you are, but if I tossed £165.00 on the floor in front of you, and said "Pick it up, it's yours" and you could go out to some pretentious restaurant and spend it on an overpriced meal, you probably would.

To me, these freebies translate into a new truer on my bike, a replacement circular saw etc.

So bit by bit the other parts of the garden where I had removed dead growth started to get filled with the soil dug out on the new site.
Carried there load by load.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psttwo7k8r.jpg

More later, time for work now.

You're one hard working man. The van is working out like you wanted as a hauler of skip finds and other objects as needed for yard, home and truck updates.

Hi Vince,

Thank you for posting up.

Of course I am watching your build all the way too.

The jobs happening right now are all part of the process of my head getting back to where it needs to be.

Hard working to me is more about just needing to keep busy.

Tonight I called a halt at 7pm and came in, not a common thing, but sometmes a rest is a good thing too.

Looking forward to getting the Shed project wrapped up, and then of course the shed filled, and garage emptied so that I can start on the truck again.

More photos of the original progress on Prozac.

Base layer mocked up.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbt4ntk65.jpg

Fitted.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfer7dpjo.jpg

Then of course came the time to start working on the final look planned for the car.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psu2uwbkay.jpg

Numbers custom cut for the Berlingo doors by Dennis.

I think he had as much fun as I did up to this point.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyp4dvwp6.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psubjfms1l.jpg

Miss Katy had come over to help as well, one needs to have an octopus like reach, and with the wind blowing one needed reflexes of a whippet to get them down right.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9odxknqu.jpg

At this point, I actually loved the look.

But of course we were on a mission.

To create a dummy NASCAR support vehicle.

All tongue firmly in cheek.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psm4qqxred.jpg

We then had lunch while the wind pumped away.

The next session would be easier, but also challenging as I needed to get the look right, using real trucks to get the placement right.

More in a bit.

And of course the full length fabric sunroo, alwaysva joynto operate.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscenbttea.jpg

One of the other ballache jobs to do was to replace the broken brake bias valve spring.

At £22.00 it's a rip off but needed part.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspcqhyssm.jpg

Old vs New.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxwta04jg.jpg

Of course to fit it you need pencil thin fingers and long too, bit like an alien, to get into the available space.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps5o14j9lm.jpg

Took me an hour I guess, incl removing the spare wheel etc, and refitting.

Still, it's done.... one more box ticked for MOT time.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd9r0gcej.jpg

Also finally finished the rear end.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvhpyxqdc.jpg

May be almost up to date on the van.

But more to go.

Thanks Photophukkit.

And that's what it's all about.

Well, that and doing all sorts of odd jobs Ian, along with getting me back on track.

I mentioned Kevin coming over.

Saturday of Easter weekend, early morning with his long VW van.

Loads of reclaimed timber, 3x3 posts from crates.

Also four met posts I bought off him for the same he paid as he was not going to use them.

Kevin had also agreed to come spend a few hours here, helping me break the back on this big dig out.

So we moved a lot of soil, some for top dressing the lawn, which ultimately I reused to raise the level under the pavers that were going into the shed.

Unfortunately I took no photos through the morning we worked as time was limited.

So once he went off to rejoin his family, I carried on levelling out the soil.

Preparation is as always one of the most important things to do.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2yj9ampp.jpg

Pavers and posts in place.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbiwgwlya.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvseaqsmh.jpg

Saturday morning I was up by 05.00 and in the garden moving stuff around before 06.00 got to say I love summer.

I had some bricks to lay before going over to Katy's place. And to me time is precious, so get stuff done..... soonest.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxkxdv6qr.jpg

I am using a solid lower level all the way around.

Kevin was also able to get me some railway sleepers that I am planning to use as the bottom of the shed, preventing the usual rot for a few years longer than regular pine.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfvva5yuj.jpg

Once I had laid the bricks, I watered down, but added some cement powder to the left over and then spread it with a yard broom just to get all the slabs the same colour.

