I sure like the way center point causes those hubs to stick out.

I'm thinking about building my own joe dog but I have very little info. These are the only photos I have, this one is made by a company by the name of Eight Point. Does anyone have any info or pics of other joe dogs.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete
Thanks guys, I knew you two could scratch up something on these. Not something you see around here, I've heard of jifflox but never seen one except for a couple of youtube vids. I need to learn the pros and cons of each one, and which one requires the least amount of modifications to the tractor. I like the single axle tractors but some days the DOTs are out in force.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete
Factorystock, you mentioned the red 281 in post 135 having center point steering, this is something I know nothing about. Can you ketch me up to speed on this. I went back and looked at the red truck and don't see anything different between it and my blue and white as far as the front axle.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete
Interesting pictures. I like the Single Axle Box truck.
That would make a pretty cool Roll Back. Bill |

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete
Thanks factorystock for the last two posts, both important issues for me. On the axle, I thought the steering was to stiff when I got it but when I greased it up good last month it was alot easier and I will grease it again to see if I missed anything. Also when I took the drums to our local truck parts supplier they laughed at the 16 inch drums and said good luck, also needs new king pin bushings, was advised to find a newer axle. So much for keeping it some what original. Now on the jifflox I like the four pics in stages of hook up, quite the engineering. Do both the joe dog and the jifflox do the same job or are they two very different things. Not having seen either one up close its hard to understand the differences. Who prefers the joe dog and why and vise versa. The local freight companys use converter dollys for doubles but joe dogs and jifflox were never used here that I know of.

Both these Petes have center point axles also. It was popular with big fleets who wanted to keep their drivers and accountants both happy.

Here are the pics of when I was using it right now its stripped for paint. It has a aftermarket fiberglass hood made by clariben from the 70s they made hoods for all the makes.

Re: Bringing home 69 Pete
Very cool.
Always wondered where she went. You could see it east of Kingman that hood always threw me... neat to know its not scrapped. Posted via Mobile Device |
