Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
More parts arrived yesterday. The auto column came in...looks great minus the broken selection tab thanks to UPS. Its a $7 part though, so not worth a claim through the carrier.
The 60-61 SB FS bed trim should be in sometime this week. Also got some 60-61 wide windshield trim and the 60-63 GMC door trim to top it off. So now I just need the 1960 rear cab trim and the cab will be matched to the step side. |

Been doing some more research and talking with the guys on the 348-409 forum to figure out exactly what I want to do with the 348. Found some really cool stuff there. This one would be cool to own. Twin turbo. These were built for marine applications, some ran in reverse and some normal. All were chain drive.
Also found a few other 60-66 trucks there. |

Yes!! Do it! Lol. Then we can start a boosted truck club! Haha

Problem is the engine above is 1 of 12. Last one I saw up for sale was around $20,000.

got a bunch done this weekend. front end pulled and frame cleaned up. got the clutch mounts off and the crossmember out. have to put new cab bushings on soon, so i'll hit the upper rivots then. clutch pedal assembly removed and the manual column removed. found a rear view mirror, sunvisors, side mirrors, cab dome light and mat in my parts room to replace the missing parts. i want to gut and paint this cab soon, but i want all the pieces there. will get pics up tomorrow

Pics from inside the cab. Clutch pedal assembly removed and manual column pulled. Rear view mirror and sunvisor installed....have a pass side also. And the correct door handles in and rubber mat down. Need to order a signal switch for the column and then it'll be ready to install. I'm ready for the red paint to go away.....
Just realized that at some point a 60-61 cluster was installed. |

More parts in...got the deluxe wheel in. Will need to fix to small cracks on the back of the wheel...no biggie as the stepside wheel gave me practice. Chrome looks pretty good....a few pits, but a nice addition to the truck.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Nice wheel !!
I so want to try my hand at reducing the diameter like Astronaut did, but would be scared to cut one of those up !! |

60-61 bed trim should be here soon, wide windshield trim enroute and I have the GMC side window trim to top it off. Just need 1 more back cab trim and it'll match the stepside. |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
My niece says we should hook up an LED in the center section.....when she said this I though of you and your mods.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
That is a very nice looking wheel!
I plan to reduce the diameter of my steering wheel, I have a great magazine article on how to go about it. It would be right up you alley Murph. When I do mine I will employ others more skilled than myself, but it would be a walk in the park for you! |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
I bet with all the members here we could find you a practice wheel.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Dudes !!
I have a spare wheel that I picked up to practice on, and I have it sectioned already, but at the time my skills were too far under par to seriously attempt it. That, and I decided I wanted a 1/2" to 3/4" piece of plywood with the new size diameter cut out to use as a guide for the wheel to ensure I got it as close to perfectly round as possible. We all know how unnerving an out of round steering wheel is.... Man if I had a spare deluxe wheel to play with, you could bet your last penny I would light up the center part !! Maybe to only come on with the horn though......or dimmed and gets brighter with the horn..... Hmmmmmmmm Anyways, here is Astronauts page on his wheel when he reduced it on the Goldilocks build: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...g+wheel&page=9 In my Favorites for my web browser, I have a folder of things to do and that is where I index pages like his. Must Resist New Ideas !!!!!! |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
i remeber his post on the wheel. i like the full size wheel for now. i have a spare center section for the deluxe wheel...and it has the screw on center emblem, which would make the process easier.... alot of the ones ive seen like mine are held on by rivets.

Another thread I have saved on the wheel reduction, similar technique as the magazine article I have, I will scan the article and add it to the above thread. |