Happy with the result too.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psksizfhtj.jpg

Weekends away from home frustrate me as I know how much work is still there, but as usual I guess there are times when doing nothing is the right thing.

So Katy and I ended up in Eastbourne.

Fish and chips, walk on the esplanade, ice cream and of course collecting holes rocks to string up under my tree.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuud8pbjm.jpg

Happy girl, exactly the opposite to not progressing with my build.

Still.....

Some stuff just needs to be done.

Working solo unfortunately means progress is a bit slower.

Summer is here.

I may have mentioned it.

But that does not stop the rain from waiting to exactly the time you need to work to start opening up.

My one neighbour has a Toyota van that I have a spare set of keys to and 24/7 access and use to, as long as the diesel levels stay the same. Pretty good deal ehhh??

Anyways, last week I managed to get a day that was convenient for Andy who I bought Prozacs wheels from to pop over after work in the evening, but the Toyota was unavailable, plus the wood I was collecting for the shed build mostly was 2.4 meter lengths, so Toyota would not work.
So Stuart said take the Citroen van, long wheelbase, high roof......

Of course on the way there it started to rain, escalating while we were loading.

What a great van to drive, it really shunts.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0uiggknd.jpg

Photos need to be taken.

Andy thankfully helped, so it went quite fast.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psn2e9q2ov.jpg

I suspect he was happy for the wood to leave his property after languishing in a corner for years.
He had planned on building a shed from these recycled 1 inch planks, but he ended up buying a large built shed and having it installed as workshop.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspvnc5kkr.jpg

Loaded.

Deceptively large interior on the van, and full 8 foot plus flooor.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psaloq9hxu.jpg

Headed home and was back home by 7pm

Reversed down my drive, mirrors tucked in and actually had to weave the van around the concrete fence posts as it would not go straight through.

Down to the bottom of the garden to unload and create even more of a hoard pile.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps5kbdbfje.jpg

Unpacking on my own, the keen of eye amongst you will see if you look carefully....... Imhad a helper. Can you see her yet?

Yup...... HARLEY.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszjssixye.jpg

Some more of the loose planks on the other side, and the upright posts were some of what Kevin had brought over at Easter.

And of course the pile of stuff behind it, part of the reason I am building this shed.

The £40.00 caravan/shed also filled with "stuff"

I do pity the person who has to sort out my estate.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssytz80ti.jpg

Once unloaded I really did worry about getting the van out again, it was a very tight fit coming in, and getting out is more difficult in my book.

Remembered to stop and take a pic of the gap.

The Citroen is certainly wider than the Sprinter vans I have reversed down there, and the car trailer and Teardrop previously.

Still, made it out and returned the van to Stuart.

Cost formdiese, well what I put in for the 30 mile trip was £30.00 so wood still a bargain, and Andy threw in some left over roofing felt, you know, to cover that last 18 inches you do not want to go buy a whole new roll for.

Photo is slightly confusing, but you can see the gap down the side of the van.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbo8eclai.jpg

Other than the short pieces, these planks are attached to each other in 3 or 4 plank strips with pallet nails, hit in from both sides at angles, so not fun to dismantle.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspelafiea.jpg

When unpacked I thought I would just measure up and mock up the roof frame to see what I had to work with.

Of course the tools came out and I ended up adding a bit more to the frame.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssgeywnbs.jpg

More later on further progress.

It's also weekend...... well, after work today.

Grizz1963 04-30-2017 01:38 AM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Insomnia sucks, as does snoring, especially when it is not you snoring..... cue 04.15

Followed by a cat in bed around the same time, looking for a cuddle, while purring loudly, so snores one side, and Harley the other, so cuppa tea, feed cat and surf web downstairs.

At 05.15 on cue the lodgers came in from their night shift, a pair of brothers, twins and at age 68 they look more like 58 and behave like men much younger than that. Geordies...... so great to have booked into Casa Grizz for three days, money to the mortgage again. Quiet as mice, they along with the previous two, have been an absolute pleasure to have around. Long may it continue.

