Re: Greg65 build thread
Thanks guys. Last night I started sanding the passenger bedside. The front part has quite a bit of body filler in it. Not what I wanted to see. I will try to post pictures tonight.

The passenger side is finally sanded down to the metal. After sweeping the floor I think there was a gallon of bondo in that one side. To bad they don't make reproduction bedsides. I'm thinking someone with alot better metal working skills than I will be fixing this one.

Here are a few more after primer. Also a picture of the next project in a few years. The po owner changed it from leaf to coil springs. Last week I installed the crossmember for the shock brackets.

Re: Greg65 build thread
Hey Greg. What kind of primer are you using? The truck is still changing everyday.

Thanks Jeff. Right now i'm trying to get the five layers of paint off so i'm using rattle can etching primer. All I want to do is cover the bare metal so it won't rust. Today I worked on the cowl panel ang got it in primer. I'm not happy the way it turned out so i'll have it blasted and put some real primer on it. See what you think.

Re: Greg65 build thread
By the pics it looks pretty good. Is that Dupli-Color etching primer? If it is I was wanting that color in a gallon form to do my whole truck before I flat blacked it. Cause I done my hood with the rattle can, you know mine stays outside well it dont last outside. But I was wanting that green color, and I didn't want to spend 300.00 a gallon. So I went with John Deere Blitz Black for 50.00 a gallon.

After deciding that my truck does not have the right stance we swaped out the front springs today. The truck has an ECE 4-6 suspension kit already installed. The new springs are half an inch shorter so maybe with the front sheetmetal installed it will sit where I want it to. It was really a fun day working on my old truck with my son. I made sure he was well away from me during the disassemby process. His main job was taking the wheels and being the jack man while I held the springs in place. Nothing like spending time with your kids.:metal:

Re: Greg65 build thread
Precious times, he will always remember. :metal: Nice progress!!

Re: Greg65 build thread
Thanks Alan, I will feel much better about the whole project when the body is straight and painted. I can handle pretty much everything except the body work.

Re: Greg65 build thread
Greg65,
That's one handy helper you got there. Looks like he'll be ready for a NASCAR pit crew position in no time...! As Alan said, your son remember these days forever. You are a blessed man. |
Re: Greg65 build thread
Great pics Greg.. I can't wait till I get a garage so Zach and I can work on things together.. What are your plans with the old springs? I want to lower the '72 badly..

Re: Greg65 build thread
Saturday my son and I went to chewin the fat get together and had a good time talking trucks. This was the second year and we had twice as many trucks this year than last year. After we left we went and picked up a serpentine set up for my engine. I will have to add a new p/s pump and alternator. All the brackets were bead blasted and clear coated. I will try to post pictures once I get my computer up and working again.

Ok here are my serpentine brackets and pulleys. I thought it was a pretty good deal for $100.00. After getting my new waterpump painted I got it all installed. My alternator and power steering pump should be in this weekend.

Re: Greg65 build thread
Looking good Greg. That's a deal on the serpentine setup. Gotta love progress.
