Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
thanks a lot man. looks like it would be to much for me to attempt, but who knows. so if you were to do it again what would you have done differently? not put the 2x2 in the crossmember? maybe notch the crossmember for the R&P? also how much do you think the motor would have to be raised if you left it in the stock location and ran the original pulleys. since im not looking for handling just laying out. thanks again for putting up with me. lol

Work resumes this weekend.
64 gets the 66's old 283. :D http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC_0235.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC_0234.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...s/DSC_0236.jpg |
Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
Doesn't look like much, but I installed 1" spacers in the rear suspension to give it a bit of a rake once the bed is on. Got the bed wood cut to size - now to tack the supports in place and bolt everything together...

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
every time i see this truck i like those wheels even better. some just came up on craigs list down here for 400 bucks. i might pop on em for my awd jimmy project. looks good man!

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
$400 is a steal!!!

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
yes indeed. tires included with less than 2000 miles on them. they should look pretty good on a red and black s15 jimmy.

Closer... wanted to get it driveable before the employee auto show tomorrow - but - there's just too much left to do w/o cutting corners. Today I tackled most of the bed - I don't ever want to fork with another wood bed again. :banghead:

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
TOnight I got the tailights installed and the rear springs removed; the spring I got for the truck are too soft - and I'm beginning to wonder if they're really Jeep Cherokee springs.
I got one of the fenders painter over the weekend to try to faux-tina.... http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...0/DSC_0438.jpg |

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
The plate on the front is the original plate I got for it when I bought it...
These are already registered and waiting to go on: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2...77-PAIR-43.jpg |

Driving and working out the bugs. Got tired of seeing shots where the rocker panel was always missing. :D

So... Nothing fit. :D and I ordered bedrails w/o holes, but they sent me ones pre-punched for the 89" bed. I had to hand-fab a whole lot more by myself and had nobody to help move the bed on & off the truck. I think a stock bed with a kit that fit, or even doing your own wood and buying the rails would be fairly straightforward - if you had a helper and could assemble it off of the truck. :) |
Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
dang that bed sounds like a pain in the butt! hopefully mine will be easier as it should just be all stock. maybe a small small wheel tub. nothin to major. hows she handle in the twisties with that irs?

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10
I'm working up to that. :D
I need to find some vacant asphalt and autocross around a bit to see how it does. It seems to handle firm and flat, but I won't lie - I've got one too many steering u-joints. :( Driver's side exhaust header will get reworked soon to accommodate better shaft angle and lose the extra u-joint. :) |
Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10

Love your build. Sorry if you mentioned it already but what crank pulley are you running?