Back to the shed build.

I have tried to just get a couple of hours in every night after work till dark, so averaged around 2 hrs a night.

Having bought a few boxes of "50mm and 100mm length quick screws, and some new driver bits the costs of the project were still silly low. I may do an inventory of costs later.

I have to say, the right tools and equipment makes a big difference on progress, and being a solo job, it helps for sure.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psdsbzzlab.jpg

After that main framework was up, I decided to continue with the roof.

With all of Andy's planks, it also meant I had enough planks to create the roof, and save a further £66.00 that two sheets of decent ply would cost me, as I could not find used hoarding to buy anywhere.

Laid them out.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps77oybh1l.jpg

My last circular saw had eventually given up the ghost the night I did the framework for the roof and I completed the cuts with a handsaw and my trusty B&Q cheapest brand jigsaw, which I have managed to now drop on its face, bending its foot to the extent that corrective surgery was needed with a large garage ball pein hammer, accuracy now certainly not guaranteed, but it cuts.

So I popped into Screwfix for a second time to get more screws to replace the ones I stole off Mickeys work bench and bought a cheap circular saw. At £55.00 it was bought purely on spec, decent power, a soft start trigger and 190mm adjustable blade.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbiua8emp.jpg

So on Wednesday evening after work I fitted the roof and also painted the rough cut timber inside of it.......

You may ask me why, and hopefully the reply will make sense.

Light reflection.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshl09hrjr.jpg

Keep in mind that the roof is getting felted in the end when you notice the gaps.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspzwydoiu.jpg

Who remembers the size of the footprint of the shed??

Remember the reasons for it being weird shaped?

Yes, my tree had a lotto dowith it, as did the free door I found in the GP surgery skip, and then of course the fact I am greedy and thought a couple of extra square feet in space sounded good.

I had not considered for a moment that all this would result in nothing being straight.

This included the roof.

BUGGGERRRRRRR...!!!!!!!!!!

Can you see the mistake?

Well, not a mistake, because any way you cut it, there would be an odd shaped wall or roof angle.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psi8kq6w5e.jpg

But by the time I realised it, it was too late and almost dark.

So I showered and went to bed, having shared a few pics with the likes of mates Martin, Kevin, CraigRK and Ta2Don and Dennis in Saint Louis.

Sadly, most of them suffer from varying degrees of OCD and had to state that it was just not right........ "You gotta fix it man"

I was working in London for the day on Thursday, so by the time I was on the 07.24 train a plan had hatched, and I could address it at least partly.

I walked from Charing Cross to St Thomas' Hospital, and again felt privileged for the random stuff I get to see.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnwnjmj5s.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswtvh54wv.jpg

Small shipping container coffee shop.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psho5ckcd4.jpg

Your doctors transport?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxcycpsd2.jpg

So Thursday evening I went back to basics, and it made me smile once I had gotten on with it.

Back in a while to update.

Oooopps.....!!

So all day I walked around with the ideas spinning around in my head.

Odd curved roof ??

Or

Wall with two distinctly different heights?

Got home, did some admin, then out to the garden.

Simple solution really.......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspqatsnnr.jpg

Closer up.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmp8jha4m.jpg

So I decided to raise the roof and change the shape of the wall.

Much easier on my OCD.

There......

Much better

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfeibcvhb.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1moadfqa.jpg

Next up, start making up the walls, rear wall first.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnxgememl.jpg

Two piles of wood became one.

Good result for after hours working.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psw5noxygi.jpg

So there you go.

Roof sorted, I could sleep a bit better.

More later for those of you following this build process.

Grizz1963 04-30-2017 05:05 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Friday came and went, uneventfully, except for a pair of lodgers, twins arriving to stay for a few days.

I had arranged with Kevin who had arranged for 15 railway sleepers or ties in American, to be delivered to his place to drive over at 06.45 on Saturday to help him load 5 plus two for my shed build.

