Almost all done with the left side. Not completely happy with the bead in the wheel lip but I'll work on that later. The entire side is painted with Omni primer then coated with Nasco 2K. Tomorrow I'll spin her around and start working on the right side!

Been making some progress. The drivers rocker is removed and I'm trying to sandblast the rusty inner front door jamb area before paint. Kind of a pain to do inside in the garage. I've set up plastic all around the area and sealed it off with masking tape. Dust is still flying all over the place! The replacement patch panel for in front of the rear wheel opening is in and primed!

I hate sandblasting! With all the plastic taped in place and two exhaust fans (one with a furnace filter on it) and there is very little fine dust in the garage.

Re: NJ Suburban
Looking good man! Did you have any rust in the rear wheel arches? From what I know that area seems like it would be hard to repair. I thought someone took a truck 8' bed side and made it work.

They make a patch panel. Only problem is that the bead doesn't quite match the original. Paul |
Re: NJ Suburban
Was thinking of starting a build thread with my burban. However both 1/4s are junk and trying to decide if it's worth the effort to repair it or change out the body.

I'm trying to fit the left lower panel and having trouble. Anyone else done this?
It fits fine in the wheel arch and along the bottom but the long part along the top is bowed way out! Paul |
Re: NJ Suburban
Man, your really doing great considering what's involved with replacing 1/4s on a burban! Keep up the great work.

Re: NJ Suburban
What happens when you unclamp the lower pinch weld clamps? Does it pull back where it should be?

This is the bend I am talking about. If it is over bent and you clamp it, it will bow the top out. If you unclamp it and the top comes back in to where it should be, I would try gently massaging the lower bend, but it needs to be done before you start welding. It may take numerous tries. Richard |
