Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Today was a great day for me.
I spent about 5 hours over at mate Martins place today. We removed his cab, which has set me thinking that I should maybe remove mine as well, to get better access to the underside of the chassis. On removing the cab, he found a lot more rust, terrible historic patches an a load of sand inside the chassis outriggers. I will post up the pics to tell the story of getting the "special tool" in and moving the cab away. Final inspection before removing the last two chassis mounting bolts. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf80fb9a8.jpg One broke off, despite all preparation. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psde9de650.jpg Lifting jig fitted to three ton hoist. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps74496cfc.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3c23c54a.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6b0699a5.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfb23e31e.jpg AND THIS IS HOW IT WAS DONE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxcu...lt8TvG8KEwT5Kg IMPRESSIVE STUFF, AND RESULT. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps03c4cf7b.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0815d072.jpg Next up we parked the cab out the way, the trolley needs another 24 inches of height, which will happen later. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps356c9480.jpg Farmer Brown........ http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfa112079.jpg Lastly Martin removed the welded on front bumper and the truck was put back into its tight spot. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfb63875c.jpg That was it for this weekend. As we go on working together, I am learning more and more. |

Copied and pasted as you are benefitting too.....
I hope you got home in one piece after destroying your work van.....:devil::devil::devil::mm: An envelope landed from Spokane Valley, Washington today. Contents: Used light sockets for the trucks side lights on both my and Martin's trucks, thanks to Markeb01 http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse297955b.jpg Even though the truck passed its MOT with the repaired lights over the weekend, I will replace them with new once the new wiring harness gets fitted and the body is all done. Getting closer to that point where I cannot procrastinate on the teardown any more. Marathon session planned for tomorrow evening in the garage, again to create more working space. Using Martin's electrickery knowlege to help me sort out my Sachs Madass that needs to be moved on as well to make space and generate some money toward my QTP valves. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...x/P1010326.jpg |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well today's job was to get the bed off. So after stripping of the tail board and the floor I stripped the sides off
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps9da03d94.jpg And yes there was more yellow http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps87724354.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps65e3ec7f.jpg As you can see one of the previous owners had painted everything yellow up to the back of the cab and just stopped http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps87615f20.jpg The next job to address was the right engine mount it was the wrong one and had been welded to the chassis so I cut it off and bolted on the one I had got from a guy 10 miles from my home through eBay http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps66ab8311.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf657f2c4.jpg I then thought I would try the petrol (gas) tank I had made to my dimensions over here as getting one from the USA would have been to expensive http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5631ac50.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psdf2b5da3.jpg The next job will be to try in the engine and box in. Then I can start stripping down chassis ready for paint . |

PO must've had a surplus of yellow...:haha: |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Amazing progress the last few weeks mate.
Stopping by tonight after work I realized just how much pain lies ahead of me. I think many people do not realize you are out of the house by 07.00 and often in bloody late from work, after which you and Amanda have to walk the dogs etc. This morning early, before going off to work, I popped into the scrap yard to check out the chassis and wagon Mickey had told me about. I guess it looked a bit weird, me arriving in a suit, and him in a bright green health and safety suit. I approved of the chassis and wagon. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6ce91011.jpg Tonight after work, I went home and grabbed the truck and went down to fetch my treasures. Can you say Junk Yard Dog ?? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscfe445fe.jpg Loaded, with Mickey standing by. Then off to drop the wagon at Martins place as he will be using the wagon for his chassis. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf88ac9ce.jpg Once at Martins we removed the sides and he too it in, he had been at home today, dismantling his truck even further. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps43fc8d89.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfc9ca859.jpg Thats all for today. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
I started mocking up my engine ready for the install will need to sort out engine mounts as it's a 307 from a Chevy caprice with a th350
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6a126f8c.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psa37b74d1.jpg Hi I got a delivery today one box arrived from the states. It had my cab floor supports . The inner and outer rockers are to follow http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps21c7407c.jpg And even better I got my tickets for my holiday ( vacation) to Florida so big cases at the ready for a shopping list , as I am going to be in Florida in October and the NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals in Tampa are on . Has any body been and is there many stalls to get parts ? Martin |

I am quite jealous of you attending these shows.
Nicola suggested you find someone from the forums who is going, and attach yourself to the underside of their truck on the entry. Maybe a bit like this....... like an illegal alien :mm::mm::mm::mm: http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0b11d2f1.jpg |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Good luck on your vacation and hunting trip! Incredible amount of progress considering the restricted time and space available to work in. Very impressive!

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I got my inner and outer rocker panels today . Just waiting to hear back from the Sandblasters on a cost for the cab. Once that has been done I can get on with the welding .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
We have been looking at and discussing various ways to get Martins cab sand/media blasted. Mostly the prices were steep, so I said I would build a cabinet we can share. My compressor goes into the mix and Martin said he would buy the resevoir pot.
Posted a load of threads (same one copied and pasted) on some of the forums I go onto and got varied responses. Great response here on this board too. Link below..... TAKE A LOOK. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=634308 I HAVE ALSO DECIDED TO POST THE LINKS TO THE SAME THREAD ON OTHER FORUMS. AS A RESOURCE TO ALL OF US. Shows how different people approach the same problem. Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Aaaaarghh !!!
Fitting the 307 engine from a caprice which is an olds v8 in the truck is turning out to be a bit of a headache See thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=638072 Any advice welcome |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well Rian came over to give me a hand today . I had already managed to get the engine in place but had a bit of a dilemma . The engine in the forward position missed the cab but the headers hit the wishbone and touched the chassis . With the engine in the rear position it missed the headers but it would mean cutting the bulkhead . Not wanting to cut the bulkhead the headers were going to have to be cut . The look on Rian's face when I got out the grinder was priceless . After cutting one pipe on each header and fitting them back on the engine we tried it in and it fitted . So we dummied up the pipes with cardboard tube ready to replace them with steel once a template was made .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Bloody right I was shocked at you cutting up perfectly, almost new headers.
But I now understand (well, almost) Thanks for coming over tonight to help get the Mazda ready for its yearly MOT roadworthy test. Looking forward to your new headers. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I spent a couple of hours stripping the paint of my front grill, only to find a pretty good ally one under all that paint . I will have to dress up a couple of the dents that have just been filled instead of being repaired
As my grill was http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pse2bffc60.jpg After stripping off the paint http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psfc156251.jpg |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well as usual you make plans to do something and it all goes to pot . We took our dogs to the woods on Friday night and unknown to us one of our staffs Harry punctured the inside of his mouth . So getting up Saturday morning to find Harry's face all swollen meant no truck time but a trip to the vet , we then find out from the vet it's an Abscess and will need an operation to drain it . So about $800 and problem solved . The good news is he is ok just a big open wound on his neck to let it drain .
So Sunday morning up early to attach the engine mounts to the crossmember the first thing was to measure the distance between the the two mounts bolted to the engine . So I bolted some studding through the mounts to get the distance between the two points http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5907d6d4.jpg I then got some flat bar steel and drilled out the 15 inch centres to keep them straight . I had already marked the crossmember but needed to keep the in place for drilling the crossmember http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps4b3f0cab.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps28c5fff3.jpg The next thing will be to refit the engine and fabricate a gearbox mount |