When we had loaded them into his van, it seemed a great idea to cart the rest around his house by about 300 degrees, and carry them into his upper garden, remember the patio we built there last year? Same place. The old paving slabs were now being used in my shed build.

Once that was done we came back over to my place, Prozac in the lead...... filled with more wood from Kevin's place and glass.

I had already been to a local double glazing place earlier on, on my way to Kevin's place and picked up some old windows.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszup2xbjv.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps63clayot.jpg

Five good and very solid sleepers unloaded and stacked.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxsapk3uz.jpg

Remember the plus 2

They were rotted, one was already used as a retainer, and this one will be used as a planter for alpine.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslukz2mp5.jpg

Then onto measure, cut, fit, repeat.

Getting all the sleepers cut and fitted to act as a foundation to the rest of the shed walls.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfbslln1w.jpg

After a few hours, this was all that was left over.

The new circular saw was certainly earning its keep.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbjqjbqnc.jpg

And a bucket load of sawdust and chippins and rebated bits.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd978ccjp.jpg

I had also decided to use three courses against the soil wall Kevin and I had dug out over Easter weekend.

Happy with that result too.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfoz92kou.jpg

Next up was coffee and digestives, the constant pace and few bad nights of little sleep plus the sheer weight of working the sleepers alone was catching up.

Still, it was progressing faster than anticipated.

You a wood workin genius in my world Rian. Nice fix on the shed and how all the pieces are blending together.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Thanks Bill

I actually finished it yesterday afternoon by 3pm The updates are two days behind.

Tools were packed away and all the wood I still have was "repacked" on the other side of the drive, I do love like it tidy at the end of every day.

Still have to build all the shelves, hooks and storage space inside, hang the 6 foot double strip light Mickey brought around and then pack it all and clear my piles of stuff in the garage and on the drive so that I can get started on my truck.

But first the white paint on all the walls inside and wood preserver outside needs to dry and last job on the build is felting the roof of the new and old sheds, but Mickey will be helping on that as he weighs as much as a loaf of bread and can do the top section.

But today I think it's time to relax a bit.

Maybe take Katy to Whitstable in the little van.

Headed to a bootfair in 20 minutes.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So, to carry on with this sheds build report.

After the sleepers went in, I started to measure, cut, measure cut, measure cut and repeat, repeat repeat the front wall wood.

Then prepped the windows, which meant grinder out and remove the side opening mechanisms to leave just the glass and plastic frames.

Fitted in just to get perspective.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshdt6wxk9.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse9zwrptu.jpg

Sides in, frames screwed down through the inside of the frames.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslkqcmgec.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvanniiht.jpg

Plan was to work with the older shed in place, something that can be done, but it seemed easier to drop the shed on its face.

Like this.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvbu7op6u.jpg

Then I realised that the one floor support was rotten out.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssytf3gsi.jpg

Quickly did some repairs and fitted a new support, then added some skids for it to sit on top of on the paving slabs.

Did not realise that I assembled this in 2007 when I still had the Taunus Transit.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psovgcivkj.jpg

The sides went up easier, and measure, cut fit was getting on good.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps17xvnaak.jpg

This brought me to the end of Saturday, knackered too.

Shut shop around 7pm and came in to shower etc.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0fe3t7da.jpg

Small window on the side is for light and also to see up to the house if one ever made or built anything in there.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8gq55usd.jpg

Came in and relaxed with a drink and Katy cooked us dinner as the lodgers had gone to work.

Whatcha think so far ??

More in a while.

Even had me smiling at this point.

I am a reasonably hard taskmaster on my own work.

It came together as well as I could have wished for.

Went to bed at midnight, and unfortunately up by 05.00 with a cat and a snorer.

So by 06.00 cuppa tea number two, thread updates and then out.

By 07.00 it was onto the brushes.....

I was using anything I had on the shelf in the garage, all solvent based wood paint/preservers. And liked the darkness of it.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqomzpqlj.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscnsub9we.jpg

As usual, my helper was around my feet all the time.

