SB_in_SC,
How far away from Charleston are you? Let me know when you're in town, maybe we can set a spell and talk shop. I am currently looking at a 69 swb stepside that a guy tore apart to restore and never finished. It's rough, but do-able. The price is right too. I'll try to get pics and post them with some info. Heck, if I buy it, maybe we can start a whole new thread classification! "Project trucks".

In His service,
Wes

I'm about 2 1/2 hours away in Edgefield, near Augusta, GA. I get down that way from time to time. Got a friend who's a CPA down there. I'll give you a holler when I'm down there. Got to get working on the truck again so we'll have something to talk about! Tired of seeing that BB sitting in my shop and not in my truck.

Beer buckets are bucket seats with a middle jumper seat with a lid that you can lift up and its almost like a cooler to hold your beer.

New year, new start. I'm back on the project. Oiled down my big block and gave it a few turns to keep it loose. Started cleaning the intake up and am going to start cleaning up the tins this week. Hope to have the engine assembled by the end of the month. The folks bought me a welder for Christmas, so I hope to order some patch panels and do some body repair after that. It's good to be back!

Hi-per cast into the block makes it 4bolt?

What years?

I have a 1971 2 bolt main in my garage right now, with HI PER cast in...

Still following progress on this one - looks like I'm not the only one who's having real life beat the hell out of my ability to work on my project :)

That doesn't make it a 4 bolt, that just makes it a car engine.
IIRC, all car big blocks, and light duty truck aplications (10 - 30 series) would all say that.

Yeah Shifty, I felt guilty that I hadn't made any progress through the summer and through hunting season, but I do like having a real life. Don't want to get burned out. Really excited about starting back up and will keep the pics coming as I make progress. It is a four bolt main and near as I can tell it is the 325hp version just like in the Chevelles. It is not the 310 hp truck setup, nor is it the 375hp SS/Camaro setup. I am going original resto with it, for the most part. I had it rebuilt with an RV cam instead of the stock cam and I am probably going to install the dealer add-on A/C unit that a friend is giving me from the '67 he used to have. I will only add things that were offered as options for that year, though. I will have the seats covered like a CST I have seen and not the plain jane style like it was. When finished, it will be as it COULD have come from the factory but not exactly as it DID come. I AM SO STOKED!

Re: How rare is a 68 c10 w/396/TH400?

OK, maybe I am crazy, or just don't know what a four bolt block is, but I thought that a four bolt block has four bolts on each main cap, two on each side of the crankshaft. The block shown in the pics has two bolts on each main cap except where the rear seal is. Of course I have only had small blocks too. Could be wrong.

Anyway, Love the truck, keep the updates & photos coming!!!

Re: How rare is a 68 c10 w/396/TH400?

r13, You're probably right. I've been a mechanic all my life, but this is my first solo engine tear down. I thought since the rear main had 4 bolts it makes it a 4 bolt. Not real important to me. I don't plan to be turning it 9 g's or anything. Maybe just the occasional traffic light burn out! I once asked a drag race buddy the difference in 2 bolt and four bolt mains an he replied, "Two more bolts."

Made a little more progress today. Nothing to get too excited about. Didn't feel well, but wanted to do something constructive, so I stripped everything out of the dash. Also found the dash pocket badge in the process. Couldn't get the ignition switch to let loose. Tried to loosen the ring, but it never would loosen all the way up. Is there a trick?

Damn, Some people got all the luck.Wher are you in s.c., I live in Irmo, sure would like to help out in any way I can. Great truck, great story behind it to. Check out teeitup for that grill but hurry somebody else may get them before you do and from what I here from one of my coworkers who has a 67 that grill is extremely hard to find. Teeitup whos on this board has a couple of them. His thread is "parts parts and more parts"

Re: How rare is a 68 c10 w/396/TH400?

Dash pocket=Glove box. Same difference. When I first started with this truck, it had three holes in the glove box door and I found out it should have an emblem or badge on it. When I stripped out the dash last week, I found the badge inside the dash. In the pictures above, you can see I placed it on the door. Notice earlier pics in the thread, no badge.

Hello there! Welcome to the forum! May I ask why you chose to post in this 18 year old thread? Do you have a 68 big block truck as well?
