Great picture with the head mechanic!

Today got started on fitting the motor. This thing is massive. Was able to get the crank pulley over the R&P by 1 1/2" and oil pan in back of R&P about the same. Everything is clear around the frame rails. Motor mounts will need to be relocated back farther. Oil filter will need to relocate. Both oil and trans pan are above bottom of frame rails. Most likely the entire recessed section of firewall will have to be all remade. You can see in the last pic how close the motor is to the top of firewall. Body still needs to come down about 1 1/2" to sit on cab mounts. Overall fit is pretty good to start.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
The head mechanic is awesome! Hopefully he will keep this project on schedule and under budget!
Correction: What is the head mechanic doing with an Eagles shirt on? I will send him a Steelers shirt soon :) |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
No eagles around here. Seatte seahawks. As far as budget and schedule goes if it's under what the wife thinks im good. Thanks for checking in.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
that's going to be quite a high hump! looks like you might even need to modify the seat if you go with a bench..
are you going to use a heater? and is there still room for the wiper motor? I sectioned a 60 el camino, and those were 2 things that fought me a little bit, I wanted at least a generic heater just for the defrost function.. after seeing this I can't wait to get the body on mine , looks good low! |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Major modification through the floor and firewall. Should be able to fit a heater with defrost and floor heat. Going to use factory bench so might have to tunnel through bottom of front bench. We will see for the wiper motor soon. Thanks for checking in.

Well motor is in for now. More clearance is needed at the top of the firewall but sitting on cab mounts.

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Hi,
Your build is looking great! I'm also thinking of a Duramax swap. I have an LLY from a 2WD 2007 Savana. It has the smaller gear box, so it should be less cutting in floor. Any other major issues seen yet? How are you doing with rebuild of the Duramax harness? What motor mounts did you chose from Porterbuilt? I guess they do not fit, but was it even close? I'll keep looking. /Thomas |