I am always amazed at how she loves he garage, tools and just being right there where people are.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8nll2wqm.jpg

Masking up the windows meant I could go faster with the brush.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psupv5w4ni.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2gvvzlzl.jpg

Gloves had worn through by now, so a pair of rubber gloves kept my hands clean.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc4hg6fhi.jpg

While I painted the side and front wall, plus my door on both sides, Katy had done my ironing (Thank you very much) and then came to offer more help......

So I stuck her in an overall, beanie hat and some safety glasses joined by rubber gloves and shoved a large brush in her hands, stool to stand on and stand for the bucket of paint......

She got into it and saved me a lot of time as well.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxodhzeex.jpg

At some point she went to make us lunch, 4 boiled eggs and toast for me and somewhat less for herself.
At the same time Mickey came around to borrow my grinder with a diamond blade to finish a job, but he also ended up with half my lunch and a cuppa tea.

After lunch I had one more wall to do, the one on the garage side of the shed.

Saved the worst one for last.

Not that clever ehhh?

Thanks Bill.

That's what gives me a buzz, creating and using repurposed materials.

After lunch on Sunday, I really needed to push it as hard as I could, despite starting to feel how unfit I am.

This was the last wall to be done, with plants against it, and of course quite a lot higher than the rest of the shed.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqyaby7yl.jpg

After quite a bit of measure cut, fit it was done.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstw4ty10y.jpg

At this point the second coat on the front and one on the side went on, the door got coats number two and three.

I also then boxed in the sleeper on the side and put a shelf on top, followed by more paint, to get it all nice and reflectively white.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psoe7kksga.jpg

I had promised the twins, lodgers a good South African BBQ or Braai as we wanted to get some meat burned for dinner.
So finishing by 3pm was the target, and getting tools packed away, a shave and shower and then off to the shops to get meat......
Got there by 15.55 and of course they were closing as it was a long weekend.
So we popped over to Co-Op and got what we needed, plus a 10% staff discount. Perfect.

Back home it was action stations, fire, then sacrifice the animal products and dinner,

I popped out behind my garage to fetch some wood for the BBQ and saw that my Bootfair Fig tree planted last year or the year before, had four healthy figs. My apple and pear trees both have been yielding good volumes a few years now.

Figtree.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8lwap61p.jpg

Then took some last photos of the shed for the day to post up.

The last job on the build to be done is the roof of the new shed, and a renewal of my 10 year old shed.

Then of course shelves etc and pack it full of stuff.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgrwnhc7e.jpg

Happy with the end result.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfecpgh0a.jpg

Today was a slow day, I went to a small bootfair, bought two large boxes of 50mm and 80 mm woodscrews for £2.50 each. (Bargain) And some fruit and vegetables.

Later Katy and I were headed out to the Sweeps Festival at Rochester, but nearing it, there was a downpour, so we carried on to B&Q to get some rolls of roofing felt and two tubs of shed and wood preserver.

Good help is hard to find.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszzjvlrh3.jpg

Afterwards we came home, relaxed and I had dinner made for me.

Long weekend over.......

Few more tasks, but very happy with this shed.

It turned out even better than I had planned.

Grizz1963 05-04-2017 05:34 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Came home and spent some time sealing the gaps between the planks, sleepers etc with £24.00's worth of Silicone in white and dark brown. That's 8 tubes

Helped by Harley as is the norm.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psihhd3o1x.jpg

After that I decided to make the cap for the roof where the two levels come together.
Screwing down the donor plank onto the two sleeper offcuts and hitting the saw at 45 degrees, it makes short work of getting on with stuff.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps42ceouuu.jpg

I also started to make the scalloped facia boards that need to go on once the roofing felt is fitted.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psl1txokfw.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psikd3nwxe.jpg

And that is about it for today.

Other than the fact that I found a slalom ski dumped by the roadside for a friends son to fit to his car as part of the stuff that goes on a roof rack, as is de rigeur for many youngsters in the car scene. Thread here: http://retrorides.proboards.com/thre...ges-estate-mk6

Came in this Chariot......

Build thread here: http://retrorides.proboards.com/thre...ges-estate-mk6

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshfushjnz.jpg

And in the flesh I really like this car.

For a young man who has not even started to drive, he has a good vision of what he wants his car to look like.

Some of the additions are perfectly scene, but it is all subtle, and not overdone.

They also brought me a massively cool gift.

Two license plates and both rare in my book.

But the Cuba plate....... right outta the park !!

I have wanted to go to Cuba for years, so this is even more cool for that reason as it delivers.

Really good to see you Dan and George, and of course the little Rottweiler in the car (:))

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Shed building aside, Prozac seems to continue to earn its keep.

Managed to return a roll of roofing felt early on Saturday morning dropping the sheds cost by £21.00 again.

Then off to Katy's place for the rest of the weekend to do some house work.

I have yet to add up the costs of the overflow shed but suspect it may still end up under £150.00 which is a bit of a bargain for a space designed to get me some space and back on track with restoring the C10 truck.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjwq0zrbh.jpg

Speaking of C10 trucks, my friend NevEno (Paul) in Oklahoma found this amusement park coin in the truck he is restoring, under the carpet.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswhtkypg9.jpg

I did a load of shed painting at Katy's place over the weekend and a few other little jobs.

Then back home tonight I carried on with a few little jobs just before dark.

At Katy's place she has two sheds, one is a great outside utility room, used for tumble drier, freezer and storage space aas well as ironing room space. Small but perfect.
Except it had never had a coat of paint or wood preserver since being put up.
So it's bugged me since day one.
Last weekend I made her choose some wood preserver...... colour selected against my advice.

Turned out to be a bit David Dickerson (very fake orange suntan)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2gwjjygr.jpg

So a trip back to the hardware store (Wickes) and paid more than double what I paid for a 5 litre last weekend and get some brown, maybe an improvement?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskhdtgxba.jpg

My arms have been giving me hell the last few weeks, tendinitis and who knows what else goes on inside, but certainly not working as they should.

But today I gave the utility room shed a second coat and started on her garden shed and finished that as well. We also removed all the shed windows (plastic) and covered them in some application type film.

Second Shed needed attention too.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstz3733xe.jpg

Finished.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssyys7eza.jpg

Came home around 7pm and unpacked, fed Harley and gave her some attention, then back to the garage.

Made a finial for the new shed as Ronnie the one lodger insisted it needed one.

Gecko is a nod to my late mum, gone 20 years, but still makes me smile.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfbcpupwn.jpg

Facia done.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvrnwfpvk.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psznefwida.jpg

Next up, shelves and get it all full of excess stuff.

Back to work in the morning, weekend over.

Thanks guys.

It's amazing how two or three hours just disappear after work.

And it does not look like anything was done.

After work I squeezed in some time again.

Helped Mickey next door for a while, guess what, building a shed.

Then I came back to continue painting the new shed one more coat of wood protector

Last night I had filled all the gaps between the planks as well.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnzzfhhpv.jpg

Also painted the rear wall again and the new facias on that side.

As well as the bricks and blocks that I had used to create the dry wall next to the shed.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmb8xhoeu.jpg

Finally tonight I also reflected the small shed, the felt has lasted 10 years and is decidedly tatty now.

Happy with the result.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfpr9borf.jpg

Still have not started to make the shelves for the shed so I can start emptying the garage and driveway.

Grizz1963 05-10-2017 05:21 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Shelves........

I said Shelves.

Seems I cannot even listen to my own advice.

Was going to do shelves tonight after work, ended up flooring the shed instead. One inch planks on one inch spacers.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psynksa4sg.jpg

Mickey came to do quality control and inspect.
He is always great company and often shares great advice and shortcuts.

So being the shed is odd shaped, he stepped on the last angled wedge shaped plank so I could cut it down.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszvmoxsvn.jpg

Does not look like it, but the floor is actually very level.

Really pleased with the outcome.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psugcp2h7b.jpg

I also fitted a twin 5 foot strip light that Mickey had brought around before as well.

Next time I get to the shed will be some time Saturday, hopefully to do the Shelves.

Well, it seems Harley has a new mate.

Dukey was brought back and dropped off on Friday night by Nicola as there are a few issues at her new home and it ultimately affected him.

Harley was completely beside herself with joy when he got delivered, good news.

He has lost a lot of weight since he left 10 months ago, and his mood is clearly low.

I can only hope he settles down and regains his old persona.

This morning at 05.15 he started his day off by singing "The Song of Tuna" so I got up to feed him and Harley, then spent some time out in the garden with them both and a mug of tea.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psozhmv2fv.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxbakaagg.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslirkpmdz.jpg

He even made hImself at home on Katy's lap earlier this afternoon after she had cleared up my garden beds and planted a few plants for me, so hopefully headed in the right direction.

Time for hedges again as well.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrgjh0wan.jpg

So today I came to the shelves at last.

Some planning, three handed working and a decent helping of swearing made for packing up early and Katy making me stop for a nice lunch of prawns, (Shrimp in 'Merica)Waitrose bread and some fruit.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjtxxar32.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psydi50bga.jpg

Possibly one of the silliest things on this shed build..... fitting my Biltong meat processing cabinet on the one gable walland suspending it from the roof. 500x500x900mm

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmuscuzb0.jpg

By 18.15 this was the state of affairs.

Much shelves everywhere, and of course it increases useable surface area.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0ececnsk.jpg

Bootfair in the morning, and then hopefully down to Whitstable or possibly even Canterbury for a break away.

Grizz1963 05-14-2017 04:45 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

New cat in the house, well he was a foster kitten originally, and Nicola took him when she left but of course he came back on Frida.

This morning, interestingly it was again Harley that woke me by 05.00 not Duke. So I fed them by 05.30 and had a mug of tea, surfed the web, then headed out to one of the two bootfairs I usually go to, except, halfway there a lot of rain, and I realised that turning back made more sense, so came home and went into the garage to retrieve some cans of paint that would never be used again and started to paint the Biltong cabinet, and the shelves and supports I fitted yesterday, making it look like a clowns boudoir.

I also dropped some paint and then splashed some more on the floorboards. Watch this space.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmld2k7hx.jpg

While painting the shelves, I put the ladder I had used to get to the top of the cabinet outside.
Those who have noticed the bird houses in the trees saw the one above the shed, it has a family of starlings, same as last year, however, Harley is a hunter killer when it comes to wildlife.

This was this morning, while I was inside the shed, I noticed her on the stepladder.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshi7czljx.jpg

When I got in tonight..........

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuya3vqlu.jpg

Highly unlikely to be this brain surgeon.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pso2vs6ejv.jpg

After Katy got up and showered, I closed shop, shoe reread etc, then we were off to Whitstable for the rest of the day.

Got very lucky, got a parking space at the harbour, then went walking for 2 hrs in town.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrmtutfqo.jpg

Loads of little shops, and then loads of city style shops, unfortunately making their way into this seaside fishing village, and killing of its old character.

Still, there is some humour left in the old shopkeepers. As evidenced by this shop sign.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psuahu5ek8.jpg

Some clever graffiti around town.

This made me chuckle

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbzzsy0bh.jpg

Katy was in heaven too, clear road signs ensured she never gets lost in town.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psq043ebl8.jpg

Once done shopping and walking around town we returned to the car, Katy went off to get us fish and chips which of course we had sitting in the rear of the Prozac-mobile.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfhbkpgki.jpg

A fully functional fishing harbour, this place is always buzzing, and a nice place to spend a day.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrwsqkrlo.jpg

After this we went to look at a Skoda Fun for PedalcarJoe (Ernie) and then took a drive to a small seaside residential village called Seasalter.

Home by 18.00 and concluding a great weekend.

Back to work in the morning.

Thanks for checking in and your comments.
